MM Any% Glitchless Notes (as of 2018 route)

  1. I wrote those notes when I was learning / practicing the game. I edit them sometimes when I learn something new, when I'm given advices
  2. or just when I spot things or come out with tricks here and there. I hope it may help by some way or another people who want to learn this very fun category :).

  5. OCARINA OF TIME
  6. =======================
  7. - First time having control of Link, aim at the left of the tunnel to backwalk
  8. - After hearing the L-target sound, hold down and roll
  9. - Going to West Clock Town, try to avoid the !@#$% dog (and the Deku merchant cutscene)
  10. - Take care of where the Bomber kid goes in the intro cutscene to see if you can directly spin or if you have to wait when you get control
  11. - Not being optimal at night 3 doesn't matter as you need to wait until midnight anyway. You should not waste time before and once you entered Clock Tower, though
  12. - When talking to bomb shop don't mash B or you'll cancel the shopping
  13. - Wait until the bomb shop guy it completely sit down to talk, so you don't lose any IGT

  16. SONATA OF AWAKENING
  17. =======================
  18. - Reset after song of time, don't let the cutscene play (to get a fast reset, after I press A to choose "Yes", there is a small sound of several notes, I count 4 of these then press the Reset button. More optimal might be less, but maybe more risky).
  19. - ASAP inverted song of time to slow up
  20. - Optimally 4 sidehops to owl statue but movement and camera is hard here, so only a roll of the slope is okay
  21. - Put Deku Mask right as soon as you're in Termina field, don't wait to get bomb drop as you might see on some PB videos
  22. - If you don't have bomb drops from the first set of bushes you can still do the first room in Deku Palace normally, it doesn't lose so much time (not doing the second bomb boost loses a cycle but the timing is so tight, even by using the bomb you might have to wait anyway)
  23. - A bomb drop rate is 1/16 per bush. A set is 12 bushes so you have ~54% (more like 53.90484106...%) chance of getting a bomb drop in a single set of bushes (~79% chance getting a bomb drop in 2 consecutive sets of bushes)
  24. - Need to be human to trigger the second text box with the wounded witch, the first one can be in Deku form
  25. - Can backwalk on the slope below Potion Shop
  26. - 2nd trip to Woods of Mysteries as human
  27. - As soon as the witch cutscene ends put Deku Mask
  28. - Out of the Woods of Mysteries aim to the right pot for quick turnaround
  29. - Deku Palace right side : if the upper guard is facing your direction, wait until he turns around because he can see you even if you're jumping from fence to fence
  30. - 9 sidehops to beans dude
  31. - Roll out of beans grotto, no backwalk nor sidehops

  33. =======================
  34. WOODFALL 1
  35. =======================
  36. - Backwalk out of Deku Palace / sometimes you miss the door so spinning is okay there. To get a good backwalk position, hold Z/L target then down-left until you reach the left ledge of the wooden plate, then straight backwalk from there
  37. - As soon as entering Woodfall map, sidehop to the right to get to the lilypad
  38. - Land right on the Deku platform and mash ocarina to setup Tatl text skip
  39. - Put off Deku Mask first frame after playing / before the Temple appearing animation to skip Tatl's text
  40. - Don't hesitate to do a late turnaround in first room in order not to target the Boes
  41. - Can get a Deku stick and a Deku nut after burning web
  42. - No need to heal before Lizalfos, can try a deathwarp at Gecko
  43. - During Gecko fight, try to be near to the big chest door when you end the fight
  44. - No need to roll to the chest if you intend to deathwarp, you have to wait the bomb explosion anyway. Bonking in the chest without opening it might make you lose some time and even a bomb here

