- [Animation goof, in the Japanese version, Jack's Red Dragon Archfiend has already smacked Gem Knight Pearl, so Cortez lost 400 life points, so he's down to 1600]
- (As the announcer speaks, we see a montage of shots. Exterior of the stadium. Interior, a strange shot of the control tower against the swirling pink sky, as Jack, Archfiend, and Cortez race through the bottom of the shot. Goodwin and Lezar in the control tower. Mina, watching from the top of the stands. Sayer, in his corner. Yusei, Tanner, Yanagi, Luna, Leo, and Dex in the stands.)
- Announcer: Welcome back to the Fortune Cup finale, where the Master of Faster Jack Atlas already has a commanding lead! Can the Mysterious Duelist Cortez Blackful catch up? Or will this be his final lap? Let's watch and see!
- Luna (looks up, gasps): What's that?
- (All look up and 'huh'; the sky is ominously clouding over.)
- Leo: I don't think the forecast called for scary purple clouds!
- Yanagi: It's... a sign...! The Crimson Dragon is coming! And if *he's* coming then we should all get going!
- Tanner: Take it easy, gramps. I mean, it's probably just some acid rain drifting in from the Satellite.
- Yusei: That's not just any acid cloud. Whatever it is, it's not good.
- (Up in the control tower)
- Goodwin: It's the sign we've been waiting for. Soon the Crimson Dragon will awake from its long slumber.
- Lezar: Um, just one question about all that. I thought we needed *five* Signers, no? At this point, we just have the four-- the little girl, Akiza, Yusei, and Jack. Besides, are we even sure that we can control the Dragon's power once it's been summoned? Perhaps Trudge had a point. Besides, our new visitor is not Signer.
- (Flashback.)
- FB Trudge: Director? Look, sir, there's something I've gotta say.
- FB Goodwin: Mmm?
- FB Trudge: It's my official position that you need to stop this tournament.
- FB Goodwin: I *thought* your official position was mall security.
- FB Trudge: Very funny. But I feel this tournament is *cursed* or something! *You* witnessed the damage of the last duel! I'm concerned things are gonna get worse!
- (End Flashback)
- Goodwin: Lezar, don't you trust me? You see, I know the fifth Signer.
- Lezar: That's good. If you know, then I'll just watch this match and rela-- (huge gasp) Wait, you know?! Who is it?! Ah-are they here?! How exciting!! Then that means we can unlock all of its power!!!
- Goodwin: That's right, Lezar. As for our visitor from a distant future, he may not be a signer, but his powers are similar to one. But first, we must see if we can harness the immense power the Crimson Dragon's summoning will create. <4:00>
- (Lezar laughs diabolically.)
- (On the field)
- Cortez: It's my turn, Jack! (think) And It's time I even up the playing field! (aloud) First I'll summon Summoner Monk!
- [Summoner Monk/800/1600/L4/Dark]
- Cortez: Now I have to discard a speed-spell to summon another monster that's level 4! So I'm summoning, Heroic Challenger Extra Swords!
- [Heroic Challenger Extra Swords 1000/1000/L4/Earth]
- Cortez: And now I overlay my Summoner Monk and my Extra Swords, in order to xyz-summon Number 39 Utopia!
- Yanagi: Oh, my, this is amazing!
- Yusei: And it's about to get even better.
- Leo (cheering w/ Dex): Cortez!!!
- Cortez: Time to speed up!
- [Number 39: Utopia 2500/2000/R4/light]
- (The number 39 glows in red. At the core of Utopia's armor stands a helical structure in gold, and a glowing core. Its overlay units orbit in sparks of gold. From it extend the blades of golden wings, and strong arms, and golden shoulder plates. Its armor unfolds and extends, ultimately forming a gigantic robotic warrior with white metal wings, double swords, and white and gold armor.).)
- (Jack's mark starts glowing.)
- Jack: Been waiting to finally meet you, Utopia, so welcome to the party.
- (Luna's arm is glowing)
- Luna: Oh...
- Yanagi: Eeee...!
