Today (13 March, 2021), after a hiatus of nearly ten years, the MARAT initiative launches public online venues and a presentation wiki for the crowd-sourced research effort ProjPM, our relaunched iteration of the original Project PM outfit that was successfully taken out of commission by the United States government and its partners after the arrest and imprisonment of founder Barrett Brown in 2012.

For the first time since 2013, then, we have been able to make the entirety of Project PM’s previous research reliably and consistently available to researchers, journalists, and anyone else who may be inclined to learn about the various state-corporate surveillance and disinformation partnerships uncovered in 2011, as well as the individual companies, executives, and retired military and intelligence personnel whose leaked correspondence paints a disturbing picture of how far such efforts had advanced a decade ago.

As with the original website, echelon2.org, our new wiki will be curated and open to contributions by volunteers; and as with the original Project PM, this effort will be staffed and operated by seasoned researchers and activists working out of several online venues, including public IRC channels where prospective contributors and other parties can participate in the effort and learn about the theory and practice of crowd-sourced research in general.

The importance of this effort may perhaps be best explained by noting that several of the entities that Project PM was central to exposing and documenting in 2011 and 2012 – such as Palantir and Archimedes Global – have since been revealed as having been involved in the apparently successful campaign by Cambridge Analytica to subvert the 2016 US election via the same data mining and social media disinformation technologies that Project PM and its associates warned of a decade ago.

Indeed, one of the executives that Archimedes Global and Cambridge Analytica shared in common would go on to serve in the Trump Administration.

"How can I help?"
Most volunteers comb the internet for news pertaining to state-corporate surveillance and disinformation partnerships, sharing updates with others within our collaboration. This typically triggers research, including the filing of FIOAs (freedom of information requests) which results in articles within the Project PM wiki.
