  1. WHY DO I WANT TO DO THIS?
  2. ------------------------
  3. Because you want to play Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection. It is the best Tekken game, after all.
  4.
  5. WHY RPCS3 INSTEAD OF PPSSPP?
  6. ---------------------------
  7. Because it more easily allows for local multiplayer, and potentially a friendlier overall netplay experience with something like Parsec. Also it's prettier.
  8. That being said, RPCS3 may not work for everyone -- PS3 emulation is fairly new (therefore somewhat less stable) and a fair bit more resource intensive than PSP emulation, so do whatever works best for you.
  9.
  10. WHAT DO I NEED?
  11. --------------
  12. RPCS3: the emulator itself.
  13. https://rpcs3.net/
  14. System requirements are on the website, so double check those to make sure your computer is up to snuff.
  15.
  16. PS3 Firmware: official firmware is fine, no need to worry about installing CFW to get anything to work.
  17. https://www.playstation.com/en-in/get-help/ps3-system-software/
  18.
  19. NoPayStation Browser: use this to download the game -- this is the best way to do it, as NPS downloads games directly from Sony's servers, even if the game itself has been delisted from the PSN Store.
  20. https://nopaystation.com/
  21.
  22. pkg2zip: a tool to go alongside NPS that decrypts and unpacks the game files. Probably optional (since it mostly seems to be used for Vita stuff) but it can't hurt.

  24.
  25. HOW DO I SET EVERYTHING UP?
  26. ---------------------------
  27. 1. Initial RPCS3 Firmware Setup
  28. Once you've downloaded the firmware, simply open RPCS3, click 'File' and select 'Install Firmware'. Point it to your 'PS3UPDAT.PUP' file, let it do its thing, and you're good to go. Just make sure your controls are properly configured from here -- RPCS3 has native gamepad support and even automatically recognises most controllers. I didn't even have to do anything to set up my DS4.
  29.
  30. 2. NPS Browser Setup
  31. Once you have NPS Browser unpacked into the directory of your choosing, you'll be asked to set up your TSVs/URL links and other stuff.
  32. For the TSVs, use the links under "TSV Links for Browser Applications" on the NPS website and copy them in. For our purposes here, though, all you need to do is copy the PS3 TSV link into the appropriate box in the options menu.
  33. http://nopaystation.com/tsv/PS3_GAMES.tsv
  34. Next, select where you want games to be downloaded to under "Download and unpack dir", use the box below it to point the program to wherever you've put pkg2zip, and make sure the pkg dec paramaters (underneath your pkg2zip address) read as follows:
  35. -x {pkgFile} "{zRifKey}"
  36.
  37. Then you're good to go. Let NPS Browser sync its database up, search for Dark Resurrection, and download the game. Download whatever one says "Dark Resurrection Online" just to make sure you're getting the most up to date release of the game.
  38.
  39. 3. Setting up the game on RPCS3
  40. Once you've downloaded the game from NPS, you'll notice that your downloads folder will have two subdirectories -- one titled 'exdata' and one titled 'pkg'. 'pkg' is where the actual game files are kept, while 'exdata' contains .rap files, which are essentially license/activation data for the game, meaning a game won't start without its corresponding .rap file.
  41.
  42. Firstly, copy DR's .rap file into your RPCS3 directory\dev_hdd0\home\00000001\exdata. Then, in RPCS3, click 'File', select 'Install .pkg', point to wherever you've downloaded the game's .pkg file to, let it install, and then you're good to go.
  43.
  44. NOTE: every time you load a stage, character, vfx whatever for the first time, RPCS3 will load everything in bit by bit -- after all, it has to compile all of the shaders and what have you. However, once you've loaded in those resources for the first time, they're stored locally, so you won't need to load them again every time you start up RPCS3.
  45. Also keep in mind that some stages may perform better than others -- I hit a consistent 59-60fps on most stages, but the temple stage drops to around 53-55fps for me. Let me know what stages work for you or not!
  46.
  47. Have fun playing Dark Resurrection!