- (Yusei's mark glows as well.)
- Yusei: Ugh..!
- (Back in a relaxation pod somewhere, Akiza exhaustedly stares at her glowing arm)
- Akiza: Uh!
- (Back at the duel)
- Announcer: This is the moment we've been waiting for! So get ready, 'cause these two monsters are about to battle it out!
- Announcer: Welcome back, and it's dragon versus dragon!
- (Archfiend roaring at Utopia, ready to do battle with him.)
- (At Zigzix's reactor, the scientists are frantic, and the generator is crackling and sizzling with overflowing energy.)
- - The energy reactor!
- - What's happening?!
- (Zigzix is reading the same crazy off-the-charts energy, hugely excited.)
- Zigzix (huge gasp): Incredible! Director, are you getting all this?! The readings are off the charts! Nyahahahaha! (singsong) The Crimson Dragon--- (dramatic) it's *here*!!
- (Back at the duel)
- Cortez: And now, Extra Swords' special ability activates! Ya see, Jack, when it's part of a xyz-summon as a overlay unit, the new monster gets an extra one thousand attack points! So now my Utopia's got thirty-five-hundred!
- Jack: Well then I guess I'll play my trap card-- "Conscription"! This enables me to look at the top of your deck, and if it's a monster, I can take control, if not, you can keep the added card.
- (Cortez saw as Hyper Synchron was pulled to Jack's field.)
- Jack: Hmph! Hyper Synchron, eay? Guess you should've taken that card out, so I wouldn't use it!
- [Hyper Sunchron//L4/Light]
- Announcer: Whoa! Cortez's Hyper Synchron got out-monstered by Jack, two to one!
- Cortez: Well then, Utopia, why don'tcha even up the playing field!
- Jack: Come on! That pathetic whelp's no match for me and *my* deck! I trigger the trap card "Tuner's Mind"! And this is just one example of why I'm the Master of Faster, and you're a worthless wannabe! Now I can de-tune my Dragon to double my defense.
- Cortez (think): Oh, man. If I don't take out 'is Twin Sword Marauder, he'll just use it to bring out his Red Dragon Archfiend all over again next round. Guess that leaves me just one thing to do. (aloud) Utopia! Attack Twin Sword Marauder with Rising Sun Slash! (Dark Tinker blocks) No way!
- Jack: Surprise, surprise. Y'see my trap forces you to attack my Dark Tinker. When're you gonna learn that you'll never be a match for me, mate? I'll beat you in front of the whole world, just like I beat Yusei the same way back in the Satellite.
- Cortez: Ugh! Well then, how about I shoot you down with a good card, tiwht my trap, "Just Desserts"! Now it can damage you for five hundred points for every monster on the field! So for, there are three, so that's fifteen hundred points of damage!
- (Jack lp 1500)
- Jack: The difference between us is that I can afford it! Now I can draw another card!
- Cortez: It won't help you, Jack.
- (Scoreboard. Cortez, 1600, 4; Jack, 1500, 3.)
- Jack: Oh really, mate? (draw; it's Crimson Fire) I tune Hyper Synchron with Twin Sword Marauder, in order to synchro-summon Red Dragon Archfiend one more time!
- (Hyper Synchron lets four stars out of the cosmic cupboard on its chest, and Twin Sword Marauder flies through the aligning green rings. First one mighty claw, then another, stretches out of the bright light. The dragon's eyes glow yellow, and its feral smile is not unlike that of its master.)
- Jack (menacing): Let's kick this turbo-duel into overdrive.
- (Jack goes into a backward skid.)
- Jack: And thanks to your Hyper Synchron's ability, it adds eight hundred attack points, now helping me with *my* synchro-summon, *I* get to reap the benefits of its power as well. After I win this, Yusei's Stardust Dragon is mine! I'll even take your Utopia to be even more of a mighty champion to be invincible!.
- (Archfiend roars as its points rise to 3800.)
- Jack: Ready?
- Cortez: Bring it!
- Jack: Consider it brought!
- (Utopia and Res Dragon Archfiend clash, and separate.)
