  16. HOME COUNTRY | Yvia + Varos
  17. ° he moved to Yvia to escape his parents and to go to a better caster school, but he didn’t go to Varos because of VIM (since VIM never attended a magic school, I thought it would be best for them to not move to the country most known for its magic schools, but still with a decent amount of casters)
  18. ° again, can be changed to match VIM’s form
  19. ° he moved to Varos after people found out he was an incubus. 38. “ ABOUT ”
  39.
  40.
  41. BACKGROUND |
  42. Tendu was born to wealth. For generations, the Joanes, his maternal family, has been involved in the slave trade. Tendu or his father, Malri, never knew about it, nor did their mother never decide it was in their benefit to tell them. Sonya, his mother, never worked too closely in the “family business,” anyway, choosing to simply live off of the wealth. Nonetheless, growing up, Tendu had the trifecta of traits to make people love him: the looks, the money, and the charm (it came naturally from his incubus nature). Life could have been so easy for him, but he hated all of it. He hated that everything was given to him or that he could ask nearly anyone for anything and he’d get it. Nothing felt earned or deserved.
  43.
  44. He blamed most of this on being an incubus, as he assumed their family was rich because of their succubus/incubus powers. He’s grown to hate what he is, and has desperately tried to pretend he was human. When he was a twelve, he did everything he could to get rid of his good looks and body, the number one sign of an incubus. He ate terribly, but all that did was make him throw up multiple times a week. He would get into fights or take a knife to his skin or hit his arms and legs on the doorframe, but he healed too well and too quickly that nothing ever lasted or scarred and it often took too more pain than he could handle to even mark himself up. Sometimes, all that would come out of it was attracting more of the girls at school with the “bad boy” look. His mother never noticed him doing this; she barely noticed him at all.
  45.
  46. Tendu got a lot of attention because of what and who he was and he came to dread it. He developed social anxiety at a very young age (it began when he was nine). It’s not like he could get ever get treatment for it, he didn’t really have anyone to tell. He hated his parents, because they embodied everything he hated (they used every aspect of their species to their advantage, always flaunted their wealth and success, they never seemed to have anything...real to them behind all of the money and beauty). He only had one true friend, because all of the others were using him for his money or were drawn to him because, I mean, who wouldn’t be drawn to an incubus? VIM was the only one he could tell, but, even then, he only ever mentioned it once, for fear it would get found out. Tendu always worried about what his parents would do if they found out about it. They were already disappointed in him due to his lack of enthusiasm with anything remotely flamboyant. He learned to bury his emotions deep, for fear of the world finding out and risking staining the family name his parents tried so hard to protect.
  47.
  48. His father actually had social anxiety, as well. Not that anyone would ever guess. Malri’s way of dealing with it was similar to Tendu’s: lock it up and throw away the key. He was the kinda man who believed that people would latch onto any weakness you had and would use it to destroy you. He was always extra loud, extra confident, he made sure he was the center of attention so that nobody would know he was secretly dying inside. This was why he was so harsh on Tendu about being the perfect child. He had always known, somehow, that Tendu was struggling with the same thing, and he wasn’t about to let his child slip up and be thrown to the wolves. And it’s not like he could simply talk to his son about it, that wasn’t how he was supposed to act. He had to be the tough, unemotional man everyone expected him to be.
  49.
  50. When Tendu was twelve, his father died in a fire at one of his art expositions. That was kind of the last straw for Tendu. While his father hadn’t really been present, he hadn’t been absent, either. He would always leave the door open for Tendu to sit and watch him paint and would take him to expositions or bookstores and would leave him lunch during the days Tendu wasn’t at school and would buy him books on his birthday. It was much better than Sonya, who could barely remember Tendu existed. Tendu had to get out, he couldn’t stay in the giant house he didn’t earn with a mother who only cared for himself.
  51. He threw himself into his studies. He was smart, god he was smart. He had always been the top student, but now he had to be the best. School would be his way out. Sure, he could probably use his family money to get into a school, but that would go against everything he stood for. This he could earn.
  52.
  53. Tendu was thirteen when he found out he was a caster. He had been able to control fire to a slight degree and manipulate people, but he dismissed those because he was an incubus. This—this was much more than incubus powers. He had gotten into a fight with his mother, who was trying to force him to go to a ball with her the night before a big test. He had been beyond angry, in that way only teenagers can be, at the fact that here she was, once again trying to make him into the perfect little obedient showpony and to force him to be like her and flaunt their wealth and power. He had yelled, and the vase behind them shattered.
  54.
  55. Sonya was ecstatic. She had only ever paid attention to her some when she had something to gain from it, and having a caster son was definitely something she could show off. She immediately got him accepted into the top school in Varos, using her wealth to get him accepted. She even held a party in honor of him becoming a caster and for his acceptance, but Tendu wasn’t there. He was at his school, taking the entrance exam for a caster school in Yvia. They accepted him that day, along with one other girl from a different school. He snuck back into his house, avoiding the party, packed his belonging, and left that day. He left a note, explaining that he was going to a caster school, but that was more for the sake of the maid than anything else (while she never risked Sonya's anger by outright caring for him, she always baked him cookies and hugged him after he had had a bad day). He somehow managed to convince the person who was taking them to let VIM ride with them. VIM was the only person Tendu really had, and vice versa.
  56.
  57. [ I don’t really know what to do about VIM in this part. Maybe he’s secretly living in Tendu’s dorm, maybe he’s on the street. I can edit this later, but, for now, I’m going to leave it so as not to write all of VIM’s background in Tendu’s form ]
  58.
