  1. [17:36] <~Teller|GM> Claire slowly comes to. It's quiet in the warehouse. Dark as well, with only a minimal amount of dim sunlight coming from the still open loading dock door at the other end of the building.
  2. [17:36] <~Teller|GM> She's human. Her mouth is dry and her head feels heavy, due to equal parts hangover and lack of sleep. Whenever she had started to drift off she'd dropped back into her human form, and that had led to the sensitivity in her legs waking her - that, or the drunk next to her poking until she roused and turned back into a snake.
  3. [17:36] <~Teller|GM> Her legs lie on the ground in front of her, off-white mechanical feet splayed limply in either direction. They're still sensitive, but it's bearable. She'd either gotten used to it or the sensitivity has gone down.
  4. [17:36] <~Teller|GM> The drunk girl is still curled up on the floor nearby, holding a mostly empty bottle and sleeping softly. ||

  6. 09[17:51] <tubes|Slither> Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  7. 09[17:51] <tubes|Slither> Claire comes to slowly and unwillingly. This would be one of those times were you take the pillow and put it back over your face, except she doesn't have a pillow, and that doesn't work so great with a concrete floor. It only grows more uncomfortable the longer she lies there and tries to ignore it, so she's eventually forced to (very) slowly work herself up into an upright position.
  8. 09[17:51] <tubes|Slither> She has that brief, unique, "what-the-fuck-happened" feeling that comes up from waking up hungover in an unfamiliar place, and she spends a solid minute rubbing her eyes before the lights and gears slowly start to turn back on and the events of last night (and most of yesterday fall into place).
  9. 09[17:51] <tubes|Slither> She'd been having fun, and then she'd fucked it all up. Again. At least the babysitter had seemed sympathetic. And had apparently sent someone, completely blitzed though they were...Nate? Nathanial? Wait, those were boy names....uhhh....Nat? She vaguely remembers something involving Superstition, but her pity-party and train of thought keeps getting interrupted by the difficulty she's having in seperating her mouth from the roof of her tongue. She needed to find some water or something. She turns into a snake and slithers out looking for something, not really caring about apperances at this point. ||

  14. [18:01] <~Teller|GM> The abandoned warehouse looks to have been returned to its former state. There are still a handful of out of place looking couches and tables scattered around, but the drinks, lights, and speakers are all gone. She spies a few lingering partiers, people who spent the night here on the couches or in corners like she had. Her camouflage is fading as she moves,
  15. [18:01] <~Teller|GM> but is still plenty strong enough to hide her from the people who are retrieving their shoes and/or underwear before heading back into the world. ||
  16. 09[18:06] <tubes|Slither> Well, they'd probably freak out like everyone else if they saw her, and there clearly wasn't anything out here, so it probably wasn't worth it...she tries to push down that niggling feeling that's starting to work it's way through the hangover, the one that reminds her she's a hobo with no clue what to do next. Maybe that Nat chick would know something.
  17. 09[18:06] <tubes|Slither> She goes back and positions herself in a sitting position next to the girl, before turning back and repeatedly poking her in the cheek. Payback's a bitch. ||
  18. [18:10] <~Teller|GM> "Mrm, quit it. 'm up," Nat says. She doesn't move from her position on the ground, but one eye cracks open and looks up at her. ||
  19. 09[18:21] <tubes|Slither> Claire rubs her forehead with the heel of her hand, trying to remember what she was actually going to ask, as if she could rub out the headache clogging her thoughts?
  20. 09[18:21] <tubes|Slither> ...It takes her a long moment before she can finally pull it together. Oh right...she was pretty sure this was Superstition. She's not really sure what the proper etiquette is on asking if someone else is the secret identity of a cape. Or was it the other way around? Was she kinda supposed to just ignore it? Drop subtle hints? Was asking rude?
  21. 09[18:21] <tubes|Slither> Whatever, this was too much work. She just ignores it for now.
  22. 09[18:21] <tubes|Slither> "...you were really fucked up. 'snek plox'?" Claire says. ||

