- "A Lonely Queen"
- With courtly grace she made no haste,
- To sit down by his side.
- A lonely queen with scars unseen,
- From sorrow that she'd hide.
- For in despair and without care,
- She only sought release.
- A painful shame from whence it came,
- Then temporary peace.
- Although she wept a smile crept,
- Because she felt alive.
- Upon the surface a new purpose;
- Thirst was satisfied.
- In silence then with fear inside,
- They glanced across each page.
- But through torn skin so deep within,
- There was a yearning rage.
- In lavender dreams none had seen,
- There was a bitter pain.
- 'twas an unconvinced forlorn prince,
- Whose heart she'd never gain.
- In shallow breath with lightest press,
- She waits expectantly.
- Without demand his fearful hand,
- Turned through each page slowly.
- In anxious dread he looked ahead,
- Upon the fancy words,
- With clear intent he must lament,
- His thoughts he could not form.
- For in her wake a brief mistake,
- He gazed upon her dress;
- Purple satin, scent of jasmine,
- Renewed with every breath.
- Then something changed he couldn't name,
- His heart began to race.
- So in dismay he looked away,
- Ashamed in his disgrace.
- But without flaw he finally saw,
- A smile cross her face.
- And at his gaffe she faintly laughed,
- His fear had been misplaced.
- The seasons pass their courtship last,
- And they became close friends.
- And in good time the queen did find,
- The lost prince in her mind.
- "Epilogue"
- But each night he dared to ask,
- "Tomorrow, might we read again?"
- "Yes, of course!" in voice morose,
- "But first... May I borrow your pen?"