  59. He kept to himself throughout his life as a student. The attention of everyone had driven him to become an introvert, and he never particularly trusted people, because he never knew whether their motives were pure or if they were just being his friend because of some sex demon attraction hormones he was unconsciously throwing out all of the time. Instead, he just focused on school. He wouldn’t talk during classes, he’d hide in the library until curfew, then keep working back in his room. The only time he ever broke pattern was to spend time with VIM or slip into one of the school parties in order to get some kind of intimate contact (when he was younger, he only needed to be around a lot of people for a while, but, as time went on, he had to get physically closer and closer to people to get the same energy) so as to not die from withdrawals. He taught VIM a lot about magic. Tendu loved sharing and VIM, for whatever reason, wasn’t going to a caster school, as well.
  60.
  61. He tried his hardest to keep his species a secret. Sure, the school had to know, that was a given, but he had asked them to be secretive with the information. He did well, until he was sixteen, when someone managed to find out and spread it around. Sure, he had always gotten attention at school, he couldn’t help it, but it got much worse when people found out what he was. He had to give up his spot in the library during the last few months of school for the privacy of his room.
  62.
  63. VIM and Tendu moved to Varos when that year of school ended, and he repeated it all again. The silence, the libraries, the keeping his head down. He truly enjoys learning, so that made life worth it. But, everything else was never fun. He was always worried someone would start talking to him and he wouldn’t know how to respond. His parents had engrained within him that he always had to be the best he could be and to talk confidently and without worry, but he just couldn’t do that and that scared him so much. Group projects were his worst fear, because he never knew when he would get stuck doing all of the work or having to repeatedly explain things to someone.
  64.
  65. He knew he had to do something about his social anxiety. As much as it scared him to face it, it scared him for to end up like his father, unable to tell his son, “I love you” and constantly in fear of someone finding out. Starting to make friends at school was a no. He wasn’t looking to tackle his trust issues just yet, but he wanted to feel more comfortable in the classrooms or libraries.
  66.
  67. Tendu was seventeen when he got his first job. There was a bookstore he’d always go to when the school’s library was no help. One day, he overheard the owner, Rina (a sweet old lady who would always silently hand him books she somehow knew he would like) complaining about needing help around the shop. So, in maybe the third conversation they had had in the years he had been coming to the shop, he asked if she had ever considered hiring someone (he was quite proud of himself for not fumbling over his words or looking stupid).
  68.
  69. He was hired on the spot. He was a bit shocked at that, but, I mean, he had been in there enough to know the place like the back of his hand and had never really acted like a hooligan in there, so Rina figured he couldn’t be that bad of an employee. And he really wasn’t. He kept the place spotless, never struggled with organizing anything, and always knew how to help people. Sure, the customer service part of it definitely was a struggle at first. Sometimes, he would have trouble figuring out what to say, and would just kinda nod, disappear, and come back with a book. But he did get better. It took about a year or so, but he became very comfortable with customer service, even having the confidence to smile and greet anyone who came in or made (some) conversation with the regulars about the books they had read. And, boy, did having him working there help business. It was like a medieval fantasy Abercrombie & Fitch, except with books and Tendu had more clothes on. Of course, this didn’t “cure” his anxiety in any way, but it certainly helped. No longer was he deathly afraid of any kind of social interaction. It also helped him to get closer with VIM, by giving him more confidence in himself and his words to talk with him more. He had always been close with VIM and had always trusted him, but this allowed him to let himself have a bit more fun and relax more around him.
  70.
  71. After Rina’s daughter moved to another country for her job, Rina gave him the small apartment above the bookstore. He loved that, because, I mean, how could he not love literally living in a bookstore?
  72.
  73. Tendu was eighteen when he met his familiar, Atlas. He was taking a walk through the forest (while this is normal for him now, but, at the time, it only ever happened because Rina yelled at him that he needed sunlight otherwise he was going to get so pale she’d have to bring in the priest to exorcise him), when he heard rustling in the bushes. Being naturally curious (and somewhat airheaded), he stuck his hand in to move the leaves out of the way. Something bit it. He jerked his bleeding hand away, but still tried to move the leaves back, more carefully this time. There, in the middle of the branches, was a teeny coatimundi baby. He looked starved and his back leg, broken. Because of some random late night reading, Tendu knew coatis were pack animals and usually had more than one kits, so he guess his mother had left this one behind because of his leg. Rina was fine with animals, Tendu knew that, because her daughter had had a cat and casters always brought their familiars into the shop, so, Tendu decided, “Fuck it,” and wrapped the baby up in his jacket.
  74.
  75. The first week with the two of them was a mess. Tendu had obviously never raised a kid (at this point, he had never actually had sex, either) and his parents never allowed him to get a pet. He was lost on what to do with it, and coatis were few and far between in Yvia enough that there wasn’t some readily available “How to Raise a Coati” handbook lying around. It only took him two hours of trying to coax Atlas to eat...well, Tendu tried everything in the cabinets and the cooler, before he realized he was young enough to need milk. It took him two days, on the other hand, to get a bottle that didn’t result in him getting covered in milk after Atlas pulled off the
  76. nipple and spilled everything. There was also a lot of blood. Coatis have very sharp nails and teeth as babies, so, not only was Tendu trying to feed his little thing with a cast bigger than it a bottle with a nipple that didn’t seal properly, but he was doing it in oven mitts. Yeah, a mess.
  77.
  78. Eventually, it got less messy and they fought each other less. It was by the third week that Tendu had actually fallen in love with Atlas. He had just eaten an entire bottle (his first one where he didn’t spill anything or get his mouth covered in milk) and had fallen sound asleep in Tendu’s lap. It was also then that Tendu realized Atlas was his familiar. He had been to plenty familiar shops, but he had never felt that “bond” all of the salesmen talked about. Not until now.