  25. [18:39] <~Teller|GM> Nat sits up, which allows Claire to get a better look at her. She's definitely the right body type to be Superstition, but that's where her expectations of what Superstition looked like under her costume part ways with the appearance of the girl in front of her. Light brown skin, and her features look Indian or Middle Eastern. Pretty, other than the fact
  26. [18:39] <~Teller|GM> that she looks like she got ran over by a car at the moment.
  27. [18:39] <~Teller|GM> "Yeah," Nat agrees, rubbing at her eyes. She adjusts the strap of her dress and pulls up a stocking, which only slightly alleviates the 'ran over by a car' look. ||
  28. 09[18:42] <tubes|Slither> "...rough day?" Claire asks, after a few moments of both of them just kind sitting there blearily. ||
  29. [18:58] <~Teller|GM> "Yeah," Nat says again. "Think you'd win the 'rough day' blue ribbon, though."
  30. [18:58] <~Teller|GM> Without warning Claire's legs start cramping. It feels like every muscle is contracting at once - even ones in her feet and joints, which isn't fair since she's pretty sure those don't even /have/ muscles anymore.
  31. [18:58] <~Teller|GM> Nat inhales sharply as if with pain, and Claire notes that she's suddenly curling her toes and hold her legs rigidly inside of her stockings. She opens her mouth like she's about to say something, then just gives Claire a look instead. ||
  32. 09[19:02] <tubes|Slither> Claire lets out a hiss of pain through clenched teeth. She reaches down out of reflex to squeeze or rub the affected parts, except half of them are made of metal so that doesn't even work. She spends a moment trying to hap-hazardly knead what flesh she has before a thought works it's way through the pain, she remembers last night, and switches into her snake form. ||

  34. [19:11] <~Teller|GM> With her snake form comes relief. Her legs can't hurt if she doesn't have any. Nat visibly relaxes.
  35. [19:11] <~Teller|GM> "Man, does that suck," Nat groans. "Fucking Abby. I'm too hungover for this." ||
  36. 03[19:21] * FaustAndAbout is now known as Faustus
  37. 09[19:30] <tubes|Slither> Claire lets out a hissing sigh of equal parts relief and frustration, shifting her larger tail around to a more comfortable position. Claire agrees.
  38. 09[19:30] <tubes|Slither> While she's certainly not happy with Abby, she can't really bring herself to get worked up over it. What was the point? She'd tried doing things for herself, she'd tried letting other people tell her what to do, be a villain, help people out, whatever, and here she is...the same, or more probably worse than she was at the start of this whole debacle, week ago.
  39. 09[19:30] <tubes|Slither> She's not really even sure how she feels. Where she was feeling miserable and pathetic last night, there's just...nothing. She felt lost, more than anything. She couldn't seem to do anything but make the wrong choice. What was one more stone on the pile? The only thing that keeps her from giving up entirely and just lying down on the floor was that Shakesphere would probably get pissed - well, she's not really sure if he ever did 'pissed' - but he would probably disapprove. At least a few people tried to help her, however misguided they were, Supersition among them. Claire knew she was a miserable sad sack and a waste of space, but she had no desire to add 'ungrateful' to the heap. She was still among the living, so what else could she do?
  40. 09[19:30] <tubes|Slither> Having had a moment of relief and self-reflection, she turns back to Nat. "...so...what's the plan? ...It took them long time to quit the last weird thing they were doing, so i'm probably, um, stuck like this for a while." Not that she could get around otherwise anyway. ||
  41. [19:37] <~Teller|GM> "Plan," Nat says the word with a self-deprecating laugh. "Right. Because I'm great at those." ||
  42. 03[19:38] * Faustus is now known as FaustAndAbout
  43. 09[19:49] <tubes|Slither> Well, she had a gang and cape minions at the very least, so she couldn't be too bad at it. Still, Claire gets the feeling. One of those plans involved Claire not being a total fuck-up, after all.
  44. 09[19:49] <tubes|Slither> "...sorry. I, uh...," She feels really awkward, but it wasn't like it was a secret, or anything
  45. 09[19:49] <tubes|Slither> "...I know, um, I keep, well, fucking them up."
  46. 09[19:49] <tubes|Slither> It wasn't her fault for assuming some basic level of competency from Claire, after all.
  47. 09[19:49] <tubes|Slither> "...the least I could do is help out. I don't, um...,"
  48. 09[19:49] <tubes|Slither> Claire wants to know if the offer to join-up is still on the table - everyone she'd met from Whirlwind and at the party had been pretty okay, really, and certainly hadn't accused her of being a serial killer and threating to hit her with a lock on a chain - but it felt, well, really awkward to ask. There was also Abby, but Claire got the impression that she wasn't so much in the group as Superstition tried to keep her...corraled. Or rodeoed. Like one might keep a wild animal at the zoo. Hence the babysitter. Who she feels kind of bad for snapping at, since he clearly hadn't been on board with whatever Abby's 'plan' was, not that she probably ever planned anything out in advance.
  49. 09[19:49] <tubes|Slither> She doesn't end up finishing her sentence. ||
  50. [20:01] <~Teller|GM> "Help out?" Nat says. She rubs her eyes again. "Hang on. Let's wait for everyone else to leave."
  51. [20:01] <~Teller|GM> She sits quietly, spinning the bottle on the floor idly. It's about ten minutes later that - without bothering to look out from behind the crates - she says, "Alright, we're alone."
  52. [20:01] <~Teller|GM> "There's a mic in your legs, just so you know," she adds. "Doesn't work when you're a snake, but otherwise Abby can listen in on you." ||

