- /r/interactivefiction is no longer. Reddit is an increasingly toxic platform in a wide variety of ways, and venture capital is making it even worse. The new API pricing killing third-party mobile apps is the final straw for me and many other users; Reddit management has never been user-friendly but this is pretty transparently evil. So I'm shutting the subreddit down. Before I get on my soapbox about The State Of Things™️, here's some places to find and talk about interactive fiction. These haven't been vetted by me, so your mileage may vary.

- Now... you can stop reading at this point, but I have something to say.
- We are at an inflection point. Interactive fiction as a form is under threat from people who have stolen our work, thrown it into AI blenders, and are now presenting the results of that "labor" as their own. We should not be okay with this. Our work and skill and creativity is not replicable by an AI, no matter how realistic its output may seem, and we should not allow Silicon Valley machine learning jerkoffs to try to convince us or the wider community otherwise. It is a grave insult to our labor by people who refuse to put in the work to learn the craft.
- But that's just me. Stay well, be kind to people (unless they're stealing your work). It's been my pleasure to help out.
- P.S. I respectfully request that my intentions and my choices not be subverted by attempting to resurrect this subreddit. Reddit, both as a capitalistic entity and a social media platform, will never love you back. I've been here for thirteen years; trust me, it's not gonna get better. There are other communities and other places to go.
