  1. In my last echo fighter document, I said that Sonic had a variety of options to go for when it came to echo fighters. And here I’m going to talk about one of if not the most requested echo fighter, Shadow the Hedgehog. Debuting in Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow has become a hit among fans and has been clamored for in Super Smash Brothers since Brawl. It is true that he has enough to make him (at least what Smash considers to be) an entirely new character, I feel that tapping into some forgotten custom moves and reworking them to aesthetically fit with Shadow would be a good middle ground between making him a Sonic clone and making him an entirely new fighter.

  3.
  4. Entrance animation:
  5. Shadow teleports in.
  6.
  7. Jab:
  8. Same as Sonics.
  9.
  10. Dash Attack:
  11. Same as Sonics.
  12.

  15.
  16. Down Tilt:
  17. Same as Sonics.
  18.
  19. Up Tilt:
  20. Same as Sonics.
  21.
  22. Up Air:
  23. Same as Sonics.
  24.
  25. Neutral Air:
  26. The same as Nesses. Based off one of his moves in Sonic Battle.
  27.
  28. Forward Air:
  29. Same as Sonics.
  30.
  31. Back Air:
  32. Same as Sonics.
  33.
  34. Down Air:
  35. Same as Sonics.
  36.
  37. Forward Smash:
  38. Same as Mewtwos.
  39.
  40. Down Smash:
  41. Same as Mewtwos.
  42.
  43. Up Smash:
  44. Same as Mewtwos.
  45.
  46. Neutral Special: Homing attack.
  47. The same as Sonics in every way. Shadow has had the homing attack since his introduction and is one of his staple abilities, so I don’t feel the need to replace it.
  48.
  49. Down Special: Chaos Blast
  50. Shadow holds a Chaos Emerald, and charges up for a second. When that second is up, Shadow releases a large explosion around him that does great damage to the opponent, some recoil damage to Shadow, and does large shield damage. It’s not as large as a full Magic Burst, but a large explosion nonetheless. Unlike magic burst, it’s a singular hitbox that doesn’t last very long, so opponents can either spotdodge, air dodge, or roll in order to avoid it. You also are vulnerable during the charge up, so opponents can just hit/grab you to disrupt the move. Functionally this move is based off Jigglypuffs Wakie Wakie custom move from Smash 4, and is visually based off the Chaos Blast attack from Shadow the Hedgehog.
  51.
  52. Side Special: Black Tornado.
  53. Shadow circles around in place, causing a strong gust of wind that flings both Shadow and the opponent up in the air. When used in midair Shadow can get a little bit of a vertical boost, about as much as Luigi’s Down Special, though you will be able to act out of it sooner in midair. Functionally this move is based off Donkey Kongs Kong Cyclone custom move from Smash 4, though minus the super armor. Visually it is based off the black tornado move Shadow can preform in Sonic Heroes.
  54.
  55.
  56. Up Special: Chaos teleport.
  57. Shadow teleports in the general direction the player is holding the control stick, though it’s always aimed at least somewhat upwards. If you teleport directly by an opponent, they get meteor smashed, though unlike Sonics Up Special, it does leave you in free fall and very venerable. This is functionally an upgraded version of Zelda’s Farore’s Windfall Custom Move from Smash 4, and is visually based off the many teleports Shadow has preformed in the Sonic series. The reason I went with Farore’s Windfall is to give Shadow a recovery that not only can be aimed vertically, but can also be used as an attack unlike Sonics.
  58.
  59. Grab:
  60. Same as Sonics.
  61.
  62. Pummel:
  63. Same as Sonics.
  64.
  65. Forward Throw:
  66. Same as Sonics.
  67.
  68. Back Throw:
  69. Same as Sonics.
  70.
  71. Up Throw:
  72. Same as Sonics.
  73.
  74. Down Throw:
  75. Same as Sonics.
  76.
  77. Final Smash:
  78. Shadow lunges forwards, and anyone caught by him transitions into a Short cutscene where Shadow fires the ARC cannon to the moon, damaging the opponent similar to King K Rools Final Smash. This is based off the famous cutscene from Sonic Adventure 2 where Eggman fires the ARCs cannon at the moon, causing it to break partially.
  79.
  80. Taunt 1:
  81. Shadow powers up like Mewtwo or Hero.
  82.
  83. Taunt 2:
  84. Shadow spins around and crosses his arms, similar to one of Mewtwos taunts.
  85.
  86. Taunt 3:
  87. Shadow adjusts the rings on his wrists.
  88.
  89. Victory Theme:
  90. Same as Sonics.
  91.
  92. Victory Animation 1:
  93. Shadow spins around before crossing his arms, and then says “That wasn’t so hard.”. The animation is a reference to Shadows level clear animation from Sonic Adventure 2, and the line of dialogue is a reference to when Shadow gets a C rank in a stage in Sonic Adventure 2.
  94.
  95. Victory Animation 2:
  96. Shadow jumps in the air, slides in place, and then crosses his arms and says “Not even a challenge.”. The animation is a reference to Shadows level clear animation from Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, and the dialogue is a reference to when Shadow gets an A rank in Sonic the Hedgehog 2006.
  97.
  98. Victory Animation 3:
  99. This victory animation is a 1-1 remake of Team Darks level clear animation from Sonic Heroes, with Shadow saying “Just average.”. The dialogue is a reference to Shadows line when getting a C rank as him in Sonic Heroes.

  101. Alternate Costumes:
  102. 1-Default Normal-Shadows default appearance.
  103.
  104. 2-Default Android-For Shadow, I’ve decided to go down a route similar to Ike or Inkling. Shadow has a completely separate design for half of his alternate colors, that being the metallic Shadow Android from Shadow the Hedgehogs multiplayer mode. In this case, the default androids colors are blue.
  105.
  106. 3-Yellow Normal-The red parts of Shadows body turn yellow. This is a reference to one of the more organic looking Shadow androids from Shadow the Hedgehogs multiplayer mode.
  107.
  108. 4-Green Android-The blue parts turn lime green. This is a reference to one of the other Shadow Androids from Shadow the Hedgehogs multiplayer mode.
  109.
  110. 5-White Normal-Shadows black fur turns white, his red fur turns pink, and his white fur turns dark purple. This is a reference to Rouge the Bat, one of the primary members of Team Dark.
  111.
  112. 6-Purple Android-The blue parts turn purplish pink. This is a reference to one of the other Shadow Androids from Shadow the Hedgehogs multiplayer mode.
  113.
  114. 7-Super Normal-The black fur turns yellow. This is a simple reference to Super Shadow.
  115.
  116. 8-Orange Android-The blue parts turn orange. This is a reference to one of the other Shadow Androids from Shadow the Hedgehogs multiplayer mode.
  117.
  118. 9-Purple Normal-The black fur turns purple, and the red fur turns yellow. This is a reference to Espio the Cameleion, one of the 4 speed type characters from Sonic Heroes.
  119.
  120. 10-Omega Android-The silver parts turn red, the blue parts turn yellow, and everything else turns black. This is a reference to E-123 Omega, one of the primary members of team dark.
  121.
  122. 11-Blue Normal-The black fur turns blue, the eyes turn green, and the red fur turns white. This is a simple reference to Sonics default color scheme.
  123.
  124. 12-Beetle Android-The silver parts turn grey, the blue parts turn a faded blue, and the white parts turn yellow. This is a reference to the Gun Beetle, a robotic enemy introduced in Sonic Adventure 2.
