  1. >It had been a little more than a year since Kris and Susie confessed their love for each other on that mountain
  2. >And it had been one hell of a year for the two impassioned introverts, to put it simply
  3. >To give you a little history lesson, after communing their feelings on Mt. Ebott, they weren’t exactly sure how to go about their daily lives now without making people suspicious about their newfound relationship
  4. >They sure as hell didn’t want to give Berdly more reasons to be even more of a smartass towards the both of them
  5. >More importantly, they were afraid of having their parents find out that they’re now somewhat dating
  6. >After some thinking, they both agreed to keep it a tight secret and to only be intimate with each other once they were sure that they were all alone, completely away from any prying eyes
  7. >And for a good while, it actually worked out for the two juveniles
  8. >They still hung out at various places in hometown, causing all sorts of mischievous pranks and goofing off like they normally do
  9. >It was only when they were alone, whether it be the special spot in the forest where Kris and Asriel would go to when they were younger or up on Mt. Ebott, that they would be a bit more intimate with each other
  10. >Their private moments together were mainly composed of hanging out and talking about their life problems, arguments about dumb topics like whether axes or swords are cooler or just wanting to get away and just be in their own little world to relax
  11. >There was some skin contact between the two of them, but it was nothing extreme or anything
  12. >It was either holding each other’s hands which half the time they never realized it, or one having their arm around the other to further enjoy each other's presence
  13. >Both of them weren’t really experienced when it came to making moves, so this was about as intimate as they could really get
  14. >Moments like these felt nice for both of them, especially since it was with the person that they “like-liked”
  15. >But if their way of keeping things a secret was anything like the way they can pay attention in class…
  16. >Well… it didn’t last long before people started to become suspicious about the two’s relationship
  17. >It already was a bit of a joke between hometown’s residents that the two had a thing for each other, but now the evidence was starting to become more apparent
  18. >Whenever someone made a remark about how they'd make a cute couple, which before they started having feelings for each other would normally pass it off with a simple “yeah right” and laugh it off, they now seemed to be thrown off by it
  19. >They would still try to act it off like it was a joke to them, but the stammering and blushing that came from it wasn’t very convincing
  20. >Some residences have seen Kris tell Susie something, most likely a joke, and her bursting into laughter before slamming her mouth shut and darting around to see if anyone had noticed
  21. >A few students around the school have claimed to have seen them stare at each other weirdly in class for long periods of time
  22. >Berdly believes that Susie is giving him a death glare that petrifies him, the poor bastard
  23. >Even Catti claims to have seen Susie and Kris hold hands when they had left the Diner while she was on her shift, though most people don’t really believe her since she rarely looks up from her phone in the first place
  24. >At this point Kris and Susie were starting to feel the heat of the situation nibble at their feet, the whole town was breathing down their necks
  25. >Their worst fear was the secret getting out to their parents
  26. >What would they say? What would they do? Would they force them to break up, ever to be together ever again?
  27. >They weren't prepared to tell their families about their relationship, at least not until they feel confident enough
  28. >Though there were too many close calls to count, Susie and Kris believed that they were still in the clear for now and everyone in town was none the wiser
  29. >...Well except for Asgore and Susanne
  30.
  31. >It was a warm, sunny, spring afternoon, Kris was helping his father around his flower shop
  32. >He doesn’t visit his dad too often, so it’s nice to give the old goat some good ole father-son time once in a while
  33. >“I cannot thank you enough for stopping by and helping me around the shop, son,” Asgore said while he was attending his daisies, “it’s good to know that there’s always you around who I can depend on.”
  34. >“No problem, dad,” Kris muttered out as he struggled to carry an absurdly large bag of manure mix, “I don’t always get the opportunity to bond with you by moving around bags of shit, heheh.”
  35. >Asgore let out a hearty chuckle, “Language Kris! Though your mother raised you like an Angelic boy you never seem to lose that sarcasm of yours, now do you?”
  36. >Kris plopped the heavy bag near the flower bed and let out a sigh, “Gotta have something to keep me human.”
  37. >Asgore grabbed some trimmers and headed for the roses, “Hehe, I guess so. though I do wonder where this renewed vigor of sailor mouth came from.”