  47. GORON LULLABY
  48. =======================
  49. - No need to backwalk on the slippery ground since the it makes Link go fast only by rolling
  50. - Pull bomb out just before passing tree
  51. - Stand on the right side by exploding the snowballs
  52. - Aim at the corner of steps for quick turnaround after first backflips
  53. - You can roll a bit to the left entering Mountain Village to setup a better quick turnaround / aim at the left of the tree to get close to the owl statue
  54. - No need to refill bombs / arrows just after activating owl statue, can get them after soaring back from Lens of Truth
  55. - Stick to the right wall and enter a bit in the room to target directly the baby Goron
  56. - Going out of baby Goron's room, aim on the rock on the left of the left pillar to setup the quick turnaround, you'll be able to backwalk all the way until the exit of the shrine - the aim is precise because you don't want to lift the rock
  57. - No need to backwalk in Lens of Truth's grotto
  58. - Need to be human AND to see Darmani through Lens of Truth in order to play song of healing
  59. - Can bounce from the wall without being into spikes
  60. - With good movement you can roll with spikes into the old Goron's snowball then mash the spring water button to not get hit by the ice
  61. - Melting the old Goron : roll with spikes into the big snowball to destroy it, then mash spring water
  62. - The two first pots in the right of baby's room contain Deku sticks, the farthest one owns a big magic jar (not needed as there is a free one just after)
  63. - Play close to baby Goron to make it work
  64.  
  65. =======================
  66. FIRE ARROWS
  67. =======================
  68. - Right after soaring, just hold down then roll to get magic from little snowball
  69. - Aim to the right side of the landing board to avoid physics screw you up into the void
  70. - Can play lullaby before any movement in Snowhead map, it'll work
  71. - First room of Snowhead Temple, roll straight to hit the middle stalagmite only, so that enemies can't reach you when pushing the block
  72. - In the main room before the cutscene, go down-right
  73. - In the first key room, damage boosting onto the blocks is easier, but be careful not to pull it when pressing A
  74. - In the ice blocks room, instead of gainer in the right corner, you can jump with a precise angle from the left to grab the upper platform - this is silgthly faster but harder
  75. - For Wizzrobe fights 2nd phase, three ways to quick kill :
  76. * 3 ground pounds (Ground pound has the most hitting frames so it's easier but slower since you have to do it 3 times)
  77. * 2 punches (A bit hard to time)
  78. * 1 pound to setup, then time a butt attack (you can also time only 1 punch instead of the butt attack but for me the latter is more consistent)

  81. GOHT REMAINS
  82. =======================
  83. - For Goht, I do 1-5-9, Trev does 1-4-10 (Goht seems to charge a bit faster there), other runners do 5-10 - in any case you need to wait that Goht runs to shoot the last arrow to setup the blue warp close to Link
  84. - If you get trolled by a falling stalactite, try to slightly change your angle to the left then sidehop while shooting like a madman to avoid thunder

  87. GARO MASK
  88. =======================
  89. - Can roll in the swallow water between the two rocks of Specatcle Rock
  90. - After getting keg : aim at the left of entrance t Big Goron to quick turnaround in order to backwalk with keg until the wooden stairs
  91. - Taking the keg back to Tingle's map is faster by the right side by ~0.3s
  92. - Goron race takes approximately 30min IGT (with time slowed up) if nothing goes badly wrong
  93. - Going back to big Goron to get keg takes ~10min IGT
  94. - From Clock Town to Epona's cutscene : ~15min IGT
  95. - For Romani's minigame, try to get Epona in the direction of the balloons so shooting them is easier
  96. - From Romani to Gorman brothers : ~10min IGT

  99. HOOKSHOT
  100. =======================
  101. - Can roll fast on the sand with ESS position at the beginning of Great Bay
  102. - Try to jump out of water near to Owl statue - to be sure to land on the platform without bonking against, aim at a spot at the middle between the closest underwater rock and the platform
  103. - Can dolphin dive in Pirate's Fortress first map but dangerous
  104. - In the HP room under Pirate's Fortress, can hit the switch then sidehop not behind but in front of the barrier in order to enter into water earlier - easy setup : roll into the barrel and throw your fins in the switch, then before it hits sidehop to the right into water / can throw your fins without rolling in the barrel but more difficult
  105. - Last mine room : stick to the left wall and never get hit by mine
  106. - Can sidehop out of switch before opening gate animation, saves a bit of time
  107. - If you're unsure with your movement shoot the first Gerudo instead of trying to dodge her / if you try to dodge, she will not hear you if you roll, only if you walk
  108. - Hookshot room : can jump to the egg tank by climbing onto the open chest - setup it by backflipping a bit to the right of the chest, then aim straight to the tank, roll and jump onto it

