Ohayocon Information <3

 I talk about Ohayocon a lot, so I figured I’d throw this out there if any of y’all are interested. Staff applications have opened for Ohayocon (you have to be 18+ by the first day of the convention). Last year I made a lot of close friends and had a blast (despite not expecting how much work my department would be). Sadly, there is no guarantee you’ll be accepted however I do believe there is a pretty high chance of you being accepted.

If you are accepted it’s a free hotel room, free food (it’s kind of nasty…I was not a fan of the food last year and relied on the restaurants within the convention center) and free attendance. On Sunday after we take everything down we go to a restaurant called “BD’s Mongolian Grill” which is basically create your own stir fry restaurant and dinner is free. There’s also some fun raffles where you can get some free nerdy shit (I got a creeper doll).

I worked in ORT (which stand for Ohayocon Response Team, which is security) but there are other departments that are just as nice. ORT is rather taxing and is set up in 12 hour shifts (not sure how the other departments work). I work the night shift which is from 8pm to 8am, and it gets slow at certain points. I made some amazing friends and ended up having a great time.

If you decide to apply I do believe there is an area where you put the name of the staff member who referred you. Put Mary Schreiber/Sassy (as Sassy is my call sign and I’m pretty sure my department heads know me as that more than they know me as Mary? ). If you guys pick to work in ORT (we get our own rooms, other departments are all mixed together) you can put me down as someone you want to room with. I left all my spots blank because I dunno who out of my friends group is going, and I pretty much know all the veteran ORT people.
