  1. "A Lonely Queen"
  2.
  3. With courtly grace she made no haste,
  4. To sit down by his side.
  5. A lonely queen with scars unseen,
  6. From sorrow that she'd hide.
  7.
  8. For in despair and without care,
  9. She only sought release.
  10. A painful shame from whence it came,
  11. Then temporary peace.
  12.
  13. Although she wept a smile crept,
  14. Because she felt alive.
  15. Upon the surface a new purpose;
  16. Thirst was satisfied.
  17.
  18. In silence then with fear inside,
  19. They glanced across each page.
  20. But through torn skin so deep within,
  21. There was a yearning rage.
  22.
  23. In lavender dreams none had seen,
  24. There was a bitter pain.
  25. 'twas an unconvinced forlorn prince,
  26. Whose heart she'd never gain.
  27.
  28. In shallow breath with lightest press,
  29. She waits expectantly.
  30. Without demand his fearful hand,
  31. Turned through each page slowly.
  32.
  33. In anxious dread he looked ahead,
  34. Upon the fancy words,
  35. With clear intent he must lament,
  36. His thoughts he could not form.
  37.
  38. For in her wake a brief mistake,
  39. He gazed upon her dress;
  40. Purple satin, scent of jasmine,
  41. Renewed with every breath.
  42.
  43. Then something changed he couldn't name,
  44. His heart began to race.
  45. So in dismay he looked away,
  46. Ashamed in his disgrace.
  47.
  48. But without flaw he finally saw,
  49. A smile cross her face.
  50. And at his gaffe she faintly laughed,
  51. His fear had been misplaced.
  52.
  53. The seasons pass their courtship last,
  54. And they became close friends.
  55. And in good time the queen did find,
  56. The lost prince in her mind.
  57.
  58. "Epilogue"
  59. But each night he dared to ask,
  60. "Tomorrow, might we read again?"
  61. "Yes, of course!" in voice morose,
  62. "But first... May I borrow your pen?"