  79.
  80. A few months later, he graduated top of his class in test grades and quite high up there when it came to magic tests. Now legally a fully-fledged wizard, he didn’t really know what to do with himself. There wasn’t school to throw himself into whenever he felt bored or worried or anxious. He felt like he was lacking direction. He still had the shop, yes, but it had begun to feel almost empty, as did the rest of him.
  81.
  82. Tendu rapidly became depressed. VIM was ecstatic to have more time to spend with his best friend, but Tendu just couldn’t find the energy to be happy, too, which only made him feel worse. If VIM was happy, he should be, too, right?
  83.
  84. Tendu stopped going outside, except for when he needed food. No walks, no libraries, no going to buy new books for the store, nothing. He was starving for contact, becoming much weaker, more tired, more irritable, getting more headaches and feeling sick to his stomach when he even thought of food. He dismissed it as simply side effects of the depression because he had never truly been starving before. Sure, he’d gone a while without contact at times in the past, but never like this. He had barely even seen another person, let alone kiss or have sex, in three weeks.
  85.
  86. When VIM finally managed to get him out of the bookstore, Tendu barely looked like an incubus and his powers were glitching badly. He had deep, dark circles under his eyes, unlike anything he could have ever even thought of having, his lips were chapped beyond belief, and he was throwing off this terrible intimidating aura that was even making VIM anxious.
  87.
  88. VIM managed to get Tendu into a tavern without the latter scaring too many people. VIM was determined to get him laid, because that’s all he could think of to get his friend out of this funk. But, as always, life had other plans.
  89.
  90. They had barely gotten their first drink when some big dude started harassing the girl sitting next to them. Tendu isn’t usually one to step in (unless it gets serious), but he was much, much more irritable than usual tonight. He snapped at him to leave her alone, and, dumb and prideful as that guy was, he got in Tendu’s face. Tendu reached for his magic, aiming to give this guy enough terror that run and never look back, not again thinking ever harassing anyone again.
  91.
  92. I think I’ve already mentioned that he doesn’t have much control over his powers when he’s starving. Yeah, this was definitely a case of that.
  93.
  94. It wasn’t fear he got, it was fire.
  95.
  96. It was fire, in a tavern, right next to the bar with all of the alcohol. And it wasn’t just any fire, it was magic fire. It was fueled only by oxygen, heat, and fuel, but Tendu’s emotions, so, right now, this fire was running on pure sorrow and hate and frustration and every single goddamn destructive emotion there is.
  97.
  98. The bottle of vodka sitting on the counter next to him exploded in flames, sending glass and fire flying.
  99.
  100. He couldn’t stop it, he wa too damn exhausted to do anything about it, no matter how much he fought to get a grip on his magic, it all kept burning.
  101.
  102. More glasses and bottles exploded. People began to scream and run for the doors, shoving over one another to get to safety. It wasn’t easy, not with half of them being drunk out of their wits.
  103.
  104. Tendu watched the chaos, the girl he was protecting trying to run out, but not being strong enough to make it through the crowd, the face of the guy in front of him contorting in pain at the flames that had caught onto his jacket, VIM, who was trying to pull him out.
  105.
  106. He collapsed.
  107.
  108. He slept for a week, or so he was told later. VIM never left his side (he never apologized for eating all of Tendu’s food during that week, either).
  109.
  110. Tendu woke up feeling like he was dead. He had no energy, his head felt like a dozen horses had run it over, there were terrible burns all along his left arm and up to his shoulder. Hell, after he found out what had happened (he dragged it out of VIM by playing the pity card), he wished he was. The fire had gotten weaker when Tendu collapsed, but that didn’t mean it stopped. There were no more emotions to fuel it, but there was still all of the wood and alcohol. The tavern was ruined, the entire back half of it was destroyed. Dozens were injured, either by the fire or the rush to safety.
  111.
  112. And one person, the man Tendu had snapped at, died. Tendu’s burns healed a week after he woke up, not even leaving a scar. The man never came back to life.
  113.
  114. A lot happened in the next week, but Tendu doesn’t remember it well. He kind of...dazed through it all, letting VIM take the lead in their life and take care of everything. He was unfeeling to do anything but comply to everything VIM told him to do. He didn’t say a single word that entire week. VIM somehow managed to get him someone who jumped at the chance of having sex with an incubus. Tendu was so out of it, he doesn’t even remember if it was a girl or a guy. Tendu had to meet with the sheriff, owner of the tavern, and sister of the man who died, the man he killed. They saw what it had done to it, and took pity on him, deciding not to jail him or anything drastic. VIM offered to pay for as much of the damages as they could, which drained most of Tendu’s and VIM’s savings, but it was needed.
  115.
  116. He does remember one thing, though, from that week. He remembers seeing a crow following him everywhere he went. Sitting on the tree outside his window, the bench across the street from the bookstore, flying above VIM and Tendu as they walked to their meeting. It took Tendu a few days to remember where he had seen her before (each day, more and more details about that night were becoming clearer). She had been with the man Tendu yelled at. She was literally chained to him, around her foot was a too-small band, welded to a chain that connected to him at the shoulder. He figured she must have barely gotten away from the fire, only when the chain melted could she save herself. He also assumed she had been his familiar (in his depression, he had forgotten familiars often die when their casters die), and was stalking Tendu in order to get revenge for her master’s death.
  117.
  118. That wasn’t at all what happened. VIM had been out getting groceries, instructing Atlas to keep Tendu in his room (he was worried what Tendu would do, based on how he was acting so...apathetic), and she flew up to the window. Tendu thought she wanted to hurt him, badly. He also though he should let her.
  119.
