She panted, heaved, sweat covering every inch of her tired, aching body. She stretched, trying to loosen the taut fibers beneath her skin. With the grace of a dancer, or rather a tired farmer, she leaned back and looked up once more, her twitching, flared nostrils pointed to the sky.

>...Alright... alright.... got me more development... and Ah' got me a hard choice fer' once, got ta' do princess stuff in an impossible situation... just need ta... just need ta'...

She groaned, rolling her limbs to ease the ache from her body.

>Just need ta' keep it up fer' next thread, and the ball's gonna be rollin' enough.

Behind her, a loud, poignant groan.

>Heh... wasn't talkin' bout you... this time, at least.

The near-skeletal stallion indented in the bed twitched, his white limbs merging with the sheets, both of them equally stained from sweat and... other things...

The princess's horn glowed, just for a second, just long enough that she could shoot a beam of pink down onto the stallion, to turn rib cages into meat once more, to turn an empty, dehydrated face from the prune it was back to the stern chin she knew. To call him away from death's embrace, the hug he welcomed with open arms.

>Gotta... gotta thank yer' wife fer' showin' me that... heh, real useful, ya' know. Rejuvenates ya' back ta' full charge every time... every part o' you...

Her last part was quite pointed as she gestured towards... a certain thing.

>Ya' ready fer' this, Shiny? Ya' havin' fun? This ain't over yet.

"N-no more."

She frowned, but gave him no quarter as she loomed over him once more. His voice was the same as every time, but something was... different.

>Come on, Sugar Cube, this is what ya' want, ain't it?

"...No."

>Well, too bad, cause Ah'm gonna get me more character development, and ain't nothin' ya'll can do ta' stop me.

"...oh? What about THIS."

She smelled it before she felt it. Fire. He had set fire to the room.

>...Now, sugar cube, that ain't smart.

He stared at her, defiant, unwavering, glaring up at her without a hint of fear left in him showing in the dim light the flame next to the bed had started to show.

"I disagree, this is very smart. Now, Applejack, you're going to decide. Is your character development worth it? Will you stay here, even as it all burns down? Or are you going to do what you should, and let's both leave."

She stared right back, just as unmoving, just stern, just as unblinking.

They glared to one another, heat far beyond that of any fire that was spreading throughout the room sparking between them. He needed no spell, it seemed, they could have set the world alight with this glare, and nothing else.

"What. Will. It... BE-OOF!"

She made her choice.

And he sank further into the bed as the weight was, once again, upon him. Once again, he was pinned, and was going nowhere. But this time, he did not see her back. This time, she made sure to look him right in the eyes.

"...So, that's how it's going to be, is it?"

>...Yep... one more, and then we're done.

"...good. If it's got to end..."

For the first time, his hooves were free, and reach up to go around those wide hips as much as he could, gripping her with everything he had.

"...Then I'm taking you with me. You're going down."

>Oh, Ah' am, believe you me... Ah' am. Strap in, Sugar Cube, yer' goin' for one last ride.

As the flames consumed the castle, and all burned down, if one listened, closely, somewhere in the popping wood and creaking of ceiling giving way, somewhere deep in those sounds of roaring flame and destruction... were screams.

And, for once...

It wasn't just his own.
