		🖌 jihyun has a lot to think about already, and despite his charm, he doesn't put a lot of his mental power into being nice or approachable. in fact, it would be just fine by him if most people, excluding those he likes, stayed away from him. he doesn't ever mean to be rude, he is a very nice person, he just doesn't always have the brain power to think what he says through. his perfectionism just makes this worse, he sees others flaws just as easily as he sees his own, and whilst normally he is able to stop himself from mentioning those flaws sometimes, when he is extra tired, stressed or mentally preoccupied, he lets them slip.

BACKGROUND
	🖌 jihyun was born on august 21st 1998, the second child of five born to Kang Jongmin and Guan Meizhen. he doesn't remember much of his early life and there aren't many photos or videos of it but what he does remember was happy. he remembers the birth of his jihoon, jihyun had been up late that night because he had an earache and couldn't sleep when suddenly his mother started groaning in pain. his father, quickly recognizing what this was, called the next door neighbors over and rushed her to the hospital. he hadn't been allowed to hold jihoon, he himself was only three and a bit, but he had been allowed to lay down next to him. he spent the night next to jihoon's cot staring at the little baby in awe. he remembers his fourth birthday party, he dressed up like a bee using a costume jieun had made for him in art class and ran around the living room making obnoxious buzzing noises.
	🖌 when jihyun was six the family ran into some more difficult financial troubles, meizhen had been laid off at her job, now their primary income was gone and they had another baby on the way. jihyun didn't understand the concept of money or why this was bad, he just heard the part about mommy being home more often - he was excited. it wasn't until he heard his parents crying through the paper thin walls of the house that he understood. he started saving his lunch money and sneaking it back into his parents pockets when they weren't looking, he didn't want them to be so stressed anymore. his father took on a second job as a taxi driver so his mother could stay home through her pregnancy and take care of the kids. they weren't rich but they got by.
	🖌 after jisun was born things changed. meizhen started working again and so now the kids were left with their elderly neighbor after school, and all day for baby jisun. ms. lim was nice, she always gave them a hard candy after they finished their homework, but she wasn't their parents. jieun was just ten now and so she started taking care of her family as best she could, she was only ten though. once again they got by.
	🖌 their parents rejoiced the day jieun turned 14. they could leave the kids alone. by this time jihyun had stepped up as well, he was helping jihoon with his homework and he was helping to teach little jisun to read and write. jieun did the cooking, she always liked it - jihyun could never understand that, he hated cooking, but he loved eating, especially jieun's food. they managed, it was hard on all of the family but they pulled through with smiles. it wasn't long after jihyun's 11th birthday that they got the news that meizhen was pregnant again.
	🖌 jihyun adored jiwon. this was the first time he was actually old enough to help take care of the baby and he loved it. he felt so mature and helpful when he saw the relief in his fathers eyes when he could go take a nap or in his mothers when she could get to work on time. jieun had gotten her first job now so jihyun shouldered more of the burden of taking care of the family. everyday they would go to ms.lims house and jihyun would help the boys with their homework until jieun got back from work and then they would go home and cook dinner for when their parents arrived. it wasn't easy but they didn't have another choice.
	🖌 despite all his responsibilities outside of school jihyun excelled in his classes, school was a time for him to really enjoy his freedom and so he worked extra hard at it. he wanted to get a good paying job in the future to help his family. that all changed when he took his first proper art class. he can still remember the shitty paints that were already separating in the pots and the thin printer paper they were given to paint on. he loved art class the most, the freedom of expression and the break from structure appealed to him in a way nothing else had.
	🖌 jihyun never really thought about the possibility of a career in art until his first year of high-school. his art teacher pulled him aside after class and had a serious talk with him. 'with your grades and your talent you could get into any school in the country' she had said, he was sure she was lying but he lay awake at night thinking about it. art school. a life of painting. it sounded like a dream, so removed from reality.
	🖌 another thing that happened in his first year of high-school was that he picked up volleyball ( or whatever sport he plays in the 'clubs' section ) he learnt a valuable lesson through the sport, how to control his anxieties. whenever he felt restless or worried he would move and it would work, it wouldn't get rid of his anxiety but it would soothe him, much like rocking a baby. with this newfound calm he threw himself into his studies even more, he was going to get a scholarship to somewhere - he needed a scholarship.
	🖌 it wasn't until he got his offer of a scholarship from the visual arts college that he even knew his parents had applied for him. he was shocked. as much as he wanted to study art and become a painter or an art teacher or anything in the field, he didn't dare let himself dream because he knew he had a duty to his family first. he was prepared to study medicine or business or law but his parents had different plans. they wanted their son to be happy and fulfilled in his life and they knew he wasn't going to get that through anything other than art. he was given a full-ride scholarship so it wouldn't cost them much at all, just food bills. he was ecstatic.
	🖌 jihyun would have never anticipated how much he missed his family, or how much he felt like an impostor in the school. everyone had artistic accolades and awards and he had nothing but a letter from a small town art teacher. he wasn't there because he was good at art, because he had a talent that needed to be nurtured, he was there because he was smart. this is where his inferiority complex and impostor syndrome began.

