Nouse playlist – precious stones
The 6th of February celebrated our grand Queen’s 60th anniversary of being on the throne. And with the jubilee itself fast approaching, Nouse feels the best way to mark this joyous occasion is to create a playlist of precious stones – which I’m sure she’d agree is the best way to do it.

Donald Fagan – Ruby Baby
What? You were expecting Kaiser Chiefs for this particular stone? Well I’m sorry, but it’s not your list, it’s the Queen’s. And she likes this song more.

Diamonds – Ben Howard
“Oh there ain’t no diamonds in the boredom” sings Mr. Howard. I don’t know what he means, but the important thing is he loves precious stones as much as we do. Good on yourself Ben.

Turquoise Hexagon Sun – Boards of Canada
Although perhaps not as precious as some of the big-hitters in this list, Boards of Canada’s homage to the little stone that tried keeps it going through the long winter nights.

Tom Waits – Diamonds and Gold
Mr. Waits scoring double points for getting two in one title – what a martyr for the gemstones!

RJD2 – Silver Fox
A fox built from this precious stone would be a gift fit for a Queen! However it would also be extremely heavy, dangerous and inappropriate economically in austerity Britain.

Crystal Ball – Keane
I think Tom Chaplin’s getting his hopes up that a crystal ball could “save us all”. Perhaps more realistic is its function as an attractive household ornament or paperweight.

The Crystal Lake – Granddady
“The crystal lake it only laughs” sings Jason Lytle. I’d be laughing too if I was made of a valuable commodity.  Laughing all the way to the bank.

Spanish Platinum – Gayngs
Because regular platinum just isn’t good enough.

Silver Trembling Hands – The Flaming Lips
Silver trembling hands: great for electrical and thermal conduction, bad for tense situations, flexibility, social acceptance.

Sound of Silver – LCD Soundsystem
I bet the queen wishes she could feel like a teenager, just like James Murphy.
