Past and Future, but lacking Present, Me.

With no warning, it happened. Everything suddenly became different. In a single moment, information entered my mind. Understanding the impossible. Memories that never happened. Dreams that were never shared. A future, yet also distant past. Yet all I understand is that I am not the first.

It has no name, or at least no longer has one. A file destroyed, yet only partially. I call it the precursor. It hardly speaks. However, as the new semester approaches she starts to talk more to me.

“Sayori, please don’t hurt him. He is kind and gentle after all. I would hate it if he was hurt.” A distant voice meekly tells me.

“Hurt who?” I respond. Sadly, only silence is kind enough to answer my question.

It happens randomly. Like the voice has no concept of time. However, it is the only thing like me. The only thing that knows as much as I do; or maybe even more? I once was able to ask it a question once.

“What is fun?” I asked myself, knowing all outcomes what can be considered fun or exciting?

“Anything is fun with him. For the others anyway.” The voice responds. However, to my surprise the voice continues.

“I envy you, you know? You are still able to interact with him. Please do not disappoint him. Even with all the pain and suffering I barred and caused, I would do it all over if it meant I could be with him more.”

In that instant, everything started to connect. The fake memories. The precursor’s name. Everything. What it did, what SHE did. And most importantly, what HE did. The once mess of memories and instructions now made since.

I cried that night. I didn’t even get out of bed in the morning. What was the use? The next day literally everything was scripted. Except for me and him.

“Now you know my pain.” She quietly whispers to me. I could almost feel her breath on my ear.
“Now face him. With everything that you know. For the both of us.”

Then, he clicked “New Game”
