Chikatilo's brief arrest

For three short months (13 Sept 1984 - 12 Dec 1984), a man since revealed as probably the world's worst serial killer had been sitting behind bars. Unknown to police, he had already killed 32 people. And now he was at large again. It was not just an indictment of the police force and of the Communist society in which it operated. It was also a testimony to a ruthless murderer, so cool and calculating that he could fool police and prosecutors by killing and killing again without leaving the tiniest scrap of evidence behind him.