  111. SHARP CUTSCENE
  112. =======================
  113. - Must be human to sell the golden powder
  114. - Can be whatever to buy bombs/bombchus (so can do it being Goron)
  115. - Ikana Canyon - it's better to shoot the purple bubble on horse - can go left on horse instead of right after last obstacle
  116. - Keeta quick first hit : if the bomb doesn't hit the ground yet when playing ocarina, it should be good
  117. - Can jump to Captain's Hat chest by just turning stick straight up then press A at the right timing / hookshot is safer here but costs one menu - however falling costs all the way back to chest
  118. - Darknut fight 2nd phase : mash B during the cutscene, then stand mid-range from him, and at the beginning of his attack animation press B. Do it twice to kill
  119. - No need to climb on the pedestal to learn Song of Storms, just target the tomb and press A
  120. - Can setup the hookshot to Ikana Valley, by facing the left wall while Goron, aim to the right, 3 right sidehops, then slash until reaching the ledge and hookshot from there
  121. - After activating owl statue in Ikana Valley, rolling to bombs bush provides time to get the spikes, thus making the Gibdo freezing animation a bit more easily avoidable

  124. MIRROR SHIELD
  125. =======================
  126. - Arriving to aliens at 3:15 is safe, even more is inverted song of time is active
  127. - It takes approximately 1h for aliens to arrive to house from their farthest point, maybe a bit more
  128. - Shooting all the aliens once from 4:00~4:10 is okay in order not to need to kill them anymore
  129. - Aliens disappear at 5:15
  130. - If you bonk against the wall by jumping into the well, you won't receive damage on landing
  131. - If you fail bombs strat on Poe, then you can shoot him on some frames as soon as he appears, no need to wait his attack / if you shoot him with an arrow, you can time a bomb again

  134. ODOLWA REMAINS
  135. =======================
  136. - Can shoot the torch in Woodfall's main room from the entrance of the room, no need to be close to last room's door
  137. - No need of Deku stick setup for Power Crouch Stab for Odolwa fight, just jumpslash with sword
  138. - Odolwa takes 10 hits to die, you don't need to time the last one and can hit earlier

