  1. The belfast agreement
  2.
  3. The belfast agreement is an agreement between the governments of the Republic of Ireland, Great Britain and the partys of Nothern Ireland.
  4. The belfast agreement was founded on 10th April 1998 and its purpose is to stop the violent phase of the Northern Ireland conflict since the 1960s. After the agreement, there was still some violence, but it did not get support of the population and did not escalate.
  5. The agreement consists of the many important arrangements:
  6. The government of the Republic of Ireland will waive to the reunification with Nothern Ireland and the troops of the Irish Republican Army, the troops of the Ulster Defence Association and the troops of the Ulster Volunteer Force will unarm.
  7. Also, Great Britain is going to reduce the troops in Northern Ireland and the possibility of reunification with the Republic of Ireland is not excluded, if the majority of the population from Northern Ireland expresses itself for it.
  8. Additionally, Irish and northern autorities will work side by side and Irishmen of the north are able to claim, in addition to the british passport, an Irish passport.
  9.
  10. Today, 20 years ago, the conflict moves again in the focus, because the Brexit vote could lead to a hard border between the British Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
