49. In the last moments of World War II, a secret Nazi space program evaded destruction by fleeing to the Dark Side of the Moon. During 70 years of utter secrecy, the Nazis construct a gigantic space fortress with a massive armada of flying saucers. When American astronaut James Washington puts down his Lunar Lander a bit too close to the secret Nazi base, the Moon Führer decides the glorious moment of retaking the Earth has arrived sooner than expected. Washington claims the mission is just a publicity stunt for the President of the United States, but what else could the man be but a scout for the imminent attack by Earth forces? The Fourth Reich must act. Two Nazi officers, ruthless Klaus Adler and idealistic Renate Richter, travel to Earth to prepare the invasion. In the end when the Moon Nazi UFO armada darkens the skies, ready to strike at the unprepared Earth, every man, woman and nation alike, must re-evaluate their priorities.
 50. Unlike their Swedish neighbors that brought on a Hollywood remake of the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". "Iron Sky" is an original and will withstand the test of time...past 2018 (the time that the film is set in). Timo Vuorensola, Johanna Sinisalo, Michael Kalesniko and Tero Kaukomaa have turned the traditional studio films, upside down by not cranking out a toy or comic book inspired film with a fresh original. The computer generated backgrounds and special effects really dazzle on the big screen. I have been watching the evolution on the internet and I was awed. I was afraid that I would have been seeing a Roger Corman inspired space opera in that that regard. But nope! The quality is up there! You can see from the fan driven work and crowd sourcing donors, that "Iron Sky" was a labor of love. I applaud the whole team from behind the camera, to the front, and thanks for the joy of the true secret of the motion picture. To escape for little bit from the real world!
 51. Didn't know anything about the movie when I saw it, and I found it hilariously offensive. This is a Finnish-German-Australian science- fiction comedy made with fan donations that winds up making a lot of fun of Nazis, Americans, and even a few jokes about the Finns and the Australians.

Basically, the Nazis have been hiding out on the moon for 70 years making plans to conquer the world. The only thing holding them back is the development of a supercomputer, which conveniently falls into their lap in the form of an iPhone when a black US astronaut arrives on their doorstep. The Nazis are about to implement their invasion when the iPhone battery dies and they decide to go back to Earth, with the black astronaut now brainwashed and turned white (I told you it was offensive), to gather more iPhones.

On Earth, the Nazis wind up scripting a Sarah Palin-like US President's re-election campaign with Hitlerian speeches and Goebbels-like imagery before the all-out (slapstick) interplanetary war breaks out.

There's a large amount of referential humor and one-liners that help if you're up on current politics and WWII history. It's all pretty silly, but production values for this $10 million movie are quite outstanding, and it's one of only a handful of successful sci-fi comedies ever made. For a B-movie, it's really a lot of fun.

 53. Jarmo Puskala came up with the idea for the film whilst in the sauna. The filmmakers also provided the opportunity for collaboration from fans. People could ask for a screening in their home town, help collaborate in the film's creation, and invest in the movie. 10% of the film's budget was generated by fans. However, the idea of Nazis secretly on the Moon goes at least as far back as Robert Heinlein's novel "Rocket Ship Galileo" published in 1947. The Finnish director Timo Vuorensola was under a lot of time pressure and completed the theatrical version only 48 hours ahead of the deadline for the Berlinale festival. Unfortunately, that meant that numerous scenes were not yet finished and couldn't be integrated into the movie. The now released Director's Cut, which is also marketed as Dictator's Cut, is not only much longer than the theatrical version but also the better film. It makes the film seem more complete, adds more depth to story and characters, has more battle scenes and some improved effect shots. That should satisfy fans. The director himself described it this way: "With the Director's Cut, I was able to bring in many of the scenes I really enjoyed and now are prepared in full quality. The film is now almost 20 minutes longer, and much more epic in pacing, and finally in the form I originally wanted it to be." a5c7b9f00b
