Free rose and walked to the elevator. He entered the glassed-on cage and said to MT, "Take me up. I want to get the hell off of Elysium."

The elevator began to rise. It was no more than two feet from ground level when out of the chasm Free saw a blur of movement.

Jason! He was not dead. He didn't even look harmed. His body, covered with soil that he shook off like a dog, had leapt out of the hole and landed on the ground as if twenty-five meters were only twenty-five centimetres. And now he was running, fast, and Free stared in horror as the monster that shared his DNA hurled himself into the air and caught the lower edge of the elevator and hung onto it with both hands as it rose rapidly into the sky.