  38. >Kris gave his dad a shrug before going to grab another another heavy bag, “Just feeling a bit more ambitious these days, you know?”
  39. >As he hoisted the bag with all his strength and made his way towards the flower bed, Asgore turned around, “Could it be that new girlfriend of yours, Susie?”
  40. >Kris froze in place as his ruby eyes shot open, the bag of manure now feeling 5x heavier
  41. >Even through his brown, shaggy hair that obscured his eyes, Asgore could sense the the shock on his sons face
  42. “W-what girlfriend dad? I barely even have friends let alone a girlfriend, I mean c’mon. Eh... hehe...” Kris muttered
  43. >He resumed walking and was now desperately hoping that his dad bought into his deflection
  44. >“I know you’ve been dating Susie, Kris.” Asgore said in a low, dead-pan tone
  45. >Kris’ blood turned cold when he said that and in shock dropped the manure bag, letting it slam on the ground and sending clumps of brown pebbles everywhere
  46. >Looks like shit has finally hit the fan… or the floor in this case
  47. >“Oh crap!” Kris yelled as he frantically began picking up the bag to prevent any further spillage
  48. >Asgore huffed out a laugh as he his son’s usual stoic manner break down into a clumsy mess, though he was a bit upset that his recently spotless floor was now covered in manure
  49. >Kris ran to the closet to grab a dustpan and broom, almost tripping on his own feet, and began to sweep up the manure
  50. >“L-look dad, I...uhm, I-im sorry that I-” Kris tried to form a sentence in his state of nervousness and confusion
  51. >Asgore simply walked towards his son and lied a large, furry hand on his shoulder, “Now Kris, there’s no need to apologize. I’m actually overjoyed that you've actually found someone for yourself!”
  52. >“I-I mean about the bag, dad.” Kris muttered
  53. >“Oh, well that’s alright too,” Asgore said as he took the sweeper from Kris and swept the mess so that his son is more focused on talking
  54. >As Asgore swept, Kris fidgeted around as the feeling of uneasiness enveloped him
  55. >The deafening silence was torture to him, and with a thousand thoughts and questions running through his mind it felt like he was going mad
  56. >Unable to bear with the feeling, Kris finally spoke up
  57. >“S-so… how did you know about me and Susie, dad?” Kris asked
  58. >“You can’t hide any secrets from a parent, son.” Asgore said, taking the remnants of the spilled manure to the wastebasket
  59. >“That, and the fact that her mom comes in from time to time to buy a bouquet and tells me how Susie is head over heels for you.”
  60. >Kris’ eyes went wide as he looked at his dad in utter panic, “Susie’s mom knows too...!?”
  61. >“Oh yeah,” Asgore said has he opened the lid and dumps the manure into the bin, “I’m sure her mom is bursting her bubble as we speak.”
  62. >Kris didn't know what to say at that point, even if he could his mouth wouldn't let him form words
  63. >Both he and Susie’s relationship has been compromised, by their own parents for that matter
  64. >Kris placed his hands on his head in a fit of frustration, his mind feeling like it's being swarmed by a thousand, pissed-off wasps
  65. >Asgore could see that his son was confused and angered by all this, so once he finished cleaning up he grabbed a chair for him and Kris to sit down and talk
  66. >Though Kris caught what his dad said about him being happy for finding a girl, it still didn't stop him from feeling tense, as if his father was still gonna scorn him for it
  67. >Asgore slowly inched down into his seat and let out a slow, steady sight, “I can see that you are worried, son. So I'll say this to ease your conscious: I'm *not* going to force you to stop dating Susie.”
  68. >“But dad she’s-!” Kris paused mid-sentence and processed what his dad just said
  69. >“Wait. You said that you WEREN’T gonna say no?” Kris said in a confused tone
  70. >Asgore chuckled, “Of course not my dear boy! From what I’ve heard from her mother, you’ve made a really good impression on her. From what she says, she pays more attention in class, her grades have on up significantly, the fact that she seems more happier these days, amongst other positive things.”
