  2. The Deceived
  3.
  4. Not everybody who awakens to a watchtower is the most...well developed or careful individual. All over the world, myriad cults draw in the desperate, the lost, the lonely, and while some are more harmless then others, the memories of Jonestown and Waco are still fresh in the minds of many. However, every so often, a Mage comes from these dispossessed individuals, and some find supernal truths in the mix of nonsense most cults peddle. Perhaps the leader was just lucky, and happened to spew forth the wisdom of the Oracles, or maybe something else was pulling the strings behind him, and some of the...entity's influence leaked forth. Whatever the means, these Cultsworn Mages can use their former beliefs to channel the supernal.

  6. Sounds like a seer legacy, TBH.
  7. Also, that's technically possible for anyone.
  8. AutochthonToday at 9:16 PM
  9. Who else is gonna bother with then?
  10. *Them
  11. Spring WindToday at 9:16 PM
  12. A legacy like that would be too disparate to form a unified group.
  13. Their innate beliefs derived from cults would clash.
  14. AutochthonToday at 9:17 PM
  15. well the idea is its widespread, but those who where deceived feel a...connection with others. The mages on the legacy now know their cult was 99 percent bullshit, its impossible to awaken and NOT be able to see through it
  16. Spring WindToday at 9:17 PM
  17. Aaaaah
  18. hmmm
  19. But what beliefs would unify them?
  20. What organization would they have?
  21. Legacies are generally founded by an individual or cabal, and spread from there.
  22. AutochthonToday at 9:18 PM
  23. The idea that /anything/ can have supernal truth to it, and that be it madness or channeling a spirit, exarch, or something else, they might just have a window they can peer through and see something interesting
  24. Basically they study cult leaders and members and see if there's anything more to it like theirs was
  25. And if there is, investigate, dissect, and extract what they can. Ideally before taking down the cult once its been milked of all supernal potential
  26. Spring WindToday at 9:19 PM
  27. Look for the secrets they might be hoarding, or else have bumbled into.
  28. AutochthonToday at 9:19 PM
  29. Indeed
  30. Who knows, that raving guy in a tent in kansas might actually /have/ some great secret whispered in his ear by a Kereboi that lets him buttress souls from death
  31. Spring WindToday at 9:20 PM
  32. ...Guardians of the Veil/Mastigos.
  33. As the parent order/path
  34. Possibly Mysterium.
  35. Their main arcanum is prime, as prime is the arcanum of truth.
  36. AutochthonToday at 9:21 PM
  37. I suggest having a separate faction of it being the Seers, with the difference being they actually promote deranged cult beliefs to both keep humans from unifying, and as basically milking the cash cow. So what if a few people kill themselves, it gets them one step closer to understanding the Exarchs and attaining their power.
  38. Needless to say, the Pentacle mages of the first branch do NOT like the idea of the Seers seeing what they do and saying "Now why didn't WE think of that"(edited)
  39. Spring WindToday at 9:22 PM
  40. I guess it depends on whether they focus on breaking cults apart, or trying to steal their secrets.
  41. The former would be Guardians, the latter would be Mysterium generally.
  42. AutochthonToday at 9:25 PM
  43. On cults
  44.
  45. There are many different ways to define a cult, but for this specific legacy, a cult is any fringe occult or faith based sect that mainstream society tends to ignore, overlook, or mock. Essentially, by turning over rocks nobody else has even bothered to look at, these Mages hope that something fascinating is hidden underneath. Sure, a lot of the times its just worms, but every so often, you get an artifact, the true name of a spirit, a moment of understanding that raises ones gnosis, or the runes to banish a single Gulmoth back to the Abyss. Malevolence, foolishness, and competence are second to mysteriousness and general obscurity.
  46. IE: The Raelians are technically a cult, but they're basically harmless
  47. Mormons are considered by many to be a cult, but they're so mainstream that there's not much that hasn't already been explored
  48. So they're not a cult for this legacy
  49. Spring WindToday at 9:27 PM
  50. Yeah, they've calmed down.
  51. Used to be that you were shown a video that said, "If you break away, Satan will kill you in your sleep" or something like that and they were forced to stop showing it.
  52. Because it was construed to be a threat.
  53. AutochthonToday at 9:28 PM
  54. We'll say back in the 1800s a mage of the Legacy figured out the whole "Garden of Eden in Minnesota" thing lead them to an Atlantean Ruin, but after that they got basically all they could out of it
