  1. Read the blog post! Email Holo.
  2.
  3. And be sure you really want to do this. Nobody wins when you take the test and then don't do anything.
  4.
  5. Get the test at http://hologfx.com/qcingtest/
  6. Right click > "Save Link As" > you have the test. Make sure nobody is looking over your shoulder.
  7.
  8. QC Test: This test is strictly a test of your ability to QC. No editing involved. Your job is spot the errors. For example, spelling mistakes, its/it's etc etc. US/UK spelling does not count as a spelling error. For the record, we use UK spelling. Find the errors, correct them, and add {fixed} to the end of the line. Send the .ass file back to misteranonimous on GMail, with your irc name in it.
  9.
  10. tl;dr Find and fix spelling problems, mark them {fixed}. Ignore grammar/wording mistakes; that comes later.
  11. Disregard US/UK spelling differences.
  12.
  13. To edit the .ass file:
  14. Windows
  15. -Aegisub.
  16. This will be a necessity.
  17. http://www.aegisub.org/
  18. -Any text editor
  19. .ass files are plaintext. Don't forget you almost certainly will need Aegisub eventually anyway.
  20.
  21. Mac
  22. -Textedit. For the love of god do not use Aegisub for Mac. (This may have changed with Aegisub 3.)
  23.
  24. Linux
  25. -I am not a Linux user. Any text editor will work, or you can find an Aegisub package/build it yourself.
  26.
  27. When you finish, email Holo the .ass with your name in it, e.g. "QC Test - rarely_upset.ass".
  28.
  29. Hang around IRC for a… while. Eventually, somebody will get back to you about the QC test, and if you pass you will be given the editing test.
  30.
  31. The goal of the editing test is to smooth out the English in the script. "It can't be helped that Gotou-sama's sword was of such a big size as that." is an extreme example. Read up on our editing conventions (http://www.hologfx.com/dump/The_Basics_of_Editing.htm)! Email this to misteranonimous too.
  32.
  33. We will review the editing test as soon as we can. A lot of people apply, so you might have to wait a few days. Hang out in #doki-recruits! Make a few friends; you'll be working with the people around you if you pass. #doki is also open; it's much more populated and lively.
  34.
  35. More questions?
  36. Ask any staff in the recruits channel. They'll have a color or symbol next to their name in most IRC clients.