  141. NEW WAVE BOSSA NOVA
  142. =======================
  143. - Song of Soaring doesn't work in princess's cell, must go out of the dungeon
  144. - Two sidehops on the left from ladder is okay in laboratory to drop egg
  145. - Can dolphin dive out of water more on the right in Pirate's Fortress
  146. - Can hookshot the right torch instead of the thing in the wall
  147. - Final egg tank : it feels better to dive in a corner to avoid most of enemies
  148. - If you feel you won't have enough magic for last snake, there is magic in some pots at the very bottom of Pinnacle Rock after 1nd snake - can also get magic in the leftest pot behind the lab if it won't be enough even for the first snake
  149. - After going out of Pinnacle Rock to Great Bay, void once again to be back near the beach in Great Bay
  150. - You need to be in Zora form to learn NWBN - pulling the ocarina out as human will trigger the learning animation but if you play the song nothing happens
  151.  
  152. =======================
  153. ICE ARROWS
  154. =======================
  155. - Can play quite far from Lulu to activate turtle
  156. - Big room first passage : dive into water, no jump, go a bit deep, then just before the elbow from the red pipe turn around to enter without waiting the flow cycle
  157. - For "half turnkeys" : they need to be pushed if on the right, or pulled if on the left
  158. - For BK early : don't hold A when you jump or you'll dive ; just tap A to activate the roll before the ledge
  159. - Sidehop from the yellow frame and fall straight into water, then use electric shield to kill the hand
  160. - When you arrive in the 2 Octorocks room, hold left out of the tunnel to have a smooth movement
  161. - Room before Wart has random drops in pots
  162.  
  163. =======================
  164. GYORG REMAINS
  165. =======================
  166. - Zora high ledge grab : can either press B with the right timing, or release everything (A and analog stick). The frame to press is the frame just before Link dives out from water. You can pause buffer the trick to understand the right frame
  167. - In the main room, when coming back to first room from the Tektite room, you can jump on the turning paddle on the left instead of waiting the right side to come, but it's difficult
  168. - Waterwheel-you-can-stop room : 3 ways of getting out of there :
  169. * Arriving from BK room : dodge the mines, hit the ground on the right of the pot while swimming then hold down-left and try to have a straight swim until diving out onto the waterwheel
  170. * Go to the moving platform, then jump on the waterwheel's shaft, then on the moving paddles, then climb the big paddle as soon as you can
  171. * climb onto the moving platform, then wait for the big paddles to be at 45 degrees and shoot the waterfall to get the good timing
  172. - In the room before red turnkey early you can jump straight into water and enter the passage to the main room
  173. - In the Boss door room there is magic in a pot underwater on the right when you enter
  174.  
  175. =======================
  176. ELEGY OF EMPTYNESS
  177. =======================
  178. - In the room with void, first jump with Zora
  179. - After falling into ReDead room, just tap down so the shield faces the block and instantly makes it disappear
  180.  
  181. =======================
  182. LIGHT ARROWS
  183. =======================
  184. - If no deathwarp, for Song of Soaring to work, you must be out of Igos' room, so come back in the ReDeads' room
  185. - In Stone Tower during the ascent you can hide from the Beamos' beam behind the hookshot pole
  186. - Don't play Elegy of Emptyness before the moving blocks animation when pressing a switch or you'll get an extra animation
  187. - Armos room : don't setup the bombchus if you're in a critical health state : your camera will be messed up and you'll not get the Armos. There are hearts in pots in this very room, and you're very likely to get some health in the bushes in the room before
  188. - To dive out to chest in mines' room, bounce against the ground between the two mines. If failure, can remove and put again Zora mask close to the ledge
  189. - When diving out, mash A so even if you bonk against the chest you'll open it anyway
  190. - Mirror's room : ~6-7s to light first mirror, then light the others until the beam of light disappears
  191. - Lava room : Fall on the right of the first pillar to get a smoother movement in this room
  192.  
  193. =======================
  194. TWINMOLD REMAINS
  195. =======================
  196. - Updraft Jumpslash recoil : don't release left while in the air when you fall from the ledge where you began to sidehop. Be careful not to hold up too. As soon as you enter the flow press B to jumpslash
  197. - To jump below to early Eyegore, target the hand, then shield turn down, and sidehop to the right until falling. Then with a good timing press B while holding up to jumpslash onto the platform
  198. - To get the early Eyegore kill, shoot his eye and when he's stun, shoot slightly up-right of where you shot. You can try to shoot his right arm (left from your point of view)
  199. - If you run out of magic before killing the Eyegore, it's better to do the miniboss fight and then to come back to the Eyegore. Can get magic in front of the Boss door room
  200. - Can sidehop into Twinmold hole, slightly faster
  201. - Each mold has 20HP / normal arrow inflicts 2 HP, weakness arrow inflicts 6 HP, light arrow inflicts 5 HP, bomb inflicts 2 HP
  202. - At the beginning of the fight, hold down-left until the end of the cutscene, roll, then hold left and throw the bomb. You should place it close to where the blue mold is diving. Immediatly shoot a fire arrow up to his tail.

  205. MAJORA'S MASK
  206. =======================
  207. - If not full magic you can restore magic during Skull Kid's "fight" before playing ocarina
  208. - Need to talk to Majora kid as human form
  209. - Equip Zora Mask before Majora fight starts out / if you lack arrows or magic there are two pots behind
  210. - Can jumpslash as a Zora for final hit 1st phase to save some magic
  211. - Can try a magic attack as a Zora at the very beginning of phase 2 to make Majora fall on the ground
  212. - After 1st phase you don't care anymore about magic
