- To all employees of the University of Michigan:
- Members of the Departments of Epidemiology, Pathology, and Internal Medicine are conducting a study to examine immunity to COVID-19 and examine protection afforded from prior exposure through infection or vaccination. The study will also examine the response to vaccination or natural infection. We are offering this study to University employees, contactors or health professions students. This study will involve monitoring your COVID-19 serological status, that is whether you have antibodies to COVID-19 as well as monitoring for COVID-19 active infection. Participants will be notified of their clinical lab test results, including COVID-19 serology which may change over time after potential exposure either through infection or vaccination. Participation in this study will not impact personal protective equipment recommendations, deployment, or any employment or other health factor at this time.
- The study involves an enrollment process (~1 hour) completed online or over the phone, short weekly illness surveys (~3 minutes per week), a venous blood draw every other month (~15 minutes), and a survey about interactions outside of your house every other month (~10 minutes).
- If you test positive for an acute COVID-19 infection after clinical testing following routine notification of Occupational Health Services if you have concerning symptoms, the study involves serial swab testing and an illness follow-up survey. The study will also involve access to your medical records for demographic and basic health data collection as well as any COVID-19 related illness information.
- The principal investigators are Aubree Gordon, PhD MPH and Riccardo Valdez, MD, and co-investigators are Carmen Gherasim, PhD, Don Giacherio, PhD, David Manthei, MD, PhD, and Emily Stoneman, MD.
- This study is titled "Immunity Associated with SARS-CoV-2" and is called IASO for short.
- The study is IRB-approved (HUM00184533).
