  1. The world of Nobella was like any other planet. Before the land was shifted into the skies, everything was set within the ocean. During these times, things were not only primitive, but magic was far from advanced, and likewise, just as savage. Man is the dominant species here, but not because they are innately powerful, but because they have the ability to take that power from others. Not only that, but compared to the other races, man is ridiculously numerous; simply due to the nature of souls.
  2.
  3. You see, man used to be a lot more populous. In fact, once upon a time, man was the only race you could really find across the world...that is, until their gods decided to 'spice things up'.
  4.
  5. Man doesn't really follow a god. In fact, they dislike many gods revered on this world, but one day, the vast quantities of souls lost eventually began manifesting themselves into beings that are collectively referred to as 'spirits'; different creatures of all types began to walk this planet. From ghostly apparitions to ravenous beasts, these monstrous creatures were substantially stronger than a single man...at least, that is until Viloros, the first man, discovered a dangerous (and powerful) secret.
  6.
  7. You see, beasts and creatures, as it turns out, can be slain to manifest into valuable goods. Be it a powerful artifact or weapon of war, or something to sell on the market for a quick buck, man had eventually rose to fight back the creatures, and to this day, still war with the spirits found throughout the world.

  9.
  10. You're either a human, or a special spirit born with a human soul; that is the ability to absorb slain creatures for more power. Be wary, though. If you're a spirit or notably unusual, chances are, you'll be hunted down and poached.

  16. FOR YOU RELIGIOUS CHARACTERS
  17.
  18. Religion in Nobella is all strictly based around self-worship. At least, that's how the humans work. They believe that they're the first rightful race to have been placed on the planet, and that whatever entity created them had died the day the first spirit began to walk the earth. As humans died more, their souls manifested into restless spirits.
  19.
  20. The Church believes that all spirits are manifestations of lost souls, and thus, must be put to death to free their souls into the next stage of life; reincarnation.
  21.
  22.
  23. The spirits actually venerate several greater spirits; dragons, to be precise. Each dragon is based around a type of animal, but due to WIP purposes, they aren't all finished. Ask the DM if you really want to know about the dragon spirits.

  29. OTHER BACKGROUND STUFF/HOW THE NATIONS WORK
  30.
  31. Humanity rules over most of the land. They pretty much control the western and eastern continents. All human nations are bound together beneath one ruler. Rulership is determined through bloodline; the emperor selects a heir to inherit his rulership. Humans are all closely knit and try to work together due to the spirits possessing significantly greater power over them, however, due to the human soul having the ability to steal power, they've ended up dominating the spirit population.
  32.
  33.
  34. Spirits are widespread and form their own settlements throughout the human nations, but try to seclude themselves from humans due to the danger they pose. Spirits are known to usually pose a threat to humans however, as many tend to be ravenous or overly cautious.
  35.
  36. As of now, the only real 'Kingdom' of Spirits takes place in the middle continent; their ruler is King Pera.