- Cortez: Utopia is a number monster, and only a number can destroy a number, and since Hyper Synchron was used for a synchro-summon, neither monster can be destroyed now!
- (Cortez's lifepoints fall to 1300.)
- Jack: Good thing I've got *this*, then! My trap Field Cannon!
- (Cross-checked as "Fiend Cannon")
- Cortez: Rrrgh!
- Jack: Now *you* lose five hundred lifepoints, 'cause I *couldn't* destroy your monster!
- Leo: Cortez, no!
- Tanner: This isn't good. Cortez'd better think of something, fast.
- Yanagi: I couldn't agree with ya more, Tanner, especially with those clouds circling around like that!
- (The clouds, now in dark, murky grays, are indeed swirling with downright unnatural menace. As they look up at them again, huge red flashes of lightning begin shooting out of the clouds, and form into one huge bolt that strikes through the image of Jack and Yusei on the Sphere, and forces the two dragons apart.)
- Yusei: I think we're about to see it!
- Jack: Here it comes!!
- Cortez: The Crimson Dragon!
- Luna: Ohh...
- Tanner: Sweet...!
- Yanagi: Th-th-this is bad!
- (The lightning resolves itself into a familiar shape, one all too familiar from the marks on the Signers' arms: Jack's mark is its wings; Yusei's, the tail; Akiza's and Luna's are its claws; and it bells its characteristic cry, strange but somehow musical. It is now flying alongside Utopia and Archfiend, keeping each to one side of it. Cortez could feel what's happening as well, even when he didn't have a mark.)
- (The announcer rubs his eyes.)
- Announcer: I-- I see it! But I do not believe it!!
- (Crowd)
- - It's a second dragon!
- - Hold on, who summoned *that* thing to the field?!
- Yanagi: The Crimson Dragon! It's...huge...!
- (Luna is looking at her mark, worried)
- Luna: My arm... it's glowing again...
- Yusei: Mine too...!
- (Mina gasps aloud, watching from the top of the stands. She can't believe her eyes.)
- (Sayer, in his corner, looks thunderstruck. His eye twitches.)
- Sayer: It can't be. They actually awakened you? Now I really must have that kid!
- (Goodwin and Lezar in the control tower. Lezar's eyes and mouth are wide open with joy.)
- Goodwin: Beautiful, isn't it? So much power. Lezar, get me Zigzix now.
- Lezar (bows): Hm.
- (The D-Tector is going past the yellow; Zigzix is stoked)
- Zigzix: It's working! We're absorbing the Dragon's Ener-D! Ah! I've never seen something so powerful! Hahahaha-hahahaha!
- (Goodwin appears on a holoscreen)
- Goodwin: Zigzix... you must shut down the reactor immediately.
- Zigzix: Y-excuse me? <10:00> ... But, it's working perfectly! There's enough Ener-D here to power the City for a hundred years! It's a success!
- Goodwin: We must be cautious. Zigzix, if you don't shut the reactor down immediately... then there might not be a City left to power. I'm *sure* that you understand.
- (He hangs up before Zigzix can respond.)
- Zigzix: Won't be a City left? Uhh...
- (Out on the floor near the reactor, a computer voice is issuing a warning)
- Computer: Warning. The Ener-D reactor is overloading. Please shut down core. Meltdown is imminent.
- Zigzix: Meltdown...?! Oh please, not again! We can't let what happened to Greiger's village happen here! (He flashbacks to it) Aah!
- (Out on the floor, dozens of screens of Zigzix's face suddenly appear)
- Zigzix: We must shut down the reactor immediately!!!! That dragon has the power to destroy everything in New Domino City!!!!!!
- (Back at the duel, the Crimson Dragon now soars over the duel along with Utopia and Archfiend.)
- (The Crimson Dragon is soaring right over Jack and his Red Dragon Archfiend; it's so big, it could easily grip Archfiend in one of its claws.)
- Jack: Crimson Dragon, welcome to my arena! Now watch and witness how your future master rules this duel!
