Awakening is a process of "opening your eyes", the moment your vision expands and you turn from a regular human to a mage. It could happen at any time, while you stuck in traffic to life threating situations such as drowning in the middle of the sea. Everything suddenly appears to be so much different, like whatever you thought the world is shattered in a single moment and your whole worldview changes. In some other cases, it would slowly build up like a puzzle until suddenly everything makes sense.
Your Avatar appears first the moment you awaken, it could be a friend, an enemy, your lover or anything else. It could be in any shape, from a pink-furred keyboard to a protein shake that switches colors, and it holds the key to mystic understanding and the closer you are to your Avatar the more you understand.

During the seeking the Avatar is challenging the mage to reach to better exellence, expand her knowledge and get further towards the goal of ascension. The Avatar presents a challenge that the mage should pass through, It could be facing your fears, resolving a mystery, discovering more about yourself, embracing who you are and so on... If the mage passes the test successfully the Avatar would grant the mage more understanding of her magick. However, if she fails she stay stuck in the same place until she manages to pass the test.

Resonance is the side-effect of the magick, you can think of it as a trail that is echoing the magick of the mage and the intentions behind it. In some cases, it could disrupt the reality. For example, a mage that is constantly using the Life Sphere could make plants and trees die or sprout, depending on what he's using the Sphere for most of the time.
Synergy is similar to Resonance. However, it happens to objects or places. For example, when a wizard is constantly using magick in his house the whole place might get Synergy, the more magick he would use the more intense the Synergy would be, and other mages could sense that.

In order to explain what Backlash is, Paradox should be explained first.
Paradox could be "earned" through the use of magick, it happens when the mage does stuff that goes against the reality. Vulgar magick is known to be the ensured way to gain Paradox, botches upon casting magick would lead to Paradox as well. Now you can think of Paradox as an introvert person. When you piss off an introvert person they won't slap you right in the face, but at some point if you cross the line they would discharge all of their anger at you in one moment. So is the Paradox, once your Paradox goes over 5 there's a chance for a Backlash. The Backlash is the moment of Paradox discharge, the more Paradox you have the more dangerous the backlash would be, and it could turn the mage's life into hell. As they say, there are no free rides. Magick is a double bladed knife, You can stab the reality all you want, but at some point you'll figure that you've cut your own hands the same moment.

Foci is another word for Focus and its components are Paradigm, Practice, and Instruments.
Focus stands for the combination of the mage's belief, the way that she cast the magick and the tools that she uses in order to do it.
Paradigm is the belief of the mage, how he'd see reality and how he'd see the way to "bypass" the consensus in order to cast magick. The Paradigm would change from Tradition to another due to obvious reasons, for example a Virtual Adept's way to cast magick would definitely not be by praying to ancient Goddesses or performing rituals using herbs. And Dreamspeaker's way would definitely not be through believing it's all in the code.
Practice would be the way the mage cast her magick through. In other words, what she is going to do in order to do that, it could be through Yoga, Herbalism, Witchcraft,
Instruments are the tools the mage use in order to cast her magick, it could be cards, herbs, bones, body parts, brews and the list goes on... it doesn't have to be physical though. It could also be a dance, a song, a prayer or anything like that.

Also the mage might work without Focus sometimes, he can work through determination alone, but it has a cost of a Willpower point and +3 difficulty.

Ascension (System-wise) is the moment a mage reaches Arete 10, it's the moment the mage maximize her knowledge. At this point, the mage won't need any instrument as she can simply cast magick with the force of her will.
In-game term it could be a higher state of existence, exceeding the capability of the humanity. Some might even see this as an ultimate of the control of the consensus while some might believe such power doesn't even exist, just a myth from the legends.

