  1. Okay, here goes, then.
  2. Obviously we all know Aoyama was missing during USJ. We're led to believe later on thanks to finding out he has a cowardly personality during the forest lodge arc that he was more than likely hiding in fear during both. Up until this point, the theory of Aoyama being the traitor was one of the most plausible, and was up there (at the time) with the Kaminari theory in terms of plausibility. Then again, there were a LOT of suspects, we didn't know much about a large amount of 1-A, and anyone was fair game. But this is information we've known for a long time, this was in the past. Where most people tend to rule Aoyama off of the traitor list is when he fired his laser at Mr. Compress, freeing Tokoyami and almost Bakugou as well. That action alone was enough to make Aoyama innocent, right? Well, surprisingly, I agree. I don't think that's something a traitor would do. Obviously, as a traitor, you have to keep a certain degree of an alibi, you have to do SOMETHING to defend or benefit the side you're infiltrating, but completely ruining a plan is taking it one step too far. The League could have easily lost Bakugou there, and sacrificed three villains for nothing. For that reason, I agree, I don't think Aoyama could be a traitor because of this situation.
  3. But what about before that? What do I mean? Well, let's keep going.
  4. Take a look at the top image I've posted, and check out Aoyama's face compared to everyone else's. A minor detail, but he's sweating his butt off, and looks significantly more worried than anyone else in the room. If you can't remember where this scene was, I'll give you a refresher, it's when they were debating going and saving Bakugou on their own. It's long been discussed why and how the League didn't know about the kids' rescue mission, and what most people assume is that the traitor wasn't present in the room while they were having this discussion, making Sero, Satou, Koda, and company innocent. That's an ideal world, that's great. But now we're left without an idea of a traitor. Jirou? Tooru? Someone else who's not present in that room? No, folks, and here's what I propose. Aoyama WAS the traitor, and defected. Let's put the foundational pieces together.
  5. USJ. All students are teleported in groups of at least two. Even Todoroki was teleported with Tooru. How likely is it, then, that Aoyama would be teleported somewhere by himself, and not be seen by any of the other students? I find it probable that, assuming he IS the traitor in this scenario, Kurogiri would have teleported somewhere safe and away from the action. I think that's reasonable to assume.
  6. Next, the forest lodge arc. Aoyama is teamed up with Yaoyorozu to go into the forest. Once the gas hits, Yaoyorozu tasks Aoyama with carrying a wounded Jirou and Tooru to safety, and we see him cowering behind a bush in fear instead, looking down at his unconscious friends and having an internal breakdown. At this point, assuming Aoyama is the traitor, this is where I believe he starts to transition. For whatever reason, Aoyama had been slipping info to the villains, and he's now beginning to doubt himself. Two innocent, kind, heroic people were laying there on the ground, depending on him, and all he could do is sit there and hide while his classmates die, and he knew about it.
  7. So, then, we reach the point. Aoyama finally decides to buck up, be a hero, and stick it to the villains. He clenches his buttocks and fires a ray of "I'm not working for you anymore" towards Compress, saving Tokoyami, and cutting all ties he may have had with the villains. He's now a hero, he's decided.
  8. ...Well, sort of. Now, you might be thinking this is insane. How could I even think this, this is a lot of implying! It gets more convincing as we go on, so let's continue.
  9. Have you ever noticed how the villains haven't received a single piece of intel from the traitor since the attack on the forest lodge? No, really, not a single thing. They didn't know about the kids' Bakugou rescue mission, and they needed Toga to infiltrate the license exams to get Deku's blood. Ever since the forest lodge, the villains have known nothing about the movements of USJ. It's almost as if the traitor isn't doing his job.
  10. Let's go back to that panel of Aoyama sweating, but this time plug in my theory up to now into the equation. Aoyama is feeling guilty. He's feeling worried that villains will be after him. He's feeling unworthy of being a hero. He's feeling all around terrible. Explains the expression a whole lot more, doesn't it? Now, let's press on to the meat of the theory.
  11. We've got a boy who's feeling guilty, he feels like he needs to make something up to the people he betrayed. What do you do when you need to make a serious redemption very quickly and effectively? You sacrifice yourself. Fittingly enough, that's exactly what Aoyama proceeds to do. During the license exams, he sacrifices his own chance at a license in order for his friends to succeed. Thankfully, he manages to pass as well thanks to everyone else supporting him, but his flashback and inner monologue is important here. Depending on translation, he talks about properly striving for his dreams, and the fact that he's always dreamt of being equal to everyone else. This is vague, and could definitely have something to do with his motive for being the traitor, but I think it's more likely that this is simply what it looks like, his motive for becoming a hero. His heroic spirit surfacing once again and him realizing that being a hero and supporting his friends is what'll really put him back on the right path.
  12. And, finally, these most recent chapters. Hoo, boy, I love these chapters. At first I thought they were incredibly weird, and they left me with a feeling of "THAT'S IT?!" when I first finished reading them. Let me put the entirety of the events into a quick little dissected summary, since that'll help us out here.
  13. Aoyama starts acting weird around Deku. Aoyama gives Deku a cryptic message. He continues trying to get Deku's attention. Deku finally approaches him. He explains that he respects Deku for striving with a quirk that works against his body, similar to his own. Deku gives him a motivational speech. He poops. They all live happily ever after.
  14. Okay, now there's something really important here. It's right between the motivational speech, which is also incredibly important, and the poop. Deku's speech is thanking Aoyama for being there for him, and being LOYAL. Being TRUSTWORTHY. Now here's what people miss, Aoyama goes from being very eccentric, his usual self, to a very glum, somber looking face, as soon as Deku says this. Something about this struck deep with Aoyama, and made him feel a way that he didn't tell Deku. Look at his face (bottom image) and tell me that isn't the face of "..That's not it, that's not what I wanted to tell you, but I don't have the heart.."
  15. I believe Aoyama made up that bullshit about admiring Deku's quirk. I'm sure he does, but I'm also very confident it was just an excuse to chicken out of what he REALLY wanted to say.
  16. Midoriya is very kind. He's trustworthy. He's admirable. If there would be anyone to go to, to get this massive weight off of your chest, to say "I WAS THE TRAITOR, AND I FEEL HORRIBLE ABOUT IT, WHAT DO I DO?!" it would be Midoriya.
  17. That's what I believe Aoyama tried to do last chapter. And he couldn't.
  18. Look at his face.
  19. Aoyama's character arc is not over, and I have the feeling it will continue much sooner than we think.
