  1. How can I check for inactive URLs or 404 errors ?
  2. Hello there! You probably know that if your site have a lot of inactive URLs, in other words such that point to a 404 error, that means that Google will push them down in the ranking compared to a site that doesn't have.

  23. So here comes my question: how can I check (with an online app or a software) which are the inactive URL-s and links that point to nowhere?
  24. I remember that before I was using a software program called Screaming Frog SEO spider, but the free version allows cawing only 500 URLs, and I'm still not willing to pay for the full.
  25. Is there any other tool that I can use or can somehow change the settings of that one so it only craws and points me the 404 URLs only.
  26. Thank you!

  29. As far as I know Screaming Frog is the best in the market. If you are looking for an alternative then try WildShark Spider Tool.

  45. Use Google Webmasters Tool, and you can see the 404 error pages there or you can also use the SEOProfiler for the same. And, 404 error pages nothing to do with ranking directly but makes the bad impact on the user experience.

  48. Thank you for your prompt reply. I used online checkers for broken links anyway and I fixed the 404s.
  49. Haven't thought of GWT but I'll check it out.
  50. Thanks
  51.
  52.
  53. Yep, Screaming frog is what I use for that. Just finished a site audit this morning with it.
  54. The price isn't that bad, more so if you have multiple sites/clients.
  55.
  56.
  57. I see that in Google Webmaster Tool you can see those links with 404 error
