- Porter tensed at the sensation of a blaster being pushed into his lower back.
- The Umbaran.
- Light, but he’s a worthy foe.
- “Don’t move, Jedi,” the Nihil hissed in his ear. He leaned close, drawing out the last word. “The Eye wants you and your kind alive. At least for a while.” He sniggered, and it was a disgusting sound, born of treachery and pleasure. “You’ve done me a favor, killing them all like that. Saved me a job. Now I can take Roola’s place without having to answer any difficult questions.”
- “I’m sorry,” said Porter.
- The Umbaran paused, confused. “For what?”
- Porter’s hand turned at the wrist, so that his fingers were splayed. Over by the corpse of the Twi’lek, his lightsaber hilt twitched once, and then flew, flickering through the air at speed, its plasma blade still humming.
- At the last moment Porter dropped to his knees, flicking his wrist so that the lightsaber reversed in the air.
- It buried itself to the hilt in the Umbaran’s chest. He sagged, the blaster tumbling from his still-warm fingers.
- Porter caught him as he fell, a deadweight, and laid him gently on the ground. Then, retrieving his lightsaber, he thumbed it off, slipping it back into his holster.