	🖌 jihyun is very highly ranked, he has to be to maintain his scholarship funding. he is probably in the top 5-10 students in the department dependent on how many there are. he works really hard to prove himself as having artistic value to the school, not just academic value.

CLUB(S)
	🖌 volleyball - his height and athleticism really pay off in this sport, he loves it as well which helps. he doesn't have time for any other clubs ( if the school doesn't have a volleyball club/team then swimming, baseball, basketball, lacrosse or soccer would be good instead )

HOW DID THEY WIN THEIR CONTEST
	🖌 Jihyun painted a collection of artworks he called 'household gods'. the works were a collection of paintings depicting his family members as different gods and goddesses, there were six works in total, one for each member of his family. His mother was depicted as frigg, norse goddess of love, marriage, fertility and motherhood with the ability to see the future, he felt this fit his mother as she puts her family before anything and always seems to know what they are going to do or need or say before they do. His father was depicted as vishnu, the hindu deity of protection and balance, he chose this for his father as jongmin is a man of principals, he is incredibly moral and honest and he cares for his family greatly, he would sooner die than see harm come to them. his older sister was depicted as Sekhmet, the ancient egyptian goddess of war and healing, he felt this odd combination of powers fit with jieun's role as older sister, both the protector and the warrior. His brother jihoon was depicted as the roman god Janus, the god of transitions, gates, duality and time, he felt this fit jihoon especially because of the major transition he is in, the boy is going through puberty and becoming an adult, he is a walking duality with mood-swings and the maturity of both a 12 year old and a 20 year old. he depicted his brother jisun as apollo, god of poetry, music and the sun ( among many other things ), jisun can talk his way out of anything, incredibly smart, eloquent and talented in the arts - he takes after his older brother. he depicted his youngest brother as gungsang, the korean sun god, he depicted jiwon this way because he is a mood-maker in the family, always brightening everyone's day.

LIKES
	🖌 painting - jihyun discovered painting his first year of high-school and he fell in love with it. he was free from the structures of his day-to-day life and he could express whatever he was feeling without fear of judgement. although that 'without fear of judgement' has gone away a bit he still finds solace in his art.
	🖌 winning - as one with many siblings who was raised on board games he is incredibly competitive, he loves to win and doesn't back down from a fight. it is one of his biggest character flaws.
	🖌 cup ramen - his holy grail. cup ramen has seen him through some of the toughest points in his life and the harshest exam seasons. it also just so happens to be the only thing he can afford.
	🖌 comfy clothes - jihyun has never been one for dressing up or fashion over function. he is a rather practical person and wants his things to serve a purpose and be useful, sweat pants and t-shirts are practical, especially when you are often covered in paint at the end of the day like jihyun.
	🖌 coffee - jihyun runs on caffeine, a lot of caffeine. he doesn't get much sleep between studying, working on his art and actually working so he makes up the difference with gross instant coffee, he has kind of developed a taste for it.
	🖌 his family - jihyun is incredibly family oriented. he loves his parents and siblings and puts them first in almost every way. in fact, his mother and father had to push him to accept the scholarship to the school as he was worried it was too far away and that they needed him working to get some extra income.
	🖌 coca-cola - coca-cola is the superior soft drink. jihyun drinks more than could be deemed healthy but he has yet to encounter any adverse reactions.
	🖌 board games - every friday night jihyun's family had a board games night, his parents always made sure that they had friday nights off no matter what. jihyun's best memories were made sat at the dining table playing games.
	🖌 plants - he likes taking care of things and watching them grow and flourish. he is worryingly attached to his plants and likes to give them disturbingly human names.
	🖌 nighttime - as much as jihyun hates being alone and silence, he also craved them living with six other people. nighttime was the only time when the sounds of the house settled down and he was able to hear himself think.

