- I awoke to the sound of finger tapping that pulled me out of my slumber. Asyllisus was once again cuddling me tight in front of the flames. I wriggled my way out, but made too much noise.
- “Look at you. Did you get raped last night?” I heard the Oni ask. She yawned and sat up.
- “Not that I remember.” I still had my pants on, so that was something. “How’s the leg?”
- “Still hurts like shit, but not as much as last night.” I could tell there was still some swelling even underneath the splint.
- “Well that’s good.” I responded. Things fell silent real quick. “So... how about this lockdown?” I thought some small talk would lighten the mood. Oh boy was I wrong.
- “It sucks.” She spoke before going silent again. She must not be a talker. I heard the cackling flames behind me die out. I nodded goodbye and went to go relight the fireplace.
- There was no more firewood.
- “Oh shit.” I muttered to myself. Asyllisus, the Oni and I were the only ones awake in the lobby, so I didn’t have a lot of options, instead of waking people up for help, and I wasn’t going to put people on my bad side for help. I wanted to wake her up, but she wouldn’t, she was out cold. Most likely due to it being cold. What a revelation.
- So I did what I thought would have been easy; carry her onto the other couch.
- Easier said than done.
- She must’ve weighed several hundred pounds due to her tail. I couldn’t wrap herself around me, so I basically just slumped her human half over my shoulder, dragging her snake tail behind on the carpet. I could hear the Oni snickering at my weak attempt at a fireman’s carry.
- Once I put her on the couch, I slumped next to the Oni, trying to fall asleep again.

- A scream rang in my ears as I jolted you in shock. The lobby was filled with people now, but I didn’t get what all the commotion was about.
- A drip of water that fell onto my nose chilled me to the core.
- The ceiling was caving in and a leak had sprung from right above us.
- Most of the patrons ran back to their rooms, a few begged the manager and some workers to fix the problem, while the rest cowered in fear. The Oni was with the group that was yelling, and Asyllisus was still out cold.
- A crash diverted our attention away from the leak. One of the glass doors had given away from the snow that had piled against it (which was now taller than me).
- More panic ensued until voices came from the outside.
- “We hear commotion in there! Send some aid!” The womanly voice paused before the crunching of snow came to the small hole of freedom now peeking out from the door.
- “Is everyone alright in there? We’re here to rescue you!” A portly white horn shouted. Everyone screamed in glory as the manager walked to her.
- “We have an Oni with a broken ankle and a Lamia that’s passed out.” The manager turned to us while the white horn spoke into a walkie-talkie. “Alright everyone! Wake up the rest of the guests and gather your belongings! We’re heading home!”
- ********************
- “C’mon guys! Wake up!” I shouted at Travis and Burtina. “A rescue team is here!” Travis barely opened his eyes before I tossed their clothes onto them. “Get everything together!” I said hopping on one leg trying to get a boot on.
- “W-what’s going on?” Burtina asked through her yawns.
- “We’re getting outta here!” I said with glee before tripping over a shoelace. Both got up as fast as their tired bodies could and put on their clothes.

- Many state troopers (mainly mamono used to cold climates) hustled around the lobby gathering people to escape. All three of us ran to an uniformed Hellhound who was by herself.
- “Hey! What should we do?” She looked down at a clipboard in her paws.
- “There’s rescue snowmobiles and helicopters on their way here right now. Please wait your turn.” I thanked her before noticing a group of nurses attending the Oni and Asyllisus.
- The Oni was doing just fine despite her broken leg, and was lifted off the couch.
- “Thanks, Mr...?” She spoke to me.
- “Isaac. What’s your name?”
- “Shareen.” She said before being taken away. Shareen, what a cute name.
- While I didn’t have to worry about her anymore, Asyllisus was another issue.
- Another hellhound sat next to her, covering her mouth with an oxygen tank. I was told she was alive and in stable condition, but would be passed out for a few more hours. Without a second thought, I scribbled down a message onto a small slip of paper.
- “ITS ME, ISAAC. WE MADE IT OUT JUST FINE! IT WAS NICE MEETING YOU. I HOPE WE CAN SEE EACH OTHER AGAIN SOMEDAY. 426-976-3845” Cheesy, I know.
- I slipped it into her pocket and told the trooper to make sure she got it once she woke up. I highly doubted it’d work.
- She was carried away on a stretcher, leaving me alone with my thought until our helicopter ride arrived.

- It’s been 2 years since that eventful weekend, and a bunch has happened. The resort closed down indefinitely until repairs were made, I saw on TV that Shareen had made a full recovery and was now in mamono tennis. I didn’t know she was into sports. Travis and Burtina has their first child. However, the biggest news was that Asyllisus had woken up and responded to my note.
- We got to talking, one thing lead to the next, and she moved over to me in Tennessee. We now live together as an engaged couple.
- Sometimes things in life are bad and out of your control. You have to toughen up and live through it. However, those low points can lead to bright moments in the future.
