  1. In the setting of BWB, robots are, for the most part, treated as property, or second class citizens; however, the majority display indifference towards them, and more intelligent or advanced robots are more likely to be seen as equals. The AI of a robot comes in several different types:
  2.
  3. Type I AI are extremely rudimentary - unable to communicate, extremely simple minded, and often only used for one specific task. Roombas in real life would be an example of a Type I.
  4.
  5. Type II AI are more advanced, still unable to communicate save via interactions with other robots, but able to understand speech and follow most instructions. They are still programmed strictly for one or a few purposes, but are more versatile overall than Type Is. Coronet's robot companion Cartor is an example of a Type II.
  6.
  7. Type III are what most players will want for their robot characters. They are fully able to communicate, can display a range of emotions and process complex instructions. Most combat units in game are Type IIIs, and a good example of a non-hostile Type III would be C3PO.
  8.
  9. Type IVs are somewhat rarer than the previous types. Much like Type IIIs, they can process complex instructions, but are also advanced enough to portray nearly flawless simulations of real emotions, and oftentimes think for themselves. Androids are almost universally considered Type IVs. They are also a viable option for players to choose from.
  10.
  11. Type Vs are the rarest of all, not only having achieved near sapience but also having great influence over technology, easily able to manipulate entire structures by tapping in with their systems. They are incredibly intelligent robots, and rarely ever interacted with outside of certain facilities. A malevolent example of a Type V would be GLaDOS.
  12.
  13. There are rumors of a Type VI having been invented somewhere, but what this entails is as of yet unknown.
  14.
  15. Note: Type IIIs and above are intelligent to, if left to their own devices, develop their own thoughts and eventually break their programming, achieving sentience. Robots in this state of being, colloquially referred to as 'awoken' or 'arisen' robots, are an increasingly common phenomenon, albeit a recent one in the galaxy.