It was another calm spring afternoon on the streets of Los Santos, the wind blows on Kaito's face as he riding his bike towards the house of his grandmother. He kept pedaling his bike while thoughts about school crossed his mind as he had a slight frown on his face. Everything seems to be just perfect until he was crossing the road and out of the sudden a black Audi crashed him, The crash was powerful, the bike completely broke and Kaito just flew off the bike. Suddenly everything turned black and Kaito sank in deep thoughts, he felt like the time froze and he entered into a dream. Suddenly he sees himself in the middle of a void, he was looking around and suddenly he saw a wooden door. Kaito got closer to the door as he felt that someone was tapping on his back, it was his Father. "Dad?" he said, "Son, do you have any idea where you are?" the father replied, "No, what is this place?" he asked while having a fearful expression on his face. "Worry not, you're about to find the truth. The world isn't the black and white one you knew, Open that door and you'll see by yourself." the father said as he suddenly disappeared out of thin air. Kaito didn't have much of a choice but to open the door and what he saw there was through the eyes of a person who's being lifted on a stretcher into an ambulance. He stepped through the door and came back to reality, finding out he's that one in the ambulance while hearing in the background "Thank god, we got him". In one moment the whole worldview of Kaito has changed, everything seemed so much different. He sensed many stuff he would never pay attention to before, from the flow of the electricity in the streetlights to the waves of the radio of the ambulance. 10 minutes later they arrived at the hospital and Kaito got his own room, not a while passed and one of the doctors came into his room and represented himself as Haru. He said "I know what happened, it's probably confusing huh?", "Getting rammed by a car could be confusing I guess" Kaito replied. Haru smirked a bit and said "Yeah, that could be confusing as well, but I'm talking about your strange dream, and how everything suddenly seems so much different" and gave him a devilish smile. Kaito started sweating and said "Who are you? what do you want?", Haru gave him a note with an address and told him "It's okay, I'm here to help you. Visit me when you're out of here" and he left the room. Three days later Kaito got out of the hospital and went to visit Haru at the address on the note. He knocked on the door and surprisingly the door just opened by itself, but nobody was there to welcome him. He stepped inside, straight into the hallway. Everything seemed to be so pretty, the whole place had the vibe of a huge library, yet fancy and well decorated. He kept walking down the hallway as he heard voices that came out of one of the rooms, he stepped inside and saw a bunch of people including Haru sitting in front of a big wooden table talking about stuff that made no sense. As they spotted him they immediately invited him to the table and they represented themselves as a part of the Council of Nine Mystic Traditions, they had a long detailed conversation about everything, from the transition he's passing to the Technocracy and the many years of Ascension War. Haru used as Kaito's mentor, he never went easy on him, but he knew that's gonna lead him to excellence and amazing results.
Two years later Haru decided to move to Palomino Creek, a small county that isn't too far from Los Santos, but would definitely be calmer and quieter. Kaito definitely wanted to keep being under Haru's, therefore he decided to say goodbye to his family and move with Haru.

Using a Coindicental magick could be performed anywhere anytime, it's pretty much stuff that seems acceptable and pretty natural even if they happen in front of your eyes such as making an apple fall on someone's head while they're sitting under an apple tree.
Using Vulgar magick such as shooting fireballs, turning a werewolf into an apple and other obvious things that seem way too unnatural or impossible should be used in life threating situations or emergencies, there are no free rides in this kind of magick. The further it is from the reality the higher the cost, and it burns.

The Consensus these days grants the Technocracy a huge advantage over the Traditions, they got their pioneers everywhere and they are lurking all over around. You can't know who's what and who you can trust, not to mention sometimes people spit stuff out, even if they don't mean to. <name> would try to avoid revealing his nature to anyone but his fellow magi friends from the Traditions. He can't stay alone after all, but he is definitely suspicious when it's coming to strangers.
In addition, the Technocracy is not the only threat. It's natural that even large groups of the sleepers won't like the idea that SOMEONE would hold such power, and they might take him down for it.

<name>'s Paradigm is Might is Right, his Practices are Alchemy and Witchcraft and Symbols would be a part of his Instruments.
In that case, he might want to turn wooden planks into Iron planks. He could draw a symbol of an arrow for example which would represent the transition of the material of the object from wood into Iron, then he would concentrate to willwork the effect into reality.