  55. 09[20:14] <tubes|Slither> Of course there was. She'd known new legs were too good of a deal to be true when she'd gotten them, but, well, what the hell was she supposed to have done? 'No thanks, i'll stay crippled'. Right.
  56. 09[20:14] <tubes|Slither> Claire lets out another hissing sigh. "Figures." She mumbles.
  57. 09[20:14] <tubes|Slither> Was Superstition really going to make her spit it out? Well, it's not like she has any dignity left anyway.
  58. 09[20:14] <tubes|Slither> "...you asked me earlier if I wouldn't rather join Whirlwind. I was going to tell you 'yes' whenever you showed up at the party, but everything went to shit, so I didn't get the chance. I'm retarded," Claire says, with a note of vehemence, "so I had to sit there and think about it for a while, and have yet another shitty thing happen, before I got it through my head that i'd be better off with someone who'd tried to help me a bunch, whose advice I keep ignoring - and have yet more shitty things happen when I do - than some random weirdos who just happened to catch me at a bad time."
  59. 09[20:14] <tubes|Slither> She'd wanted to avoid just confessing to Superstition, but-
  60. 09[20:14] <tubes|Slither> She grows suddenly worried that Superstition is just going to stand up and walk out on her. Then she'd really have nobody left, other than a deranged little tinker who was spying on her and waiting for an excuse to blow her up, like she'd already done to someone else.
  61. 09[20:14] <tubes|Slither> "...I, I can tell you what I picked up about Think Tank..." She adds, haphazardly. ||
  62. [20:38] <~Teller|GM> "I'm not going to lie, I - we could use the help," Nat sighs. She rises to her knees so that she's looking Claire in the face. "But, well..."
  63. [20:38] <~Teller|GM> She takes a deep breath. "We're all terrible people who are probably going to end up in the Birdcage, or dead, or worse. Things are about to get really violent and nasty, and...dammit, you haven't hurt a fly, and you've had every reason to kill basically everyone you've met." ||
  64. 09[21:06] <tubes|Slither> Claire curls up her tail a little, shifting. Why did everyone want to know why she wasn't a killer? Was she supposed to be one? Well, she knew the answer to that one, actually, thanks to Kat(ja) and it was apparently yes.
  65. 09[21:06] <tubes|Slither> Nat was overstating it a little, Claire thinks, but...Claire's known for a while now she didn't really have much of an option besides going out with a bang. Possibly literally. Claire meets Superstition's look for a moment, then looks down for another, thinking of how to respond. She'd chew on her lip, but she doens't have any, and it's kind of annoying, actually. But any of the things she was going to say, she certainly didn't want Abby to hear, so she can't switch back just to be a little more comfortable. Her legs were probably still cramping anyway. She tries to think of where to start, without boring Nat with her life story.
  66. 09[21:06] <tubes|Slither> "...it's sort of a long answer, but, well..." Claire trails off, trying to arrange her thoughts. Thinking it through, it probably explains why Superstition's been so weird to her, in the past.
  67. 09[21:06] <tubes|Slither> She sighs again. She might as well start an internet blog at this rate. She was just going to have to write her goddamn memoirs here, wasn't she. Well, if they were all going to end up dead, in the birdcage, or worse, she might as well. Superstition had seen enough, probably, with whatever her power did some context might help. She goes to clear her throat, but finds her snake form doesn't have the right muscles, or really need it. Just another reminder of how far gone her life was. What was the right context for all of this? She tries to focus, keep her voice clear, not stutter. This was important.
  68. 09[21:06] <tubes|Slither> "You deserve a real answer, at least...
  69. 09[21:06] <tubes|Slither> I don't know if you know, but Think Tank's precog - Katja - does it by seeing what could have been, or, might-have-beens, or something. Apparently in most of them, all the 'close' ones - whatever that means - I'm "The Butcher Queen of Sicol Bend", Shakesphere's 'girl' and top-notch serial killer. That's why I was hanging out with them, so freaked out. That's why she was a crazy hobo waving rusty knives at me - She'd seen it often enough that she was convinced that this 'me' was a liar, or a disaster waiting to happen, or something." Claire pauses, trying to collect herself, before continuing. || ((give Nat a chance to interject? ))