- Cortez: Jack! Be careful! The Crimson Dragon might rip this place apart and everyone in it!
- Jack: Don't tell me you're *scared.* I am a Signer, kid, and you're not! This is my destiny! Goodwin told me that the power of the Crimson Dragon will help me save this world! But first, with it's power, you'll either feel it's wrath, or surrender the duel and bow to me! The choice is yours!
- Goodwin (think): And it shall, Jack. But you will not fight the darkness that is coming alone. Legend says that once all five Signers are gathered, the future can be revealed. So with the power *I* possess as the fifth Signer, I will now show you what our enemy plans!
- (Goodwin reaches his right hand forward toward the window...
- (...But we see another arm, one in a tank of liquid with the Sign of the Dragon's head glowing on it.)
- (The other four Signers' Signs react immediately; Jack look at his, Yusei, Luna and Akiza wince; the Crimson Dragon roars and a winds whips up, obscuring everyone's view. The audience yells and shields their faces.)
- Jack: What's going on?!
- Cortez: Augh!
- (The Crimson Dragon swoops down, grabs the two duelists in its claws, and rises into the sky over the stadium, shining brilliantly as it spreads its wings with an unearthly cry.)
- (Yusei, Luna and Akiza moan, and find themselves thrown into a vision.)
- (Surrounded on all sides by stars and empty night sky, Jack, Cortez, Utopia, and Archfiend race along a shining white path on their runners.)
- Cortez: Where are we?!
- Jack: Beats me.
- (Two shining red globes come flying after them; one contains Luna, the other Akiza, as though they're protected by magic soap bubbles.)
- Luna: Where's the stadium?! What's going on?!
- Akiza: I don't know...!
- Yusei: I think I found them
- Akiza: (spots the duel below them) Cortez!
- (The first thing they see as they approach a vision is the red star; then a central-american-style pyramid comes into view before them)
- Jack: Look there!
- Luna: Yusei, Akiza... I'm scared.
- (Before the temple, hundreds of people are bowing on the ground. At the top of it, five people stand with their arms upraised)
- Jack: Cortez, they look exactly like the People of the Stars!
- Cortez: What are they *doing* here?!
- (The shining path takes them up and over the pyramid; as they pass over, Yusei is the first to spot the glowing symbols on the arms of each of the five people)
- Yusei: Are those Signers?
- Cortez: Hey, Jack! They're all Signers down there!
- Jack: Like us! Goodwin told me about these people! He said somehow we're all linked to the Crimson Dragon!
- (Then came next to original Signers was the celestial being, Astral. He looks up to the pyramid and appears a number card, Utopia.)
- Cortez: I've seen this celestial alien! He's the one that gave me the card! Right now I have Utopia, so he must've given me more!
- (The pyramid is past, and next they're approaching a small, scorched-looking island off the coast of a larger mainland, with a large crater visible near its center.)
- Yusei: Down there looks a lot like the Satellite.
- (Suddenly purple flames shoot up from part of it, toppling whole buildings instantly in a ruthless line of destruction)
- Luna: Uh! What's happening?!
- (The flames race through the Satellite, with unnatural precision; the fire is making a pattern.)
- Akiza: Luna! Look there! Is that a giant spider surrounding New Domino City?!
- (Now the purple flames below them have drawn a glittering violet spider, big enough that a few of its feet dip into the dark ocean around the Satellite, and the buildings are consumed by the flames.)
- Cortez: I can't believe this is happening!! We have to stop it!
- Jack: It can't be real...! Perhaps it's the future!
- Cortez: Well if that's the future then we'd better stop this duel right now! We gotta get home!!
- Jack: We will... once we finish this.
- Cortez: What?!
- Jack: Cortez, this is a *duel*! The Crimson Dragon won't let either of us go back until one of us *wins!*
- Cortez: Come on!
- Jack: Don't you get it? Dueling brought us here and dueling's gonna bring us back home! And whoever wins will show the Crimson Dragon they deserve the power to save the world! And I'm gonna be that person! Remember, I am here to smash you! This is for the signer! We don't need you in the of the Signer's mission! I throw down two facedowns!
