  61. Bio: Eyes-Like-Gold was just one of a reasonably large group of eagle-harpies born on the same day, named for her particularly striking eyes. The flock was based not to far from Culri’s Forest - they were strictly instructed to stay over the Fringewoods, if they must fly over it, for the arachnids on the fringes may think better than to eat some stray harpies. A few short years into her life, Eyes-Like-Gold and some of her egg-mates - those who had been in the same group of eggs as her - had decided to watch some of the older harpies hunt, over the forest. If they kept to the air, after all, nothing could hurt them! Such was the rather faulty logic they employed. If they had done so, perhaps it would have been fine. If one of the harpy children had not spotted something in the Deepwoods, something incessantly shiny and glittering so mesmerizingly that she had to tell her friends so they could get it, it would have been fine.
  62. The harpy children, only 11 years old, descended towards the shining thing. A pile of shiny things! They were in such a rush, they barely paid attention to the webs in the trees until it was too late. Eyes-Like-Gold found herself ensnared with her sisters in the webs of the Deepwood arachnids. She struggled to free herself, but was completely trapped as the hunters came to check on their traps. One of the others, Swift-As-Gale, broke free and moved to flee as the spiders began to close in after having dealt with the further away harpies. But at the last moment, she turned and moved to free Eyes-Like-Gold.
  63. As soon as the web was cut and her wings freed, Eyes-Like-Gold took to the air. She’d have left right then if she hadn’t heard a cry behind her, and saw that an elder Spider had seen the escape and moved to intercept, and had grabbed Swift-As-Gale. Eyes-Like-Gold had the chance to run, to save herself - but her sister had risked her life for her, and it was impossible for her not to repay it. She lunged. While a child harpy of course had no chance at all against an older spider, it had not been expecting her to turn and try to save Swift-As-Gale. She got a swift claw at the face, distracting it enough that the spider dropped its prey as it turned to strike at her. She didn’t wait around - she felt the injury on her back, a glancing blow from a flailing foe, but it didn’t inhibit her flight and she and her now singular sister escaped the trap and fled towards home.
  64. The event had a great effect on the both of them for the years to come. To start with, they were now the only survivors of their clutch. They’d not been particularly close before, among their several sisters, but now Eyes-Like-Gold and Swift-As-Gale were brought together by shared experience and the fact they were the nearest remaining family of each other. As time wore on, and the trauma became further away, the two began to prepare for their travels outside the nest. They wouldn’t be caught unable to defend themselves again, if they had the choice. Eyes-Like-Gold found that she was a natural with the bow, in contrast to her energetic and aggressive personality at odds with the “traditional” image of a hunter.
  65. Years later, the time came for them to leave the metaphorical and literal nest, as harpies are wont to do - time for them to go into the world and experience what it might have to offer. Unlike many of their kind, Eyes-Like-Gold and Swift-As-Gale decided they would set out together, for safety and companionship.
  66. Soon after they left, having gone to the desert (partly because the desert dwellers often required messengers to avoid crossing the desert themselves, partly because it was away from the forest…), they found some work. Specifically, as couriers and to an extent bodyguards for a dragon who, for some reason, owns a library. That was a while ago - now, they’re going on a certain mission with their boss, and may be getting in over their heads...