DISLIKES;
	🖌 silence - his house was never silent, at night it was quiet but there was always the breathing of jihoon and jieun in the other beds or the creak of the windows and the squeak of door hinges. silence unnerves him now, it is one thing he likes about seoul - the constant noise.
	🖌 being alone - much like with silence, he was never alone in andong, he was either at school or at home or walking between the two. all of which involved at least one other person. now he finds being alone scaring and actively seeks out company if he is left to his own devices. he doesn't necessarily want to have a long talk about the nature of the universe - although he does love a good deep conversation - he really just wants to hear someone breathing or know they are there.
	🖌 losing - he is a competitive brat who doesn't like to lose. despite the fact that he often lost at the board games he played with his family he still hasn't mastered the art of losing gracefully.
	🖌 spiders - spiders creep jihyun out. they have way too many legs and eyes and they move wayyy too quickly. he just doesn't like them.
	🖌 nail biting - this is jihyun's biggest pet peeve. he hates the sound of nail-biting he hates seeing it and it never fails to make him shudder in disgust and or horror.
	🖌 fruit flavored candies - don't ruin his candies with fruit thanks.
	🖌 shellfish - the devils food. horrible, terrible, no good, very bad. also majorly allergic but that's besides the point.
	🖌 horoscopes - his mother and father would read their daily horoscopes, maybe they found peace in letting go of a bit of their control and just trusting in some cosmic power to guide them, but jihyun never bought into them. he saw how little they did to actually help his parents and his family so he has a strong distaste for them now.

TRIVIA;
	🖌 jihyun is a flirty drunk, not a smooth flirty like you would expect from someone as charming as him, no, he is an extremely cheesy flirt. he uses bad pickup lines and exaggerated looks to flirt with anyone in his vicinity
	🖌 sings old ballads in the shower
	🖌 jihyun is very smart but he is also somehow the dumbest person you have ever met. he forgets to add water to cook pasta and once asked if coconut milk was dairy free.
	🖌 he goes for runs in the mornings when he is feeling stressed or is thinking about something.
	🖌 jihyun has a fear of dentists. when he was a young boy his neighbor's( not ms. lim ) teeth were rotting so the dentist had to pull them out, he was terrified since then that they were going to pull his teeth out as well.
	🖌 his go to 'style' ( if you can even call it that ) is sweatpants and a sweatshirt or, if you're lucky, a nice fitting t-shirt. he might throw on a jacket or for very special occasions a pair of jeans but that's about it. he wears the same pair of sneakers everyday and they are very ratty and complete covered in paint splatters but they don't have holes so he doesn't see the need to buy new ones.
	🖌 jihyun works at a convenience store near the school 8 hours a week - he read a psychological study about how students who work 4-8 hours a week actually do better overall in class because they have menial tasks to do at work that allow for higher level thinking. also, he really needs the money.

	🖌 jihyun is very passionate about the correct ranking of convenience store ramen brands, a passion his roommate junyoung shares.
	🖌 he breaks charging cords really easily, he has no clue how but one day they just stop working. he takes extra good care of them because charging cords are way too expensive.
	🖌 jihyun works best when he is writing with pen and paper instead of on a computer and if he is writing on a computer he needs the big, clanky keys instead of the little, discreet ones.
	🖌 he survives on a diet of instant ramen, instant coffee and coca-cola.
	🖌 jihyun goes back home when he can, he gets very homesick in the big city and misses his family dearly. they have a family call on friday nights before board games, he tells them about his week and they recount their week back to him. those are calls are one of the highlights of his week.
	🖌 he is lactose intolerant and still insists on putting cheese in his ramen - intestinal health be damned ! ( although based on his steady diet of carbonated sugar water, caffeinated demon water and spicy noodle water his intestinal health is probably not very good anyway )
	🖌 jihyun and his friend group ( zhennan, joohyun and junyoung ) play boardgames together on friday nights ( except during exam season )
	🖌 jihyun's family are very big on physical affection so he really likes skinship and is often hanging off of one of his friends or leaning on another.

HOBBIES + INTERESTS;
	🖌 learning - jihyun is blessed with a thirst for knowledge. he adores learning new things and is incredibly curious. one of his favorite things to do is look up random and completely useless facts.
	🖌 sports - jihyun gets restless easily and finds sports, and any other physical activity, a really good way to relieve his stress and excess energy. it was also the only way he really got time completely to himself in a house with seven people.
	🖌 food - he can't afford to eat much other than instant noodles and instant coffee but he really is a foodie at heart, or maybe he just has a huge sweet tooth and loves fried chicken, either way he loves eating.
	🖌 painting - obviously, jihyun loves painting - he is going to school for it after all. his favorite styles to paint are impressionism and abstract but he is best at realism. he enjoys painting abstract pieces but struggles to keep them actually 'abstract'.
	🖌 botany - he loves plants and finds it relaxing to care for them, junyoung insists it's jihyun's way of coping with no longer having his younger siblings to take care of - basically he is an empty nester at age 20 and without children. he had pretty much replaced his little brothers with plants.