- Cortez: You're insane!
- (They left the scoreboard behind in the stadium, but both runners' counts of speed counters rise; they now have 6 each.)
- Cortez: But if you wanna keep dueling, you'll get more than you bargained for, Jack! I just activated "=Speed Energy"! It gives two hundred more attack points for every speed counter I have, and look how many I *have*! That's right, five, so that's a thousand attack points! Utopia-- attack Red Dragon Archfiend and take us home!
- (Jack's lp 300; he screams.)
- Jack (think): That attack... I can *feel* it! Like it was real! I guess the Crimson Dragon wants Cortez an' I to play for keeps! Well that's just fine by me! It'll give me more the power to put the hurt on him more!
- Cortez: I set three cards facedown and end my turn.
- Jack: And you thought *I* had short memory. Since Hyper Synchron helped summon *both* our monsters out, neither one can be destroyed in battle!
- Cortez: So it's a stale mate then, so get ready to make a move!
- Jack (think): two facedowns? Looks like Cortez's makin' his big move. Too bad it's too late!
- (The two cards in Jack's hand are "Speed Spell - The End of the Storm" and "Speed Spell - Overboost".)
- Jack (think): No matter what he's got hidden, my speed spell Overburst (sic) will destroy it! (aloud) Here we... go! (draw)
- (Both sets of speed counters increase to 6.)
- Jack: I can't crush your xyz monster, but I can still take out your lifepoints! Go, Red Dragon Archfiend! Attack!
- Cortez: Ugggh!
- (Cortez's lifepoints are now at 500.)
- Luna: Cortez!
- Akiza: He's really hurt! It's just like when *I* duel people!
- Yusei: What's worse, Jack's grudge against him it gonna get Cortez hurt real bad!
- Cortez: What was that?! I could *feel* his attack!
- Jack: That's right, Yusei-- this duel is *winner take all!* This is the perfect way to be rid of you for changing the destiny!
- Cortez: Jack-- the damage we take in this duel is *real*!
- Jack: That's right, pal, and now you'll see what it's like to duel with more than just your lifepoints on the line!
- Cortez (sigh): You don't know if that's true! But if it is, then I plan on defending myself and taking you down! Go on and make a move!
- Jack: Don't worry, I will! In fact *I'll do it right now*! I activate the "Speed Spell - Overboost"!
- (He suddenly zooms ahead.)
- Jack: So now I get four extra speed counters this round, nearly maxxing me out!
- Cortez: With that much power, there's no telling what he'll play next!
- Jack: That's right. So get ready for me to call on one of my favorites-- now from my hand, I play the speed spell End of a Storm!
- (This card is known as "Speed Spell - The End of the Storm". A huge wind blows up, once again obscuring the field)
- Jack: And with the power of this card, I can now put you in your place! Looks like we'll have to have *Tie* for this!
- Cortez: There's not gonna be a tie, Jack! And that's because trap "Dark Bribe". Now this card can counter your End of Storm!
- Jack: Perhaps, but the cost of that will only allow me to draw a card! (draw)
- (Jack looks at the card and smiles.
- Jack: now to really finish you! I activate "Sonic Buster!"
- Yusei: If that damage succeeds, he's finished!
- Jack: Now by taking half of Red Dragon's attack points, you take that damage to you! So goodbye!.
- (The blast shoots straight to Cortez.)
- Cortez: I'm not going anywhere, I play my trap! "Rainbow Life! Now any damage to me gets added to my life points!
- (Cortez's lp 2400)
- Jack: Rrrgh. You're still as annoying as ever! Get lucky all you want! 'll find your weak point! I'll break you somehow! I just know it!
- Luna: Jack's lost it!
- Yusei: He'll find a way to shut him down!
- Cortez: I never was one to give up, and with your speed counters about to run out of gas, I don't plan on starting any time soon!
- (Jack skids a bit and decelerates rapidly as he loses the added four speed counters, and plunges-- into second place! Cortez is now leading, is now the one looking back over his shoulder)
- Cortez: How's the new view?