  120. He opened the window, and she flew in, going over to sit on his desk. A little cautious now, his natural instincts to run away from the wild animal trying to cut through the fog of his lack of care, he slowly sat in his desk chair.
  121.
  122. This close to her, he could see the scars. Deep ones, around her ankles, shallower on her shoulders and back, a very deep one across her chest. She was missing feathers in places, the white-pink scars peeking through clearly. She didn't attack him. Instead, she carefully nuzzled her head against her hand. Looking at her, looking at how she had been abused by that man, his chest hurt. The first true emotion he had felt since he had woken up.
  123.
  124. Tendu started crying, and he didn’t stop for a long time. Not when Atlas crawled into his lap, not when VIM came home and wrapped Tendu in his arms, not until the sun had long since set and the three around him had fallen asleep.
  125.
  126. He woke up feeling better the next morning. He wasn’t “cured,” not in anyway. But he didn’t feel like nothing was real anymore. He felt ready to try again. To try to be the better person he needs to be, to push away his incubusness in order to work ever harder. He is a lot more negative more, a lot more pessimistic, especially when it comes to him being an incubus, because he will never be able to forget what having fire abilities that come so naturally to him can do. He’s learned more that he has to keep a lock on his emotions, for fear that he will lose control of them again. He doesn’t attribute what happened that night to him suppressing his species, but to him being that species and to him not having enough of a grip over his emotions and over his magic to stay in control.
  127.
  128. Although that all happened over a century ago, it’s still fresh in his mind (especially because he sees it every night when he goes to sleep). Nothing really major has happened to him to make him rethink the choices he made after that experience or anything more for him to grow as a person. He hasn’t given himself the chance to reevaluate his beliefs, nor has he had any kind of catalyst that has pushed him to do so.
  129.
  130. [ Again, I can always revise my form once you have VIM’s form, if you want. ]
  131.
  132.
  133. PERSONALITY |
  134.
  135. 1 | I’LL JUST HIDE IN MY CAVE, THANKS — Tendu is an introvert at heart, he always has been. He’s not the biggest fan of people because they can stress him out very quickly. It started from some minor trauma of being forced through dinner parties and dances when he was a boy, so...people in general have a negative connotation for him. They represent all of the high standards and superficiality that he grew up around. Sure, there are times when he can enjoy himself around people, but he’s always worried that none of it is real, for them, that they’re just around him because they’re naturally drawn to him and what he is. He hates attention, because he never knows if he’s getting it for something he earned or something he was born with. Staying at home or hiding in the back of a dark library is much safer. Books don’t judge people.
  136.
  137. 2 | BUT LIBRARIES CAN BE FUN, TOO — VIM knows about his social anxiety, which is why he often drags him out of the house. While he doesn’t push him too much or too often, he knows that it’s healthy to get him out every once in a while, especially considering Tendu would literally be starving himself by staying in all of the time. And, although Tendu does complain very loudly and very often as VIM in dragging him somewhere and when they’re going back home, he actually does have fun when they’re out. He knows how to let himself just forget about all of his worries, especially if they’re in a big group, where he can just sit back and listen to everyone without having to worry about making any kind of response, or if they’re at a club or party of some kind, where he can soak up all of the energy he’s getting from the people around him. Incubi are meant to be social creatures, so it’s in his nature to eventually forget about how uncomfortable he is and to have fun. Whenever he’s been out having fun for a while, he gets much more confident and talkative. He has kind of forced himself into being this silent, lonesome character, but that’s not how he’s meant to be. Any other backstory, and he would have become much more like VIM: happy and energetic. And that’s where he ends up during a social event. Sure, he’s utterly uncomfortable and shy and just wanting to go home, at first, but he gets into it. That’s one of the reasons why he lets himself go. Although he doesn’t want to admit it and says it’s only for the energy, he knows he needs it and enjoys it.
  138.
  139. 3 | CURIOSITY MAY HAVE KILLED THE CAT, BUT TENDU’S STILL ALIVE — Tendu loves to learn and his curiosity is never satisfied. If this was modern times, he’d be that one dude with the fifty open tabs on his laptop and a hundred more bookmarked. He’s the kind of person to know a lot about a lot, especially the most obscure things that you’d only find at the back of the library (often because he had to hide in the very back corner because the people were sitting closer and closer to him at the front tables). He wrote the longest essays while in school, because he would go off on a lot of tangents and explain everything in detail. Also, he hates when people won’t recognize when they’re incorrect. If someone says something stupid or wrong, he always gets really fidgety and can’t stop thinking about it. He would never usually say anything, but sometimes, VIM will notice and direct everyone’s attention to him, then sit back and watch as Tendu lectures them all. He can’t stand when he doesn't know something, either. It’s gets on his nerves and he himself almost feels incomplete until he finds it out.
  140.
  141. 4 | BUILD A WALL — Tendu doesn’t like emotions and he doesn’t trust people. That’s kind of the perfect combination for him to bury everything deep. Sure, he does let VIM see him at some of his lowest and he does share a lot with him, but, even then, he can’t share everything because Tendu doesn’t even let himself acknowledge everything. He doesn’t want have to deal with his emotions, because he doesn’t like what they are. He doesn’t want to recognize them, because that would make him real and making them real would be painful. At the core of it, he’s miserable, but he doesn’t want to. He thinks that, if he pushes his emotions away, they’ll go away, that none of it will be true and he can keep pretending that he’s fine, just as he was taught to. Show no weakness, right?
  142.