	🖌 jihyun would want to meet in a public space, neutral turf. he would be nervous and excited to meet them and discuss their plans. ji would arrive really early and sit there waiting because that is just who he is as a person. they would get along really well but probably wouldn't be that productive, instead opting to get to know each other more instead.

BEHAVIOUR AROUND EACH OTHER;
ーYOUR SLOT
	🖌 beginning - jihyun is really comfortable around his partner, there is something about them that he finds disarming. he is really sweet to them, though he doesn't notice, and flirts a bit, he doesn't notice that either. jihyun is open with his physical affection for his partner, something they are willing to return. he invites him to game night - a big thing for jihyun, he has never invited anyone who was not a part of their friend circle already to game night. the first thing he does in the morning is check to see if they texted him and send them a good morning text if they hadn't. he is whipped.
	🖌 middle - this is when jihyun starts to realize his feelings for his partner, and in true jihyun fashion, starts to pull away. he is more distant with them and stops messaging them first about anything other than the project. he avoids skinship now when he eagerly welcomed and even initiated it before. they manage to overcome this hurdle and start dating. and then they are back to normal except with more kissing and lovey-doveyness.
	🖌 end - episode 2 of 'jihyun screws everything up™'. jihyun's stress is at an alltime high, his final exams are coming up, he and his partner don't get to see each other much and he is just feeling really isolated and unworthy. this all culminates in the big fight™ between him and his partner, they finally address the elephant in the room - jihyun's inferiority complex with school and his feelings of incompetence. the fight ends in tears and a break up ( the partner breaks them up because he can't watch jihyun do this to himself )  they make up, kind of, and are back to their normal lovey-dovey, sweet selves except they aren't together. are they? eventually they get back together.

ーYOUR PARTNER
	🖌 beginning - the partner is very kind to jihyun, he tells bad jokes that never fail to make ji laugh and he listens to jihyun's ramblings about art history or swedish fishing laws. he is more than willing to return jihyun's skinship and even flirts with him. he happily goes along with anything jihyun asks of him and sings the boy to sleep over the phone some nights when ji really can't get to sleep - everyone is pretty certain they're dating at this point even though they aren't.
	🖌 middle - they don't understand why jihyun is pulling away and worry that maybe they did something wrong. they make their romantic intent as obvious as possible, without actually saying they like him, thinking that maybe he is worried that they don't like him back. they try their best to talk to him whenever they can but he is really trying to avoid them. eventually they basically corner him in his dorm room and pour their heart out. and then they are back to normal except with more kissing and lovey-doveyness.
	🖌 end - jihyun starts pulling away again. this time they are to blame a bit as well, they have been really busy with stray kids and haven't been able to spend as much time as they want with him. they plan some nice date thing for the two of them and then they have the big fight™. after the fight they are rather cold with jihyun, not rude just as clinical and professional as possible. then they make up with jihyun and are back to normal again, except they aren't together again. they eventually get back together after a lot of awkward "meet jihyun he's my ... " and "this is my ... jihyun?" 's.

ーCOFFEE MACHINE
	🖌 he didn't know coffee machine before the competition. jihyun understands coffee machine. he understands wanting art with all your heart but not quite being able to get there, although ji is lucky and his family gave him the final push. they don't really talk much but when they do it tends to be frustrated rants, they tend to turn to each other when they are irritated or frustrated 8/10
ーFRENCH BERET
	🖌 jihyun had met french beret a couple of times through 'exchanges of services' basically the painting students acting for the film students and the film students modelling for the painting students. he adores french beret. jihyun admires her passion, her drive and her confidence and he loves her oddball nature. they get along really well despite their differences. they would probably, surprisingly, talk a lot about things that aren't school and art, like games or k-pop groups or anything else. she would fit in the best with jihyun's exsisting circle of friends 10/10

	🖌 he knew of her more than actually knowing her. he likes her well enough although he really struggles with her passive aggressiveness, he doesn't read people well and so gets a lot of her signals confused. the constant meme and vine references remind him of his little brother jisun which he appreciates. 7/10