  74. 09[21:37] <tubes|Slither> "She's /not wrong/," Claire continues, a little stronger, feeling a little better, or maybe cathartic, for saying it out loud.
  75. 09[21:37] <tubes|Slither> "I've wanted to do it. I /could/ do it. I spent all that time cooped up in Nate's base looking at dumb shit on PHO. My power isn't weak. Maybe I missed a turn somewhere from Katja's world, I don't know. Every time I, I, I don't know, 'flex', a little bit - the thing with Crest, that stupid stick-up I pulled yesterday - It feels amazing. It feels /right/. People having no choice but to listen to me. But at the same time, I hate it, because it reminds me of the whole reason I got into this stupid, bullshit, in the first place, was because of, people, /someone/ like that."
  76. 09[21:37] <tubes|Slither> Her snake form has zero emotional reaction to the deep personal truths she's dropping. It doesn't really feel right, but it makes it a little easier to continue.
  77. 09[21:37] <tubes|Slither> "But that's why I, I'm stuck. I," she stumbles a bit, not really wanting to talk about her trigger event,
  78. 09[21:37] <tubes|Slither> "I guess...let's just say there's no other alternate route. I haven't done anything really bad yet, sure, but what do I get if I turn myself in? I get to see /those people/ again, at a fucking trial, or something, and I don't know, a lighter sentence, probably. Nothing changes, except I probably get some, some, fucking prison tattoos, or something. They won't give me a hero job, that's for sure. There's no PR spin they can put on a, a, creepy snake thing that turns people inside out!"
  79. 09[21:37] <tubes|Slither> Claire finds herself getting angry. This was all so fucking stupid, so unfair. Admitting, out loud, what waited for her at the end of the line, did a good job of snapping her out of her usual depressive state, getting her worked up. She tries to calm down, not get side-tracked.
  80. 09[21:37] <tubes|Slither> "And so, I...I..." Claire is suddenly unsure of where she was going with all this, sure that there's no reason for Nat to care at all. She hangs her head a bit.
  81. 09[21:37] <tubes|Slither> "I don't want to be a killer, but when I like hurting people, and everyone keeps expecting me to do it, and it's apparently the only thing i'm good at...
  82. 09[21:37] <tubes|Slither> ...I guess what i'm saying is, is that i'm going down, somehow, no matter what. And, and, I'd rather have some friends when I did."
  83. 09[21:37] <tubes|Slither> Her confession complete, Claire clams up and curls up on her tail, breaking eye contact with Nat. It was weirdly comfortable to do, in this form. She wishes she could turn back, but her legs were probably still cramping up. ||

