The majority of authors I meet arent in a position to meaningfully advertise on Facebook (as you point out) and dont even know what Im talking about when I mention Facebook Pixel tracking. But it sounds like youre talking about when someone shares your Facebook posts in a group? Usually when people share my FB posts elsewhere on FB, I believe I see the attribution. Sometimes people friend request me when I post book-related content in other groups. I also typically restrict myself to one post per day to reduce the noise for others, but if I had a business page, IbelieveId be posting several times a day. Suspicious huh? I have also noticed that some of my other friends have a similar number of likes for their posts. So there are real limitations if you want to do some hard selling, conduct contests or giveaways, or otherwise be very strategic about making Facebook pay. Split Testing2. Audience6. I had a guest a while back who recommended FB profiles rather than pages, and as someone who has yet to have an official page, I continue to be biased in favor of profiles. I could post political and personal stuff all day long, and simply mark the posts as for friends only. As I started speaking and meeting writers at conferences, and especially once I started blogging, I tentatively started friending people I had virtual relationships with, but had not met. All Rights Reserved. I also believe that for some, migrating the profile to business page is a good idea. Jason Garcia tells you everything you need to know about author platform. Instead, I use my Facebook profile with the following function turned on. Your friends or followers consistently complain about your activity or report your posts as spam. Even Mark Zuckerberg himself doesnt have a fan page; he has a public profile with the following turned on, like I do. Im comfortable concluding that Im well within the terms of service, and so are most authors. It felt a little dirty, because at that time, Facebook used to ask for confirmation on how you knew someone, and if you couldnt verify it, you received an informal reprimand. Whenever I make a personal profile announcement about a new book, product, service, etc., on Facebook, it always gets extremely high engagement. I find that I end up getting more response on my personal page because that tends to be my default page and just post stuff related to my books, writing, inspiration and general stuff. good of you to share your experience on FB. And I applaude. These were the days (hard to imagine now) when few people used the site. Still, though, there might be a risk if the following describes you: You arent using your real name, or youre representing yourself inaccurately. Social media popularity follows from work popularity, and some writers just havent yet reached a sufficient level of readership to produce much activity on FB or elsewhere. This saved me time better used for my blog and Twitter (both which I enjoy much more than FB). If I publish the same post to my personal profile and my page, the post on my personal profile always gets more engagement. I get very little traffic there and find that my interactions on my profile page garner more interest in my writing 5a02188284
