- Chansey is the most important Pokemon in STAAABmons, and by far the best special wall in the format. Chansey most commonly acts as a special wall/pivot, and thanks to its absurd special bulk it has the ability to wall every special attacker that isn't running Psystrike or Secret Sword. Chansey also has a wide utility movepool with many unpredictable options, like Glare and Encore, that make it surprisingly threatening, and not exactly a sitting duck. Unfortunately, Chansey heavily relies on its item, and moves like Knock Off and Trick will cripple it and cause it to take much more damage from opposing attacks. Additionally, Chansey's inability to run Heavy Duty Boots makes it particularly vulnerable to Entry Hazards, chip from which offsets the healing from Regenerator and can lead to Chansey being KOd by powerful wallbreakers.
- Regenerator is the most common ability used, as it synergizes well with Chansey's absurd special bulk (often completely healing off damage from special attackers) and tendency to Teleport/switch out frequently. Magic Bounce is also an excellent option, preventing Chansey from getting Taunted or statused while also acting as excellent hazard deterrent. Unaware can also be used to allow Chansey to beat nearly every special sweeper, even while boosted. Pivot Sets should always run Teleport, and generally run a recovery move, hazard control, and either Seismic Toss or Whirlwind so that it isn't setup bait. Sets focusing on being a special wall can afford to drop teleport in favor of another move.
- Chansey pairs well with physically bulky Pokemon that don't mind switching into Knock Off, like Corviknight, Tapu Fini, and Toxapex. Fini and Toxapex are especially notable partners, as their resistance to Fighting and ability to handle many physical attackers that threaten Chansey allows them to form a great core. Wallbreakers who struggle with entering the battlefield, like Noivern, Gengar, and Victini, greatly appreciate Chansey's ability to pivot out to them, and to clear hazards beforehand. Hazard removers like Corviknight and Tapu Fini also have good synergy with Chansey, as it dislikes taking the extra chip from switching repeatedly.