  89. [22:10] <~Teller|GM> "Anyway, you're making it /really/ hard not to take advantage of you, but..." Nat sighs. "Look, I...I killed a man yesterday, and the PRT knows I did it. Purple Parrot still asked me if I wanted to be a Ward. They'd take you in a heartbeat."
  90. [22:10] <~Teller|GM> "You've got options, Claire. If you want to join Whirlwind...I'll take you. I'm too desperate not to. 98. 09[22:49] <tubes|Slither> She's mildly suprised at Supersition's murder confession, but doesn't say anything about it. He who casts the first stone, and all that. It was probably blind luck she wasn't guilty of that too.
  99. 09[22:49] <tubes|Slither> What's worse, really, is that Superstition is giving her options. She doesn't want options. Options is how she keeps fucking herself over. Supersition had a power that was, apparently useful for something other than showing people's insides to their outsides (unlike Claire), but if they'd take a killer...
  100. 09[22:49] <tubes|Slither> Still, Claire isn't so convinced. There that was the bomb thing, and the Tinker wandering around, who'd already done it once.
  101. 09[22:49] <tubes|Slither> She'd definitely hurt more than a fly. Just because she hadn't killed anyone - more by luck than anything - didn't make her, I don't know, some kind of passover lamb. Nat was probably right about her projecting. Still, it's enough to make her pause and think...
  102. 09[22:49] <tubes|Slither> She just can't...imagine herself as a hero. What does she do there? Where does she go from there? Say they take her...not that Claire thinks that likely, given that they were digging in dumpsters to root her out.
  103. 09[22:49] <tubes|Slither> Not to mention, Superstition was, well, practically enocouraging Claire to say, "wow, good point, fuck you, see ya!"
  104. 09[22:49] <tubes|Slither> ...That's a feeling Claire has been on the opposite end of too many times to dimiss. She can't just, well, do that, not after all the times Superstition had helped her, especially not after Claire'd practically said, 'i'm pathetic take me' and then Superstition said, 'no you're better than that'
  105. 09[22:49] <tubes|Slither> What the hell was she supposed to take away from that?

  108. 09[22:51] <tubes|Slither> She'd seen Nat freaking out, so bad she couldn't breathe or walk. Why the hell would you keep doing that to yourself? Living under a bridge would be better, much less a cushy government job with what was probably one of the strongest teams in town at this point. ||

At the very least, Claire knew, it wouldn't be super hard for an organization like the PRT to move Nat and her family across the country and give them new identities, if they really wanted to.
  115. 09[23:20] <tubes|Slither> Which, knowing she was a 'killer' and still wanted to recruit her, it had to be assumed they were willing to do that much. It just doesn't seem to add up.
  116. 09[23:20] <tubes|Slither> Still, it seemed to be a sticking point, and, well, now she'd stuck it in Claire's head. Which Claire isn't really happy about, but now there's no getting rid of the idea. Slither as a hero. What a joke. But the joke won't go away.
  117. 09[23:20] <tubes|Slither> "...alright, fine." Claire says. She didn't really think the heroes would take her (or any claims that they would were lies - her power was a whole lot different than whatever Superstitions did) but it seemed to be a sticking point for the other supervillaness. ||

  121. [23:36] <~Teller|GM> "Oh," Nat seems surprised. "I can just go get you a phone from my car, you know."
  122. [23:36] <~Teller|GM> "Also, I don't know if you owe me anything, but..." she hesitates. "My power means I feel everything that you do. So if we're talking favors, my legs and I would appreciate you being in your snake form as much as possible for the next three days."
  123. [23:36] <~Teller|GM> "And, you know, refraining from...other things...would be nice too," she says. In a joking tone, she adds, "Especially other things with Molly. I do /not/ need to know how that feels." ||
  124. Session Time: Sat Mar 18 00:00:00 2017
  125. 09[00:01] <tubes|Slither> "If...if you think it's possible to do now then, then sure." Claire's not really sure being hungover is the best time to call the authorities in her supervillain persona and demand answers, but then again, if she was 'clear-headed' she'd probably be crying, so whatever.
  126. 09[00:01] <tubes|Slither> "The leg thing isn't any more fun for me, so I wouldn't worry, but...uh...," she trails off, suddenly embarassed by the next part. She was supposed to be the adult here. Right. Yeah. Totally. She remembers her totally blown chance with Mr. Normal, mostly embarassed...though a tiny part is dissapointed.
  127. 09[00:01] <tubes|Slither> Claire attemps to control herself before Superstition can do too much of...whatever it is she does.
  128. 09[00:01] <tubes|Slither> Since she can't actually clear her throat, she just says- "Ahem. Molly offered and I declined, so I am deeply offended you would imply I might do otherwise." She says, pretending be imperious.
  129. 09[00:01] <tubes|Slither> The fact that Superstition can use a joking tone with her at all means the world to Claire. It's something other than pity or fear, it's something she might get from a, a friend. ||
  130. [00:11] <~Teller|GM> Nat stands up. "Do you want anything first? I can feel your hangover on top of my hangover, and it's not fun. Water? Breakfast?" ||