  71. >Asgore patted his son on the back, which was more like getting the wind knocked out of you due to his immense strength, “Not only have you found yourself a true companion, Kris, but you’ve helped change this young girl’s life around. And as not only a parent, but a man as well, it makes me proud.”
  72. >Kris looked at his father as a warm smile began forming on the young human's face
  73. >'Wow… have I really made that much of an impact in her life? Guess I’m not as useless and hopeless as I thought I was.' kris warmly thought to himself
  74. >“Though, I have heard from around town that she’s a notorious bully," Asgore said. "Picks on the other kids at school, steals their lunch money, and all that sort of business. Is that correct?”
  75. >Hearing that made the smile on Kris' face vanish, the fear now beginning to creep up on him again
  76. >"Um... Y-yeah, she is- well has been bullying around school, as well as me. Not to mention that's she's taller than I am, but she has gotten better at being less hostile and more friendly."
  77. >Asgore took a moment to think before saying, "Well now son, if I didn't know any better I wouldn't have thought you were into mean girls.” He raised an eyebrow and gave his son a cheeky grin
  78. >Kris' cheeks began turning red, “Pfft, n-no! Of course not, dad! it’s not just because she’s some bully! Don’t be ridiculous!”
  79. >Kris’ face kept becoming more flushed with red as he looked the other way to hide his embarrassment
  80. >He would never admit it, but looking back on it now: that moment when she slammed him against the locker and threatened him to bite his face off was pretty exciting
  81. >Kris shook his head and looked back at his dad, “B-but back to what I was saying, once you get past that tough shell she has she’s actually a really sweet girl once you get to know her."
  82. >"Well then tell me more about her, son. What's she really like, and what is it that you enjoy about her?" Asgore asked
  83. >"Well, she's a really cool girl," Kris explained. "She enjoys my jokes, knows how to have fun with pranks and stuff, seems really layback, and above all else she makes me feel... happy."
  84. >"She sounds like a fine young woman for you Kris," Asgore happily said, "She must be really lucky to have found a fine young man such as yourself."
  85. >"Yeah, really lucky... I guess if it really weren't for me she'd still have a shitty look on life." Kris said
  86. >Asgore’s face turned into a look of somber, "Still? I'm assuming that she has some family issues?”
  87. >“Not really, I guess..." Kris looked at his dad as he continued to speak, "Her father died when she was little, and her mother is what you’d call a "hopeless romantic." Always going out to find some new guy only to come home miserable. Not to mention that the job she has is barely enough to pay for the house and other necessities, and from what she's told me that's why she doesn't bother to eat some days and wear the same clothes all the time.”
  88. >Asgore nodded his head as he listened, his somber look never leaving him
  89. >From the way Susanne talked to him, he never would’ve guessed that she was a widow or even having any troubles at all
  90. >Though that would explain why she’d come in to buy a bouquet of flowers
  91. >Guess she had gotten pretty good at hiding her sorrows, which Asgore can unfortunately relate with
  92. >Asgore placed his hand on his son’s shoulder, “Well son, it seems as though you’re the Angel’s answer to their prayers. Just the fact that you’ve helped Susie, which in turn may help out her mother shows how important you are in their lives. ”
  93. >Kris thought about it for a moment and let out a slight chuckle, “Now you sound like mom.”
  94. >Asgore couldn’t help but laugh as well, “I guess so, hehe.”
  95. >There was a bit of silence between the two, and nothing but the chirping of the birds outside could be heard
  96. >That’s when Asgore spoke up, “Speaking of your mother… Have you told her about Susie?”
  97. >Kris’ expression went from a look of clarity and ease to a look of uncertainty and uneasiness
  98. >“Hoo boy…” Asgore said under his breath, “Kris, why haven’t you told her?”
  99. >Kris began to explain, “I mean, I have been meaning to tell her, even Susie and I agreed that we would tell you guys about our relationship. But… we just didn’t feel… ready yet, you know?
  100. >Asgore could tell that there was a different reason, a much bigger reason
  101. >“You’re afraid that your mother will forbid you two from dating, aren’t you?” Asgore said
  102. >Kris just stared at his dad, and slowly looked towards the ground
  103. >“You know you can’t keep this from her, son." Asgore placed a hand onhis son's back, "Eventually she’ll find out one way or another, and if anything it would break her hear heart even more if you kept it hidden away from her.”
