  1. [Annoying Rep], I’m sorry to say but your interpretation of the log report is just incorrect.
  2.
  3. The destination server, [customer SMTP server], is responding correctly as indicated by the “Initial Response: 220” line. [Shitty ERP Software] then replies with a “Sending STARTTLS.” This is not a timeout error when trying to connect the server.
  4.
  5. The error message that is being received back is “Failed to read SChannel response (3).” This is a failure of Chilkat mail to properly handle recipient sending over SSL to the receiving host. Not a failure of the remote host to not respond.
  6.
  7. Having done your research for you, we have checked with Chilkat developers and found that the version that [Shitty ERP Company] has embedded within [Shitty ERP Software] is several years out of date. The current version is 9.4.1 SP1 while [Shitty ERP Software] is using 7.6.1.
  8.
  9. Speaking to a gentleman over at Chilkat, he stated that version 7.6.1 used the Microsoft SChannel API when doing SSL/TLS handshaking. He stated that Chilkat completely rewrote their SSL/TLS API to handle encrypted mail handshaking directly, rather than using the Microsoft SChannel API as the SChannel API was extremely buggy and could not be relied upon to provide stable SSL/TLS handshaking.
  10.
  11. He cited examples of old versions of Chilkat crashing applications for [Shitty Financial Instutitions] under similar circumstances.
  12.
  13. Please tell me how [Shitty ERP Company] plans to rectify this problem.
