  1. Ellira is in college. Need an "establishing shot" of her emotional state. Arrogant, she readily accepts professors know techniques and information she lacks, but starts from an unconscious assumption she knows better, she's wiser. She's aware of the supernatural community and most people aren't, but it's not like that matters often. She's also distinctly intelligent, and uses the term "mouth-breather" for students of more ordinary intelligence. She's fundamentally extroverted, but disdains alphasocial culture, even if she'd never think to call it that; she cares neither about academic achievements like valedictorian nor about student culture like clubs.
  2. But now, someone's advertising a new Witchcraft Club, those words, no new-agey gloss just an attitude of power. Ellira is intrigued. She attends, and it's basically this chick Rachel holding court, but she's got magic and has taught the others a little. She sprawls, she commands attention, she radiates big top energy. This club has existed informally for a while, and just newly registered. Ellira envies Rachel's position, surprising herself with a prosocial desire.
  3. The next morning, Ellira pretends nothing is happening until her dormmate Lisa leaves for class, then phones her dad about the Witchcraft Club meeting. She's going to join the club, but says it's in hopes of a new contact with the supernatural community. Her dad agrees — he's long lamented her tendency for self-imposed exile — but "your mom is still gone".
  4. Once she joins, she's invited to a monthly members-only club meeting, aimed at new members. The club has reserved this crystal cave tourist trap for an hour, in just a couple days. She goes. Rachel is holding court again. There's 4 other old members, and Ellira and this guy as new members. The crystal cave has ambient power, and the old members set up a cone of power to make newbies even more able to do a little something. The guy goes first, and producing a little light after just a few attempts earns praise. Ellira goes, ends up crackling with gridded green lightning even just during the charge-up meditation, and when she tries to use it, it lances painfully across her side.
  5. Ellira wakes up in Rachel's car, in the parking lot. Rachel gives her some bottled water and notes they healed her flank wound as well as they could. Hurt pride that they couldn't do better. Rachel offers to train her a different way, to control her innate power, rather than to provide her with power. Rachel reveals herself as a werewolf, needing the same alternate technique, and strongly implies she's curious what Ellira is, but doesn't state it. Ellira is positive but noncommittal, as if Rachel had just asked her on a date, but also distracted by her wound. Ellira wants to be the devil-may-care rebel, but she respects Rachel's authority because she covets it. She thanks her and "escapes" to her own car.
  6. There she pulls off the bandage and examines her wound. A long dark green slash, gridded lightning at the edges in the same dark green, and a faint green glow at the core. She tries to re-apply the bandage and awkwardly drives home. No respect for their medical skills.
  7. Some scattered moments of Ellira interacting with her dormmate Lisa, at class, eating "dorm food", all hindered by her new wound. She broods about this lack of excellence. She buys a fresh bandage at the store, and "has to" avoid one of the Witchcraft Club regulars.
  8. She skips the next meeting of Witchcraft Club, and afterwards Rachel stops by Ellira's dorm to check on her. Ellira kinda freaks out and goes out in the hall with her to keep her roommate from seeing, which has its own flavor of awkward. Rachel avoids looking at the door and says she still doesn't know Ellira's dorm, she just used a spell that guides her feet. Motherly, protective, still kinda intrusive. Ellira isn't sure how to respond, so she sticks to a party line that she can handle this, to get rid of Rachel.
  9. Her dormmate Lisa is starting to suspect something, and here she drops hints and makes a play to be allowed in. Lisa would be honored to be entrusted with a secret, and would help jealously hoard it, and would actually be good at keeping it. Lisa wants to be special, bringing her into the secret circle would give her specialness, and her revealing that secret would rob her of it. But Ellira keeps her out, to protect her. For now, Lisa accepts, consoling herself with the bar being higher.