  104. >Kris looked up at his dad, his eyes filled with concern, “I’m just... scared that she won’t like Susie, Dad. I mean you know how mom is, she’s so quick to judge people for who they are without even considering what's behind them. I mean, I don’t blame her for being a teacher and seeing Susie as a bully, but I don’t want her to split our relationsh-no, our friendship because of that!”
  105. >Kris' voice began to sound unstable as he was at a boiling point of frustration and fear
  106. >He pressed the palms of hands against his eyes as he did his best to self-contain his overwealming emotions
  107. >Asgore could only look at his son with empathy
  108. >Once Kris was able to gain his composure, he cleared his and continued speaking, his head still looking at the tiled floor
  109. >“Susie... opened up to me a while back at how, through most of her life, people bullied her and treated her as if she was this big, dumb, angry monster that no one would loved because she was poor. And she truly believed that, she thought that she was going to be nothing but a big, stupid monster… at least until I came into her life, like you said. Now she’s happier than ever… and I don’t want mom to judge her past and and use that as a way to cut a line between us.”
  110. >Asgore could see that his son was hurting from bearing such information, and knew all too well how Susie felt
  111. >Just then, a revelation occurred in the elderly goat's head
  112. >“You know, Kris... Susie's situation reminds me of a situation I went through when I was your age.”
  113. >“Really...?” Kris wearily said as he looked up to his dad
  114. >“Indeed. You see, back when I was in high school, I too was treated like a big, dumb monster. I wasn’t the best with math or science, and people made fun of me for not being the smartest in the class. Now I didn't to resort to becoming a bully, but I was depressed knowing that everyone thought that I was a stupid monster. Well, that's what I thought, But there was one person who didn’t.”
  115. >Kris raised an eyebrow, “...Mom?”
  116. >“That’s right. Your mom was the one person in the entire school who saw me as this kind and gentle person, and she was the one who helped me graduate by helping me out and giving me the motivation and confidence. If it weren't for her I wouldn't have spent those wonderful years with her, and I wouldn't have two amazing sons.”
  117. >Asgore place both his hands on his son's shoulders, "Look at me, Kris. You can't be afraid to tell your mother, as your mother would fully understand the situation that Susie is in. Not to mention that she's become a much better person since meeting you. Once she sees how much she makes you happy, how can she say no?"
  118. >Kris looked at his father with dried tears, the weight that he felt about telling his mother felt much lighter
  119. >It gave him a sense that perhaps maybe his mother will listen to him and see what good there is in their relationship, and can hopefully accept it
  120. >Kris looked at his dad with a warm look and a small, but genuine smile, “Thanks, dad.”
  121. >He leaned over to his father and gave him a full hug
  122. >Asgore knew that it’s uncommon for his son to show affection very easily, so it was pretty surprising to be the receiver of the hug, but nonetheless he was happy to have helped his son
  123. >With both arms he wrapped around his son and gave him a gentle squeeze, witch even then was like having a boa constrictor
  124. >“Uh, dad… can’t breath… back… breaking...”
  125. >“Doh, whoops!” Asgore said as he let go of Kris, “S-sorry son, still don’t know my own strength.”
  126. >Kris coughs a bit before letting out a small chuckle, “It’s alright dad.”
  127. >With that, everything felt right with Kris
  128. >There was still some fear in telling his mom itching in the back of his head, but with renewed determination from his father, he will convince her that Susie was an amazing girl and that she makes him happy, no matter what
  129. >As he sat in his chair and thought about how to approach his mother, Asgore brought up something else
  130. >“You know, just like you and Susie, your mother and I had the same personalities in high school.”
  131. >Kris raised an eyebrow, “Huh, I didn’t know you were into punk stuff, dad.”
  132. >“Oh no not me son, I was the quiet guy at school. Your mother, however...” He gave his son a sly smile
  133. >Kris thought about it for a second before it hit him like a freight truck, “...Wait what?!”
