“That’s right... That boy...”

Don’t remember.

Alarm bells rang in his head, demanding that he stop thinking, but like ripples on the surface of a pond, the memory of Robert started bringing forth all kinds of other memories. They had been pursuing the stolen half-demons when they had come across a vampire. The vampire was with that boy. Darian had demanded they return the stolen half-demons, and the boy had refused. As a demonstration, he had removed mountains in the vicinity without a trace, but the boy’s will remained unchanged. And then, the boy named Takatou had said he could kill anyone just by thinking it.

That’s right. I saw him do it. He killed a number of us without doing anything.

But Darian had still thought he could win. He had the power to stop time. No matter how powerful the boy was, if time was stopped, his power would be useless. Deciding to kill the boy, he stopped time.

Stop. Don’t remember any more.

The warnings rang out more intensely. But the flood of memories was unstoppable. The moment he had decided to kill the boy, they had appeared. Countless eyes filled the space around him, every single one of them staring at Darian.

“Huh?” Darian was pulled out of his thoughts by the sense of someone nearby.

Eyes.

Eyes.

Eyes.

Countless eyes in countless shapes. In the space right beside him. On the ceiling of his tent. On Jolt’s back as he made to leave. There were eyes everywhere.

Darian screamed.

“Darian?! What’s wrong?!” Jolt ran to his side.

Darian had remembered. There was a being in this world that absolutely must not be interfered with. Once he recognized that, there was nowhere he could move, and he couldn't escape by going backwards in time.

It didn’t take long for him to lose his sanity again.

「確か…… あの 少年 は……」 　 思い出す な。 　 心 の 奥底 で 何 かが 警鐘 を 鳴らす。 だが、 ロバート を 起点 に 記憶 は 波紋 の よう に 広がり、 次々 に 新た な イメージ を 呼び覚まし て いく。 　 半 魔 が 奪わ れ て いる 事件 を 追い、 吸血鬼 が 関わっ て いる と わかっ た。 　 その 吸血鬼 を 追っ て いっ た 先 に その 少年 は い た の だ。強奪 し た 半 魔 を 返せ という ダリ アン の 真っ当 な 主張 を 彼ら は 拒否 し た。 　 デモンストレーション で 近く に あっ た 山 を 消し 飛ばし た が、 それでも 彼ら の 決意 は 変わら ない。 　 そして、 彼 は、 高遠 と 呼ば れ て い た 少年 は、 任意 の 相手 を 殺す こと が できる と 言っ た の だ。 　 ─ ─ そう だ。 僕 は それ を 目の当たり に し た。 　 何人 もの 仲間 が、 何 も する こと も でき ず に ただ 殺さ れ 続け た。 　 だが、 それでも ダリ アン は 勝てる と 思っ た。 ダリ アン は 時間 を 止め られる。 どれほど 強力 な 力 だろ う と、 時間 を 止め て しまえ ば 何 の 役 にも たた ない から だ。 　 ダリ アン は その 少年 を 殺す と 決め て、 時 を 止め た の だ。 　 それ 以上 思い出す な。 　 警鐘 が さらに 激しく 打ち 鳴らさ れる。 　 だが、 記憶 は 止めど なく 溢れ 出 て き て しまっ て、 せき止め よう が なかっ た。 　 ダリ アン が 少年 を 殺そ う と し た 時、 それ は 現れ た。 　 空間 を 埋め 尽くす よう に 現れ た 無数 の 瞳。 それ が 一斉 に ダリ アン を 見つめ た の だ。 「え？」 　 物思い に 沈ん で い た ダリ アン は、 周囲 に 溢れる 気配 に 顔 を 上げ た。 　 目。 眼。 瞳。様々 な それら が、 無数 に 存在 し て い た。 すぐ 傍 の 空間 に、 天幕 の 布 に、 出 て いこ う と する ジョルト の 背 に、 眼 は 現れ て いる の だ。 「うわ ああ ああ ああ ああ ああ ああ ああ！」 「ダリ アン どう し た！」 　 ジョルト が 駆け寄っ て くる。 　 ダリ アン は 思い出し た。 　 この世 には 絶対 に 触れ ては なら ない 存在 が いる こと を。 　 それ を 認識 し て しまえ ば、 どこ へ 行こ う と、 時間 を 逆行 しよ う と 逃れ よう が ない こと を。 　 ダリ アン が 再び 正気 を 失う までに、 たいした 時間 は かから なかっ た。