  143. 5 | APPARENTLY, SEX DEMONS AREN’T ATTRACTED TO THEMSELVES — He hates what he is, there’s no question about that. The only incubi/succubi he’s been exposed to have been his parents and who ever was invited to their parties, so it’s not like he’s had good examples of his species. He’s seen nothing except them being greedy and selfish, and he hates that. He hates the fact that he has to take advantage of people just to survive and that everyone automatically loves him. He doesn’t feel like he can be himself, so long as he’s an incubus. The reason he started studying his ass off was to stop from being “only the pretty one” (and to avoid people, but, ya know). He is a big believer in the idea that people should have to work to earn love and respect, that whatever they’re born with shouldn’t be an automatic win or lose. That’s kind of why he likes the idea that anyone can be a caster, but they have to work to become a wizard. He has this desire to prove himself, thinking that, if he doesn’t, he’s no worse than his mother or her friends, that he deserves to hate himself if he can make himself into something more. This is honestly a major reason why he’s so negative all of the time, it’s not healthy for him to be literally fighting himself. He sees himself as cursed with a healthy body, but that’s just in looks. When it comes down to it, he’s not healthy. He’s starving himself half of the time as he tries to smother his genetics. He has so much more potential, but he just can’t bring himself to see if, because he doesn’t think the best people could ever be incubi.
  144.
  145. 6 | DON’T UNLEASH THE BEAST — He may be soft-spoken and near-silent 99% of the time, but he can be the center of attention if he has to. Although he hates using his powers, he can draw on that incubus intimidation or charm or attraction if he ever needs to. He does know how to stand up for himself, he’s not a pushover in anyway, he just tries to avoid situations where he could get pushed-over. But, no, if he needs people to listen to him, they will listen. If he needs people to be scared of it, well, they will fear him unlike any other.
  146.
  147. FAMILY |
  148. → Malri Lux | 39 (at death) | dead | incubus, non-caster | painter | father | 2
  149. ° died in a fire at an art showcase when Tendu was 13
  150. → Sonya Lux | 146 | alive | succubus, non-cater | unemployed | mother | 1
  151. ° her family was quite wealthy due to reasons Tendu doesn’t know (they deal in underground slave trades, selling slaves to incubi and succubi, especially), so she never decided to take up an actual job. She does, on the other hand, sometimes help out with the “family business”
  152. ° although Malri and Sonya had an open relationship while Malri was alive, Sonya has never taken one of her suitors as a second husband
  153.
  154. → Mireille Hyuul | 144 | alive | succubus, non-caster | slave trader | aunt | 1
  155. ° has a husband (Alzen), a wife (Dari), a daughter (Rye), and a son (Unio)
  156. → Lazri Joane | 149 | alive | incubus, caster | slave trader | uncle | 1
  157. ° has a husband (Vale) and an adopted daughter (Priya)
  158. → Tendu doesn’t know his aunts, uncles, and cousins very well. After he moved away to go to a caster school, he lost contact with his family
  159.
  160. CONDITIONS, DISORDERS, ETC. |
  161. → night terrors > he’s gotten night terrors ever since the night he burned down the tavern (mostly about that night, sometimes about losing VIM, his pets, the bookshop, or about his parents). His symptoms: waking up suddenly from sleep (he usually just doesn’t go back to sleep after them) with a tight chest, a quick heartbeat, and a lot of anxiety; screaming, crying, and/or thrashing during sleep (he doesn’t always scream, though, it’s usually only when he night terrors are very short or at the end, but he has had to magically soundproof his bedroom because of it); sometimes, he continues to hallucinate for a bit after he wakes, like seeing fires burning down his bedroom or the man standing at the foot of his bed); he’s basically inconsolable when he wakes, usually just grabbing onto Atlas or VIM, when he’s here, for a while, then getting up and trying to drown himself in research or reorganizing; he remembers what happened in the night terror, unless he falls asleep; he doesn’t usually sleepwalk, but it has happened, and usually Atlas has to bite at his ankles to wake him up. His night terrors always happen about an hour and a half after he’s fallen asleep, so they’re not easy to avoid but just sleeping less and last anywhere from 5-20 minutes.
  162. ° one treatment method that’s been tried has helped has been waking up the person 15-30 minutes before night terrors occur. Tendu doesn’t know this, but I felt like it could be useful to mention
  163. ° http://www.nightterrors.org
  164. → social anxiety > his social anxiety is much better now, but he still gets nervous easily when the conversation is mostly about him or if he feels like he’s not responding in the right way. He’s pretty comfortable in groups and with short conversation (like during customer service), but feels a lot of pressure to act correctly and interested and present himself properly when he’s having long conversations one-on-one with anyone who isn’t VIM. He always ends up exhausted after having to socialize, no matter whether a large group customer service, or a one-on-one conversation (except, of course, with VIM).
  165.
  166. LIKES |
  167. ° history > he adores all subjects, and has gone through a phase of loving each one a little bit more, but history has been his all-time favorite
  168. ° animals > they’re just so...pure to him. like, most animals will always give a person multiple chances to prove themselves and they’re always so kind ; he has never met an animal that didn’t like him ; animals also don’t have expectations like people do
  169. ° late nights and early mornings > Tendu hates sleep (due to his night terrors) and loves productivity, so… ; being an incubus, he’s naturally awake later into the night and he trained himself to wake up early in order to avoid his parents, who would always sleep in
  170. ° beef jerky > it’s probably his favorite food ; the type doesn’t matter, he loves all of it
  171. ° rain > rain just calms him ; he sees it as this kind of cleansing event ; although, it makes mud. he hates mud
  172. ° the smell of books > again, it’s calming to him, to feel surrounded by so much knowledge ; libraries and bookstores have always been his escape and his safe place
  173. ° overly hot weather > it’s hot what else is there to say? how could anyone actually like the heat? and it doesn’t help that VIM still drags him out in this weather
  174. ° the feeling of strength and…rightness he gets after intimate contact > it’s literally just him feeling healthy for once, how could he not like it?
