  1. 00:44:56: <Nayrz> plumberjack you here?
  2. 00:45:59: <Plumberjack> yup
  3. 00:46:21: <Nayrz> its about the triple spike thing you mentioned, thought it was easier than a forum post
  4. 00:46:27: <Nayrz> is it something that should always be avoided?
  5. 00:46:47: <Nayrz> many players use 248 hp regardless but a triple spike layer isnt exactly uncommon in ubers
  6. 00:47:02: <Nayrz> well, it is uncommon but unheard of
  7. 00:47:03: <Nayrz> i mean
  8. 00:47:13: <Nayrz> NOT unheard of*
  9. 00:47:15: <Nayrz> zzz
  10. 00:47:57: <Plumberjack> haha
  11. 00:48:08: <Plumberjack> i'm honestly not super sure, but there are two things that i do know
  12. 00:48:36: <Plumberjack> -many, many, many people use 248 hp because they erroneously think odd hp = minimize passive damage
  13. 00:48:48: <Plumberjack> -i have literally never seen an analysis EV for a triple spike layer
  14. 00:49:13: <Plumberjack> which leads me to think that it's something that's generally not taken into account because it (from what i'm gathering then) is not worth it
  15. 00:49:37: <Nayrz> its a usable excuse for it at least
  16. 00:49:38: <Nayrz> hehe
  17. 00:49:50: <Nayrz> i'll check the other arceus analyses to see if its passed by on any of them
  18. 00:50:26: <Nayrz> dragceus has 248 hp
  19. 00:50:36: <Nayrz> eleceus also has it
  20. 00:50:37: <Plumberjack> haha yeah, though from what i've seen, the standard way to go at it is avoid divisible by 8 (for burn damage / neutral SR damage), avoid divisible by 10 (LO number), and avoid divisible by 4 or 2 for SR weak mons
  21. 00:51:04: <Nayrz> fairyceus also has 248 hp
  22. 00:51:16: <Nayrz> darkceus has 252 though
  23. 00:51:27: <Nayrz> its a little inconsistent
  24. 00:52:05: <Nayrz> water + grass + psychic have 252
  25. 00:52:18: <Plumberjack> yeah... if you want my gut feeling, i think it's more likely they have 248 because "odd hp number" than "triple spike layer"
  26. 00:52:25: <Nayrz> steel has 252, poison has 248
  27. 00:52:39: <Nayrz> yeah id probably agree there because nobody as actually mentioned
  28. 00:52:44: <Nayrz> "triple spike layer"
  29. 00:52:49: <Nayrz> in set details
  30. 00:52:52: <Nayrz> as far as i see
  31. 00:53:04: <Nayrz> doesnt sr + 1 spike layer also fall under this
  32. 00:53:13: <Plumberjack> yeah, and especially if there's also a significant number that has 252, then i reckon it's that super common oversight
  33. 00:53:14: <Nayrz> should be 25% for neutral sr mons right?
  34. 00:53:14: <Plumberjack> uh idts
  35. 00:53:24: <Plumberjack> those should be calculated as twice 12,5%
  36. 00:53:28: <Plumberjack> not one roll of 25%
  37. 00:53:39: <Nayrz> ah i see
  38. 00:54:31: <Plumberjack> so 444 HP would be 444 / 8 = 55,5 rounded down to 55 times two = 110, not 444 / 4 = 111
  39. 00:54:31: <Plumberjack> yeah
  40. 00:54:48: <Nayrz> so no difference?
  41. 00:55:14: <Plumberjack> maxing hp should make no difference for SR + 1 spike layer, no
  42. 00:55:29: <Plumberjack> unless max hp is divisible by 8 of course, but yeah
  43. 00:55:38: <Nayrz> so literally just triple spike
  44. 00:55:57: <Plumberjack> unless i'm overlooking something, but afaik that's the only passive damage source that inflicts 25% hp
  45. 00:56:04: <Nayrz> unless toxic somehow comes into this but i dont remember its damage scaling off the top of my head
  46. 00:56:15: <Nayrz> it does 24% after 3 turns?
  47. 00:56:21: <Nayrz> i'll look it up
  48. 00:56:26: <Plumberjack> i think toxic does 25% on its fourth turn
  49. 00:56:32: <Plumberjack> 1/16, 2/16, 3/16, 4/16, etc
  50. 00:56:37: <Plumberjack> but
  51. 00:56:38: <Plumberjack> meh
  52. 00:57:38: <Nayrz> At the end of each turn when the target takes damage from the poison, the damage done will be N * x, where N starts at 1 and x is 1/16 of the target's maximum HP (rounded down) or 1 if that is larger. While a Pokémon is badly poisoned, N increases by 1 each time it takes either Toxic or Leech Seed damage at the end of a turn (meaning it may increase twice if a Pokémon is affected by both).
  53. 00:57:42: <Nayrz> brain = gone
  54. 00:58:16: <Plumberjack> beautiful
  55. 00:58:23: <Nayrz> probably best to stick with 252 then huh
  56. 00:58:28: <Plumberjack> yup
  57. 00:58:31: <Nayrz> i'll change that
