Pokémon Fire Red Round 2 FAQ

Why do you keep resetting?
I need good stats and a not bad nature on my squirtle. I am using RNG manipulation, but due to the way RNG works in this game it is not possible to manipulate the same squirtle every time. I check my trainer ID and then enter it into a program to see which squirtles are possible to hit, and then try and hit one of them. This makes the manipulation difficult as the timing is different every time, and the timing can change due to variance caused by moving NPCs.

Why do you pick the girl?
She's the best girl character of all pokémon games.

Why do you name yourself/rival/squirtle a 1 character name?
Having a 1 character name saves time every time the name shows up, since text displays 1 character per frame.

Why do you choose squirtle, and then use zapdos later on?
There are three different routes for this game, Blastose + Zapdos, Blastoise + Mewtwo and Charizard solo. I am doing the Blastoise + Zapdos route because 1) I want to submit this category to UKSM and Blastoise + Zapdos is the best marathon (non RNG manip) route. 2) Can accept more squirtles making it easier to start runs. 3) Zapdos is my favourite legendary.

What is the counter in the top left for?
To unlock the Elite Four Round 2 in this game you need to have completed the sevii island sidequests, and in order to unlock those you have to get the national pokedex, and to get the national pokedex you have to complete round 1 and have 60 pokémon registered as caught in the pokédex. So that counter is how many of the 60 I have got so far.

Do you always catch the same 60 Pokémon?
No. There are a few I will always get, but apart from those it's just what I encounter and decide it's worth trying to catch. Some pokémon are worth more since they can be evolved or traded.

What are the numbers next to the split names?
How many Pokémon I had caught at that point in my PB. Lets you know if I'm really ahead/behind or if it's just because I had more/less Pokémon.

Are there any glitches in the run?
No, there are no useful glitches for speedrunning this game.

Why do you run on Fire Red instead of Leaf Green?
You want to buy Abra and Clefairy at the Game Corner. In Fire Red, Abra costs 180 and Clefairy costs 500 so total cost is 680. In Leaf Green, Abra costs 120 and Clefairy costs 750 so total cost is 870.

Are you playing on console or emulator?
I am playing on a DS with a capture board installed.