  175. ° soft blankets > he loves to just curl up in a fluffy blanket with Atlas on his stomach and book in his hands after a long day
  176. ° sunrises and sunsets > he finds them incredibly beautiful and getting to see most all of them is one of his favorite things about not sleeping much
  177.
  178. DISLIKES |
  179. ° people who take advantage of others > it’s an ethical dilemma for him, considering he kind of needs to do this in order to survive
  180. ° people who flaunt their wealth or feel like they’re never satisfied until they have an excess of it > sure, he likes money, but he doesn’t see it as what’s most important in life, and he’s seen what it can do to people when they get this idea of being powerful in their minds
  181. ° mud > he dropped a book in a puddle when he was seven and he hasn’t forgotten that yet
  182. ° fire > it reminds him of what he is and what he’s done
  183. ° oranges > there was a time when he was five when he ate wayyy too many...
  184. ° loud or excessive noises > you don’t get a lot of those in a bookstore ; it gives him headaches
  185. ° messy eaters > he finds it disgusting
  186. ° WHEN BOOKS END SAD > yes, he can understand and even appreciate why the author did it and he won’t love the book any less, but that doesn’t mean he has to like it
  187. ° the feeling of strength and...rightness he gets after intimate contact > as much as he enjoys to feeling, that fact that he feels amazing after it disgusts him because it reminds him of what he is. the fact he enjoys it disgusts him even more
  188. ° having his ears touched by an object > for some reason, he’s fine with it when it’s another person, but if it’s like a hat or something, he can’t stand it
  189.
  190. HABITS |
  191. ° ruffling his hair > he does this whenever he’s tired from waking up or needing to sleep ; this habit formed from the number of times he would have to sit back, stretch, and yawn after sitting in an uncomfortable position over a book in the back of a library for hours
  192. ° twisting his spine > he does this to pop the joints in his back after sitting for a long period of time ; similar to the one above, it formed because, I mean, having a stiff back from sitting for hours on end isn’t nice and popping the joints relieves some of that stiffness
  193. ° stroking the spine of a book as he holds it or the edge of the pages as he reads > he does this unconsciously ; when he was younger, although he enjoyed reading, he still had a lot of energy, and this was one kind of way to let that out, so he was doing something more than only sitting and looking at parts of a dead tree with ink ; the thing with the spine also came from him fidgeting whenever someone would talk to him and he happened to be holding a book
  194.
  195. HOBBIES |
  196. ° studying anything and everything > he knew he had to get out of the house, and school was how he was going to do that. He wasn’t just going to bat his eyelashes and buy his way into a great school, he had to work for it and get in on his own merit ; he works in a bookstore and tutors some local casters, so he has plenty of opportunities to keep learning and keep working, and he makes sure to take advantage of every one of those
  197. ° organizing and reorganizing the bookstore > organizing is calming for him, and mixing things up keeps him busy, lets him and others discover new books, and allows for people coming in to have an utterly new experience (which is good for business, because then they never get bored) ; he does this every month or so, and it takes around a week
  198. ° going on long walks through the forest with Atlas > it helps to clear his mind and let him relax after being around people all day ; he does this about or twice a week (basically whenever he gets a break from his studies and work)
  199.
  200. TALENTS |
  201. ° he hates using it, but he has a charm he can turn on, calling on not his caster powers, but the abilities being an incubus leaves him. It makes people much more...likely to do whatever he asks of them
  202.
  203. TRIVIA |
  204. ° because he’s an incubus, he must have occasional intimate contact (whether kissing, sex, whatever, just more than friend stuff. there’s gotta be some element of lust involved) in order to survive > he will literally die if he doesn’t make out with someone every few weeks
  205. ° he’ll get gradually weaker, begin to lose his control over his powers, be a lot more susceptible to illnesses, be tired all of the time, his magic will be incredibly weak, etc.
  206. ° his magic is strongest and he’s most powerful after some kinda intimate contact
  207. ° he’s never had a girlfriend or a boyfriend > although he needs intimate contact to survive and hates to feel like he’s taking advantage of people, he hates the idea of being in a relationship more. there’s more emotions attached to a relationship than a one-night stand, and he doesn’t want anyone to feel like he’s just using them for a constant fix
  208. ° he blushes really easily > you would think he’d being the one making people blush, but nope ; if anything, it helps him to hide his incubus-ness
  209. ° he’s incredibly healthy, rarely getting sick, having an insane metabolism, etc. > he also is toned, despite the fact that he’s not that strong and never works out or watches what he eats
  210. ° he’s the king of tavern trivia games > he knows the most random things, and, even if he doesn’t know the answer to the question, he often knows that the possible answers don’t match the question ; he’s won quite a bit of money because of this (all of which VIM took to buy more drinks)
  211. ° he has Atlas watch over him at night, because he’s always worried what he’ll do when he has a night terror, whether that be get up and leave, accidentally hurt himself, or if his magic will go crazy > in the mornings, he asks Atlas a bunch of questions about it, and the coati always finds ways to answer (could be pointing on a graph, to a book title that has the proper response, or just squeaking in a way that gets the point across)
  212. ° he never wears shoes in his apartment > why would he, when he doesn’t have to?
  213. ° he’s trained Vaera to act like she’s about to attack, if he ever needs to shoo VIM out of his room > idk if he’s scared of birds or anything, but who wouldn’t be scared of a crow flying towards you, talons extending and cawing a war cry?
