Maljun was born and raised in Incheon, South Korea with a very simple upbringing. He has an older brother who dreamed of becoming a doctor an although he was rarely compared to the other he still wanted to be his own person. Mal found the art of dancing at the age of eight and fell in love. His parents were very loving and supportive of him and enrolled him profesional classes that allowed him to be the amazing dancer he is today.
At the age of 14 he grew to love rapping as another form of expressing himself and his unique ways. He never intended to try a be an idol but his parents foresaw a bright future if he did and as per his request he decided to audition.
