  1. [9:52 PM] shadow: Now on to redrawing
  2. [9:57 PM] Senny: those were all my comments
  3. [9:57 PM] shadow: Right
  4. [9:58 PM] shadow: well I don't know about godhood, but I thought my typesetting was better than the redrawing, which comes as a surprise now
  5. [9:58 PM] Senny: heh
  6. [9:58 PM] shadow: I also thought I have a long way before I can take redrawing to a professional level(edited)
  7. [9:58 PM] Senny: its hard for me to judge entirely though
  8. [9:58 PM] Senny: since these raws are lower quality than im used to
  9. [9:58 PM] Senny: so they hide imperfections better
  10. [9:58 PM] shadow: If you're talking sloppy about page 2, that was a nightmare and I hated it
  11. [9:58 PM] shadow: so I just gave up midway
  12. [9:58 PM] Senny: the point is that I see the problems in all of the redraws
  13. [9:59 PM] Senny: but its on a good path
  14. [9:59 PM] shadow: I see problems too yeah
  15. [9:59 PM] shadow: But then again, those pages are one of my first proper redraws
  16. [9:59 PM] shadow: So I still have a long way
  17. [10:00 PM] Senny: itll be easier for my group too, since we mostly only redraw post letter, although I dont think professional manga letterers do this
  18. [10:00 PM] shadow: It's the opposite I think
  19. [10:00 PM] shadow: You redraw after cleaning and letter at the end
  20. [10:00 PM] Senny: so... not the opposite?
  21. [10:00 PM] Senny: we redraw after cleaning and lettering too
  22. [10:01 PM] shadow: letter at the end means it happens after redrawing
  23. [10:01 PM] shadow: it wouldnt be at the end otherwise
  24. [10:01 PM] shadow: engrish
  25. [10:01 PM] Senny: hmmm, bad sentence order then
  26. [10:01 PM] shadow: its correct
  27. [10:01 PM] Senny: misleading
  28. [10:01 PM] Senny: [10:00 PM] shadow: You redraw after cleaning and letter at the end
  29. [10:02 PM] Senny: this makes it sound like redrawing is last
  30. [10:02 PM] Senny: ask literally anyone in my chat
  31. [10:02 PM] shadow: if it was, letter would be lettering
  32. [10:02 PM] Senny: but okay, we got that misunderstanding squared away... maybe.
  33. [10:02 PM] shadow: The two words would be in the same form
  34. [10:02 PM] shadow: but they aren't
  35. [10:02 PM] Senny: Misleading, I rest my case.
  36. [10:03 PM] Senny: You can avoid two interpretations by using a comma after 'and'
  37. [10:03 PM] Senny: without the comma it's open to two different possible ways to parse the sentence.
  38. [10:03 PM] shadow: I'm a grammar nazi so- well that's not entirely correct because commas aren't used before and generally speaking
  39. [10:03 PM] shadow: anyways yes
  40. [10:03 PM] Senny: Hmmmm, lol
  41. [10:04 PM] shadow: the correct thing would be to remove and, then comma it
  42. [10:04 PM] Senny:
  43. [10:04 PM] Senny: That... isn't right.
  44. [10:05 PM] shadow: jesus
  45. [10:05 PM] shadow: ok look
  46. [10:05 PM] Senny: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eats,_Shoots_%26_Leaves
  47. [10:05 PM] shadow: You redraw after cleaning, lettering at the end.
  48. [10:05 PM] shadow: How's this
  49. [10:06 PM] Senny: OK, well if you letter for our group
  50. [10:06 PM] Senny: from that exchange above
  51. [10:06 PM] Senny: I'd say that you don't have enough experience with English grammar.
  52. [10:07 PM] Senny: so if you do make any comments about the grammar of the translation, do it separately for sure.
  53. [10:07 PM] Senny: (as opposed to editing it in)
  54. [10:08 PM] shadow: I'm not sure how to react to this since I can write a million reasons why that isn't true.
  55. [10:08 PM] shadow: Don't take my language skills from an unserious convo.
  56. [10:08 PM] Senny:
  57. [10:10 PM] shadow: If I literally do not punctuate my sentences with a full stop then you can't really say I'm being serious, it's a casual convo after all.
  58. [10:10 PM] Senny: The issue was that I was explaining how the way you wrote a sentence would be parsed in two ways unless you add a comma after and, which would be grammatically correct.
  59. [10:10 PM] shadow: But let's not get this heated, I'll just ignore my wish to argue.
  60. [10:10 PM] Senny: I wasn't expecting you to write correctly.
  61. [10:10 PM] Senny: But I also was surprised to see you call yourself a grammar nazi lol
  62. [10:11 PM] Senny: commas after and's are acceptable, often direly necessary
  63. [10:11 PM] Senny: it just depends on the situation
  64. [10:11 PM] shadow: You didn't read what I said back there.
  65. [10:11 PM] shadow: I said BEFORE and.
  66. [10:12 PM] Senny: I... thought that would be a given. Can you copy-paste where I misread?
  67. [10:12 PM] shadow: I'm a grammar nazi so- well that's not entirely correct because commas aren't used before and generally speaking
  68. [10:12 PM] Senny: That isn't true at all.
  69. [10:13 PM] shadow: I'm not saying it's completely incorrect here.
  70. [10:13 PM] Senny: generally speaking though, they can and are used after and's when it's grammatically necessary.
  71. [10:13 PM] Senny: If you think any other way you are misinformed.
  72. [10:14 PM] Senny: It's not even a difference between GB and US english
  73. [10:14 PM] shadow: But why would you assume that this: You redraw after cleaning and letter at the end. | And this: You redraw after cleaning and lettering at the end. | Are the same thing?
  74. [10:14 PM] Senny: I didn't
  75. [10:14 PM] Senny: xD
  76. [10:14 PM] shadow: But it leads to the same logic by what you're saying.
  77. [10:15 PM] Senny: No... it doesn't
  78. [10:15 PM] shadow: So the second wouldn't be confusing?
  79. [10:16 PM] Senny: cleaning and letter = noun and a verb, cleaning and lettering = noun and noun, so they're connected. the idea would be that both of the actions take place
  80. [10:16 PM] Senny: Anyway, this discussion is leading nowhere
  81. [10:17 PM] shadow: Exactly, you're missing my point, they wouldn't happen both because they are in a different form, therefore the second word doesn't apply to the same action, thefore it's not happening at the same time.
  82. [10:17 PM] Senny: Okay...
  83. [10:17 PM] Senny: We shall agree to disagree.
  84. [10:18 PM] Senny: Show this to any proofreader worth their salt and they will agree with me about the fact that that sentence needed a comma, though.
  85. [10:18 PM] shadow: Anyways, whatever I'm not here to proofread anyway, you can assume I'm clueless or something, I'll let it go.