  214. ° he never spends the full night with anyone he has sex with > he sometimes screams during his night terrors, right? Well, let’s just say there was one one night stand where he accidentally fell asleep at his house (in Tendu’s defense, he had had a long day of exams), and woke up screaming in the middle of the night. Yeah, be probably traumatized that poor boy
  215. ° he studies dreams > one of his core beliefs is that explaining things or knowing how they work is the first step to overcoming problems ; he studies all of the causes and meanings and dream disorders there are ; he does find it interesting, but, at the same time, some of the meanings he finds scare or sadden him ; although he never says it outright (you can study your problems, you just can’t admit to them), he is looking for a cure for his night terrors. He has tried a lot, but has yet to actually find something that works
  216.
  217.
  218. “ FAMILIAR ”
  219.
  220.
  221. NAME | Atlas
  222. ° he would always fall asleep the map Tendu had laid on a table when Atlas was a baby
  223.
  224. SPECIES | coatimundi (south american raccoon)
  225. ° I love coatis so much. I have one, and he is the sweetest thing ever
  226. ° they’re like a mix of a raccoon (obviously), a dog, a cat, and a monkey, and they’re the best (yes, I may be a bit biased)
  227.
  228. GENDER | male

  237.
  238. PERSONALITY |
  239. Altas is very curious (like his owner), loving to climb on everything (especially the bookshelves) and everyone and get into everything. He’s generally friendly, usually greeting people at the door to the bookstore, sniffing them, letting them pet him, then going back to whatever he was doing before. He’s a good judge of character, and is good a telling when someone Tendu won’t like comes into the store. Atlas will avoid them and go squeak (yes, Coati’s squeak. They’re usually silent, but squeak when in distress) at Tendu. He is also unfriendly to those Tendu already doesn’t like.
  240. He’s incredibly intelligent (also like his owner), to the point Tendu has trained him to be able to bring him things, including books, whenever Tendu asks for them. The only issue with this is when there’s food involved. Coatis can eat most anything, and Atlas takes full advantage of that, to the point where Tendu has had to charm his cabinets and cooler to not open unless someone has the right spell. Tendu especially has to be careful around Atlas’ favorite foods: eggs, cake, and bread. For every meal Tendu is home, he always cooks Atlas his own plate.
  241. Atlas loves to be close to Tendu, sitting on his shoulder while Tendu is walking around, sleeping on his lap or next to him on the desk. Even in bed, Atlas has his own pillow next to Tendu’s. Atlas never needs a leash, either. He’ll follow Tendu around wherever, wandering off on his own to explore, but he always stays close to Tendu. Atlas gets anxious whenever Tendu leaves him at home for too long, even starting to dig into the walls or into boxes.
  242. Atlas doesn’t mind attention, but he can tell whenever Tendu is getting uncomfortable, and doesn’t mind doing something to make himself the center of attention to help Tendu.
  243.
  244. → While not his destined familiar, Tendu also has a female crow named Vaera (vay-rah), who is very smart, as well, is often off sending messages for Tendu, and sits either on Atlas’ back (much to the coati’s begrudging acceptance) or on his perch by Tendu’s desk. She also likes to sit on VIM’s shoulder and glare at him to make him uncomfortable.
  245. ° this probably won’t make it into VIM’s form, so you probably won’t use it, but I can kind of see VIM and Vaera pretending to hate each other all of the time, but they secretly love each other. Tendu would have even caught VIM petting and feeding her, which he quickly denied.
  246.
  247.
  248. “ STATISTICS ”
  249.
  250.
  251. WATER | 5/10 (he spent a long time on this, in order to balance out his incubus fire skills, but he struggled for a long time because it was at odd with his natural inclination towards fire)
  252. FIRE | 9/10 (this comes naturally to him, due to his incubus heritage. Some suc/incubi have a slight control over fire, even without being a full caster)
  253. NATURE | 5/10 (he’s never had a large interest, but he’s picked up a quite a bit from VIM)
  254. WEATHER | 6/10
  255. WIND | 3/10
  256. HERBS | 7/10 (he learned quite a bit in his quest to find a cure for night terrors + his incubus needs)
  257. CHARMS | 9/10 (what can I say, incubi are natural charmers)
  258. RUNES / WARDS | 8/10 (he finds these fascinating)
  259. AGILITY | 7/10
  260. STAMINA | 9/10 (I mean, he is a sex demon, after all…)
  261. STRENGTH | 5/10 (after he’s made out with someone for a while or had sex, this goes up to a 8/10 for a few days)
  262. COMBAT | 4/10
  263. FOCUS | 9/10
  264. CONTROL | 9/10 (this can go down to a 2/10 if he’s being starved of contact)
  265. OVERALL MAGICAL ABILITY | 8/10
  266. OVERALL PHYSICAL ABILITY | 6/10
  267. OVERALL MENTAL ABILITY | 9/10
  268. ° a lot of his higher ranked abilities are due to his incubus nature
  269. ° he knows a LOT about all of these branches of magic due to his studies
  270.
  271.
  272. “ OPINIONS ”
  273.
  274.
  275. HOW MUCH DO THEY KNOW ABOUT JULIANNE BREEZE? | Tendu knows everything that was available to the public. He went through a “law” phase that was three months of him reading and researching everything about laws and their origins, trials and their societal impact, etc. He’s actually a licensed lawyer (I think they were called “advocates” in medieval times or smth), but isn’t as interested in that subject, anymore.
  276.
  277. HOW DO THEY FEEL ABOUT THE LAW AGAINST WOMEN GOING TO MAGIC SCHOOLS TO ADVANCE THEIR POWER? | He finds it incredibly stupid. He loves history, so he knows that men could be just as easily coerced by black magic and that women can be even better casters than men, and have helped to fight black magic in the past. He sees no grounds for discrimination by gender.