- (Jack looks as though he's beginning to contemplate defeat; Cortez is resolute as he looks over his shoulder. Then he races ahead into the distance, Utopia soaring after him)
- Cortez: See ya, Jack! Time to get us home!
- (He draws; his speed counters rise to 7. His draw is "Speed Spell - Final Attack".)
- Yusei: I play my trap, Reckless Greed! Now I can draw two card, at the price of not drawing any for two turns! Now I play my own Overboost! Giving me four more! (11 speed counters.) And now I play Final Attack! And since I have eight or more speed counters, the attack points of my Utopia are doubled!
- Jack: seven thousand! It's too powerful!
- (Archfiend has 3800)
- Cortez: I don't wanna hurt you, Jack, but if ending this duel is the only way home, then I gotta attack! Number 39 Utopia! Take out 'is lifepoints!
- Utopia's armor has turned red and black, but its wings and swords still shine gold as it brings them down on Archfien. He lets loose a devastating golden slash to race back along the track. It's big enough to engulf Jack and Archfiend both, and they're driving right into it. Archfiend roars; Jack lets out a heart-rending scream of pain...)
- (...and suddenly they're back in the real world. Jack's runner all but falls out of the sky, throwing its rider to the ground as it flips over, sparking and flaming. Corte side-skids hard to curb his momentum and comes to a halt at the other end of the track, breathing heavily. Above them, the holograms, or actualities, of Utopia and Archfiend have frozen in place, angrily face-to-face, seconds from clashing, frozen in time, and turned grey, as though made of stone. The announcer sounds like he's trying very hard not to panic.)
- Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, we seem to be experiencing some technical difficulties at this moment. Your patience is appreciated as we try to sort this matter out. (harsh whisper) Can someone tell me why these two clashers have been frozen in midair?! Get the Director on the line!
- (The dragons begin to blur, as though the holograms are breaking up, then glow blindingly and vanish into sparkles.)
- Tanner: What just happened?!
- Yanagi: First they were dueling, then they disappeared, now they're back and their monsters are gone!!!
- (Leo's eyes are huge, his mouth hanging open; everyone but Luna is frantic and freaked; Luna looks calm, but troubled.)
- Leo: Ah!! Look there!!
- (He points; the scoreboard now reflects the duel-- Cortez 2400 lifepoints, 11 speed counters; Jack 0 lifepoints, 2 speed counters.)
- Leo: Check out Jack's lifepoints!
- Dex: Izzat the right score?
- Luna: Yusei won. He's the champion now.
- (Yanagi and Leo gasp)
- Yusei: Told'ya he could do it.
- (Up in the control tower, Lezar has his face and both hands pressed up against the glass; Goodwin has his hands behind his back and looks austere; Lezar whimpers, eye twitching, then wails...)
- Lezar: Jack lost!!!
- (Cortez runs over to Jack.)
- Cortez: Are you okay?!
- (Jack struggles to look up at him.)
- Jack: You beat me... I don't know how you did it, mate... but you're the champ, now.
- Cortez: If that vision was true, none of this matters. Because it looks like we *all* might lose. We're in danger and our cities might be destroyed, and we have to unite to stop it from happening!
- Jack: You tell that to Yusei. He always wanted to be a hero... So give him his chance.
- (He faints)
- Announcer (frantic): Igh...! Has anyone heard from the Director?! Mm?
- (A holoscreen of Goodwin appears)
- Goodwin: The duel's over. The winner's Yusei; tell them all.
- Announcer: Ugh...Ah... Guh!
- (The announcer's face appears on the screen, then transitions to show Cortez's. Every holographic screen in the stadium shows Cortez's face; fireworks burst in the sky behind a larger-than-life holographic statue of Yusei.)
- Announcer: It's-- over!! Cortez is our winner! From the refuge of refuse he rose! Appears out of nowhere, he now reigns supreme! I proudly present New Domino City's newest hero-- Corteeeeeeez Blackful!
