- AGDQ 2018 & MAGfest Reflection
- ------------------------------
- Before I attended AGDQ 2018, I went to MAGfest with the Pearstrike squad. I arrived at PHL on January 4th and drove to National Harbor with Pearstrike, and I had a great time. While I was there, I spent most of my time roaming the vendor area, checking out new indie games, and playing Initial D. We also played some bizarre board games together, such as Star Trek Uno and Spyfall. I didn't attend any panels in full, but I did see Chuggaconrory and Temmie Chang in passing, but couldn't muster up the courage to talk to them. I did happen to catch the legendary Aurumdude, who I've known for a few years. I voiced a video for him, and he did some work on A Hat in Time. I tried out an indie game named SOLE, which is an exploration game where you play as a glowing orb. The developer was there, where watched me play and listened to my feedback. It was an early build running on an Xbox One, but it felt pretty solid and it was fun to play. Definitely going to keep an eye out for its release. There was also an Initial D 8 tournament, but it was too crowded and late for me to participate in.
- Despite the amount of fun I had at MAGfest, I am unsure if I will attend again due to cost reasons.
- On Saturday night, Pearstrike and I drove to Herndon for AGDQ, where our AGDQ adventure began. I was rooming with Buffet, Mildew, and Connor and it was great. We spent most of our time grinding through THE DOG Island, which gives Road Trip Adventure a run for its money. That game is pure bliss, and I cannot thank Vulajin and Gary enough for convincing us to play it. Basically, you play as a bobble head dog on a quest to save your sister from The Condition, and it is surprisingly well made. I also spent a lot of time in the Tokyo Attack arcade, mostly playing Initial D. I made my way through most of the story mode, but I still have a long way to go with my S15 Silvia. I also helped run the Initial D tournament, which I surprisingly won. Really wasn't expecting that, since there were a lot of talented competitors participating. We plan on doing another tournament next time Initial D makes its way to GDQ. While in the arcade, I tried out Dragon Ball FighterZ. Tokyo Attack had two cabinets with fight stick controls, and it was really nice to play. As someone who never plays fighting games, it was easy to pick up and play and I managed to win a match. I also became sick. I woke up on Wednesday morning with a sore throat and an overall lack of energy. I spent that entire day in bed, sleeping and watching the stream on the hotel TV. The on-site nurse was incredibly helpful in making me feel better, and my symptoms vanished once I arrived back in California. I always made sure my hands were clean thanks to the sanitizing stations, but I guess I got unlucky. I was able to meet so many amazing people, I can't list everyone I met but thanks for being kind. :)
- My run went amazingly well. I was sick at the time of my performance, but I executed it the best I could. Huge thanks to Gary for allowing me to use his suit for the run, the GDQ staff for making this run happen, and everyone in the Densha community for all their hard work applying the translation and planning commentary. Shoutouts to the Couch Kid supporters. 8)
- I will do all I can to attend SGDQ 2018.
- 2018 Goals
- ------------------------------
- 2017 was an amazing year for me, and I hope 2018 is even better.
- My Winter vacation has come to a close, and I will be starting classes this week. Unfortunately, I will not have a lot of time to stream due to my heavy workload, but when I do have time...
- - Get a time less than 50 minutes in A Hat in Time any%.
- - Start doing Drift Stage time attacks once it enters Early Access.
- - Possibly learn Iconoclasts or Celeste.
