  6.
  7. Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:
  8.
  9. We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011,
  10. certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account
  11. information was compromised in connection with an illegal and
  12. unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this
  13. intrusion, we have:
  14.
  15. 1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
  16.
  17. 2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a
  18. full and complete investigation into what happened; and
  19.
  20. 3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our
  21. network infrastructure by rebuilding our system to provide you
  22. with greater protection of your personal information.
  23.
  24. We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill
  25. as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly
  26. and efficiently as practicable.
  27.
  28. Although we are still investigating the details of this incident,
  29. we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following
  30. information that you provided: name, address (city, state/province,
  31. zip or postal code), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation
  32. Network/Qriocity password, login, password security answers, and handle/PSN
  33. online ID. It is also possible that your profile data may have been obtained,
  34. including purchase history and billing address (city, state/province, zip
  35. or postal code). If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent,
  36. the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained.
  37. While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time,
  38. we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card
  39. data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution
  40. we are advising that your credit card number (excluding security code) and
  41. expiration date may also have been obtained.
  42.
  43. For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email,
  44. telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive
  45. information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email,
  46. asking for your credit card number, social security, tax identification
  47. or similar number or other personally identifiable information. If you
  48. are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the
  49. entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are
  50. fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your
  51. password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity
  52. user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we
  53. strongly recommend that you change them as well.
  54.
  55. To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss,
  56. we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements
  57. and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports.
  58.
  59. We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of
  60. this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working
  61. around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as
  62. possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will
  63. continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to
  64. protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and
  65. secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority.
  66. Please contact us at 1-800-345-7669 should you have any additional questions.
  67.
  68. Sincerely,
  69.
  70. Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment
