47. Ten years after his son went M.I.A. in Vietnam, U.S. Marine retired Colonel Jason Rhodes assembles a private rescue team to find Americans held in P.O.W. camps in Laos.
48. A group of Vietnam War veterans re-unite to rescue one of their own left behind and taken prisoner by the Vietnamese. Led by his father (a retired Marine Colonel) and supported by a rich businessman whose son is also a P.O.W., the group engages in a dangerous and violent adventure trying to rescue the P.O.W.s, and at the same time, re-direct their lives.
49. Always enjoy Gene Hackman,(Col. Cal Rhodes), who portrayed a retired Marine Col., who was bound and determined to find his son and rescue other Vietnam captives for over ten long years missing in action. Cal Rhodes got tired of trying his Congressmen for their assistance and decided to get together some of his old devoted Marine buddies to come to his aid. There was lots of hard work to obtain Helicopters (UH-1H), weapons and men determined to help their fellow vets once again. Robert Stack appears in the film and is able to furnish financial support with his ability to secure vehicles. There is a so called young Marine who tries to assist the Marine Vets and is given a hard time, which is rather interesting. There is lots of action and a wonderful film about our fantastic Vets of the Vietnam War. However, this is a sad film which gives some horrible details concerning the torture our Brave Men had to endure.
50. But to be a little more precise I do not think that it is as bad as it actually could be. Eventhough the actors (famous to semi-famous) didn't do a very great job. Directors fault? Could be the script as well hard for me to say? Anyway, if you are after a lot of cool guns and action this is not the movie for you but they do run around with a lot of ww2 vintage guns. Sort of fun :) Well I guess I could say more but it just doesn't feel as if it's worth it. If you are desperate enough or a Hackman freak see it otherwise don't!

Live well and prosper
51. Action fans may well find Uncommon Valor enjoyably familiar, but for others it will smack of war movie dej a-vu, despite the new angle provided by its concern for American soldiers missing in action in Vietnam.
52. Yes, the concept that American prisoners of war were still being held in Southeast Asia was extremely prevalent in the early 80s (the Vietnamese communists not releasing some French prisoners until 16 years after the Indo-China war). It was taken seriously enough that ex-Green Beret Colonel Bo Gritz organised a private rescue mission (on which this film is based) but was persuaded to call it off by the US government who were organising their own rescue attempt using the Delta Force. In his autobiography former Delta Force member Eric Haney (writer and co-creator of the series The Unit) states that this mission was effectively scuppered when Gritz held a news conference revealing his own efforts in order to draw attention to the issue. Gene Hackman's character is widely thought to be based on Gritz whilst Robert Stack's is based on Texan billionaire Ross Perot who was deeply involved in the Vietnam MIA/POW campaign. In 1993 a meticulous inquiry by Vietnam war veteran Senator John Kerry and former Vietnam Prisoner of War Senator John McCain concluded there was no proof of any prisoners being retained in Southeast Asia after the end of the conflict and the subsequent opening up of Vietnam following the collapse of the Berlin Wall has not revealed any evidence of US servicemen being held against their will. a5c7b9f00b