  132. 09[00:20] <tubes|Slither> They'd both managed to distract themselves through the drama (and Claire via use of superpowers) but now that that was done, she was pretty sure she was barely going to be able to swallow when she switched back.
  133. 09[00:20] <tubes|Slither> "Yeah, both..." she trails off for a moment. "I, well, I know it's, um awkward, but..." Claire really didn't want to just sit here. "I've got, like 150 bucks...it's probably enough, if, well, if you can find a pharmacy and buy a shitty wheelchair." Walgreens usually kept one or two of the cheap medical kind in stock, she knew from unfortunate experience. ||

  135. [00:25] <~Teller|GM> "Yeah, sure," Nat says. She looks around. "This is also kind of awkward, but can you help me find my shoes? They'll probably be near wherever I left my dignity last night." ||
  136. 09[00:29] <tubes|Slither> Claire's not sure if she remembers Nat wearing shoes last night, but, before she does that she has to turn back to human to get her cash, so she braces herself for possible cramps. ||
  137. [00:33] <~Teller|GM> Her legs feel fine when she transforms back to human. Far too warm, but not unbearably so - probably no worse than if she'd been laying out in the sun for a few hours.

  142. [00:46] <~Teller|GM> "By the way, there's two, maybe three Indians in Sicol Bend, and exactly one of them is a teenage girl named Natalie," Nat says, as she and Claire search for her shoes. "So keep that quiet? I shouldn't have even come over last night, but I was in pain. And wasted."
  143. [00:46] <~Teller|GM> Claire finds Superstition's shoes, a pair of black flats, near the back of the shelves. She also finds her own boots and socks, which have somehow migrated from where Abby 'fixed' her legs to behind one of the couches. At least they were still here. ||

  147. 09[00:55] <tubes|Slither> That explains why she spent so much worry on her secret identity. Still, it's not like Claire has a whole lot of people to rat about it to, even if she felt inclined. She points out Nat's shoes to her, not wanting to accidentally damage them with the claws of her snake-form, before she sets up to to work her socks and boots back on.
  148. 09[00:55] <tubes|Slither> "Yeah, i'l keep that on the dee-ell when I narc. YOu know, to all the people I deal information to." Claire says, sarcastically. What she doesn't say is that the back-and-forth has her feeling better than she has in days. ||
  149. [01:09] <~Teller|GM> "Good, good," Nat says, slipping on her shoes. "Everything's else fair game, just not that exact specific thing."
  150. [01:09] <~Teller|GM> It's demoralizing to realize she's back to where she was at the Brotherhood's estate, mobility wise, as she uses her snake form to collect her boots and socks, but talking with Nat has made it bearable, somehow. Far from the usual outcome of her talks with Superstition, but she'll take it.
  151. [01:09] <~Teller|GM> "I'll be back in an hour, hour and a half tops," Nat says. She ties her hair back in a loose ponytail, gives Claire a quick wave, then ducks under the loading dock door and disappears outside. ||

  156. 09[01:23] <tubes|Slither> Claire blows out a breath, moving some haair out of her face. She need a haircut, or some hairclips, or something. Should have mentioned that. Whatever.
  157. 09[01:23] <tubes|Slither> She momentairly shifts to her snake form to get into a better lying down position on the couch and shifts back, insofar as her legs don't act back up. Having run out of necessary things, she was now feeling a need to just...lie down.
  158. 09[01:23] <tubes|Slither> That, at least, was easier than the days when she'd had to work to shift her legs herself, trying to exert the little muscle she'd had left, then feeling depressed every time she failed to do much of anything with whatever was left. Well, easier when she used her power, anyway.
  159. 09[01:23] <tubes|Slither> Claire tries to close her eyes and relax a little. She didn't have anything better to do. ||