  278.
  279. WHAT ARE THEIR OPINIONS ON THE COUNCIL? DO THEY AGREE WITH THEM? | Overall, Tendu recognizes the need for a council or some sort, but he doesn’t agree with a lot of the choices they make. They played a part in getting women kicked out of caster schools, which was a large reason for him questioning their power. Also, while he can see the benefit in wiping memories so as not to create a mass panic, at the same time he feels as though there are things the public should know and not have taken from them unwillingly.
  280.
  281. IF THEY COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT THEMSELVES, WHAT WOULD THEY CHANGE? | He would change his species, without a doubt. Tendu is deadset that that is the one thing keeping him from being truly happy, living up to his full potential, and being the person he wants to be. To him, it’s the worst and most evil thing about him.
  282. ° I feel like this is a question of what would tempt them to partake in black magic...
  283.
  284. WHAT IS THEIR VIEW ON HAVING TO GRADUATE TO BE CONSIDERED A WIZARD SINCE THIS ONLY APPLIES IN VAROS? | Tendu thinks that it does make sense, in a way. Anyone can be a caster, but they need actual training to become a wizard. It’s like someone being a teaching assistant/student before an actual teacher, or an apprentice before a blacksmith. People have to earn their degree. He himself needed that kind of confirmation that other people believed in his abilities and hard work to feel like he himself deserved the title.
  285. Although, he does believe that you shouldn’t have to actually attend a school to be a wizard. To him, there should be a test/series of tests that determine whether or not one can earn the title of wizard. You have to put the work in to be a wizard, not the schooling, because some can’t afford that or they’re much too intelligent for it to take years. For example, he didn’t attend a law school, but he passed the test to be a lawyer and is just as qualified as any other. This would apply to VIM’s situation. He’s a great caster, but he just didn’t go to a magic school.
  286.
  287. HOW DO THEY FEEL ABOUT HOW SOCIETY CHANGED AFTER THE CIVIL WAR AND THE BREEZE TRIAL EVEN THOUGH THEY LIKELY WEREN’T ALIVE FOR EITHER? | He felt that the civil war was necessary, because being a Protector isn’t a good fit for all casters and casters can be incredibly useful in other industries.
  288. He feels like the Breeze Trial was useful, because it did help to bring more awareness to the issue of black magic, but the ruling of banning women from caster schools is just plain dumb.

  297. HOW DO YOU WANT THEIR LOVE STORY TO GO? | n/a
  298. HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER AND THEIR LOVE INTEREST ACT AROUND EACH OTHER? | n/a
  299. COUPLE TRIVIA | n/a
  300. SUGGESTED SCENES | n/a
  301. ° if you end up putting him with a love interest, that’s perfectly fine, like, that could definitely be a thing to help with his character development and all that shit. I just didn’t put one here because, idk, I feel like he does have a lot of development to do, and that should happen before he gets a romantic arc, otherwise the romance might drown out all of his important development or make it seem like “oh, his true love fixed everything, how easy.” idk if that makes any sense or if you agree, that’s just how I see it
  302.
  303.
  304. “ EXTRA ”
  305.
  306.
  307. SUGGESTED SCENES |
  308. → Tendu and some others preparing for a big battle or something needing a lot of magic, so Tendu turns to one of the others, kisses them (to boost his powers), then runs off to do whatever they’re there to do
  309. → Sweet moments with Tendu and Atlas, maybe even with Atlas helping the group by finding something they really need
  310. → VIM dragging Tendu to a club / party / tavern or something
  311. ° maybe VIM forcing Tendu be him wingman, but that falling TERRIBLY, because Tendu is, well, an incubus, and hasn’t had any kind of intimate contact in a while, so he’s unconsciously giving off a lot of seduction magic, and, like, he’s also a sex demon, so he’s naturally more attractive
  312. → The group forcing Tendu to seduce information out of someone or get them to go somewhere or something. Basically just them taking advantage of his species.
  313. → Idk really know how to explain this one, but maybe Tendu has to go do something dangerous that VIM or someone doesn’t want him to do or someone comes back from a really traumatizing experience, and Tendu has to use his charm to make them calm down and fall asleep, which would be really hard on Tendu, considering he hates using his charm, especially on people he cares about
  314. → since Tendu sleeps without a shirt off, maybe some scene where the group needs to all be together, but Tendu is asleep, and VIM just lets them all into his bedroom (VIM has a key) and they just have a meeting while Tendu is blushing and shyly trying to cover up, but isn’t going to risk walking across the room to grab a shirt and he’s speaking too quietly for anyone to notice him asking them to toss him his shirt
  315. → Tendu having Vaera scare someone off, and them absolutely freaking the fuck out
  316. → sweet moments with VIM, because they’re adorable
  317. → someone being about to attack Tendu, and Altas and Vaera coming out of nowhere to fuck them up
  318.
  319. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR THIS APPLY FIC? IS THERE ANYTHING, IN PARTICULAR, YOU WANT ME TO DO OR INCLUDE? |
  320. → you could really play on the idea of familiars being super loyal to their masters and wanting what’s best for them
  321. ° maybe that’s someone turning to dark magic and the familiar becoming evil or the familiar trying to help their caster leave the darkness or them trying to protect their master from the council or something
  322. → in regards to Tendu, just him continuing to have conflict with being an incubus, especially as his powers are incredibly necessary for a lot of things, and slowly coming to accept and embrace his species and realize that it’ll be easier for him to just stop fighting what he is
  323. ° like, his character development could be dramatic
  324.
  325. ANYTHING ELSE? | You don’t have to use these, but this is kinda of how I see Tendu
