  1. >Day Shopping in Equestria.
  2. >The bell hanging above the department store's door jingles as you and your family enter.
  3. >A clerk behind a desk smiles as you walk further into the building, red vest giving off a small sheen.
  4. >”Welcome. Let me know if you need any help.”
  5. “We will, thanks.”
  6. >For some reason hearing employees offer to help you always bugged you.
  7. >Whether it be from a human or a pony, that same hollow offer felt annoying.
  8. >”Come on Hope, let's see if we can't find anything here that you want.”
  9. >Lyra and Hope both head towards the mare's section of the store
  10. >Letting off a sigh, you head towards the furniture department, letting your daughter browse another store where she would find nothing of interest to her.
  11. >It was the weekend before she started school and she had been moping around the house for a few days.
  12. >If you had to guess, it would be a mixture of nerves and not wanting another hair cut.
  13. >She was able to continuously push it off by pulling at your heartstrings.
  14. >With good reason.
  15. >Pony's couldn't cut her hair without pulling and you lacked the skill to leave it in a way where she still looked female.
  16. >Lyra decided that getting a small gift might cheer Hope up.
  17. >So far, there's been no luck.
  18. >A small crash grabs your attention.
  19. >”Sorry mommy.”
  20. >Her hair had gotten so long that she was nearly blinded by it now.
  21. >You blame your genes for that.
  22. >The way her hair grew was a strange mixture of Lyra's and your own.
  23. >It seemed to spike a bit near the center where it wouldn't bother her eyes, but the sides drooped straight down and acted like two blinds when long enough.
  24. >Grimacing, you know you will have to fight with her to cut it today.
  25. >Letting of another sigh, you look over new furniture for the house.
  26. >The store had a surprisingly varied assortment of sizes available.
  27. >Some of the stuff looked to be large enough for Minotaurs.
  28. >Which may just work out well for you.
  29. >... Very well.
  30. >In front of you is a recliner, one covered in soft plush looking cushioning and it's large enough for you to practically sleep on.
  31. >Stepping closer, you decide to test it.
  32. “Oh lord...”
  33. >Looks aren't always deceiving.
  34. >This chair was made for your ass and back.
  35. >You MUST have it!
  36. >Grabbing the tag, you debate on whether this is a good deal or a rip off.
  37. >On one hand, it is made for the size of Minotaur's and has a price that reflects it.
  38. >On the other, Lyra might strangle you if you bought this without consulting her.
  39. >Well, not strangle... deny sex or give you -the look-.
  40. >Your wife wasn't a violent mare, but she had a way to get people to move how she wanted without manipulation.
  41. >It was a bit creepy, but strangely arousing.
  42. >No one mare should have all that power.
  43. >”Excuse me sir?”
  44. >The clerk from before is speaking to you, causing you to stand and cough.
  45. “Yes?”
  46. >”If you are interested in buying that chair, we are having a sale in a few days. I would recommend putting it off until then.”
  47. >Wow, that was surprisingly generous.
  48. “Er, thanks. I'll keep that in mind.”
  49. >The stallion nods and resumes patrolling the store.
  50. >Well, looks like you'll be going home with a recliner soon enough.
  51. >You wonder what else this place has.
  52.
  53.
  54. >Cocking your head, you are staring at a nice sized wooden chest.
  55. >It's not too expensive, comes in oak or pine, looks like something Hope would actually want to use, and is bigger than the plastic one she has at home.
  56. “Hmm...”
  57. >”Still browsing, sir?”
  58. >The same stallion has been helping you whenever you looked interested in something.
  59. >From what he's told you, he's also been trying to help Lyra and Hope.
  60. >With little success, but still.
  61. “Actually, does this come built or is assembly required.”
  62. >He looks at a tag glued to the side and smiles.
  63. >”Well, it looks like this model comes pre-built, but there is a delivery fee.”
  64. “What? It can't be that heavy.”
  65. >He steps aside and you try to lift the mid sized wooden box.
  66. >...
  67. >Okay, maybe it is that heavy.
  68. “Agh, how much is the delivery fee?”
  69. >”Not that expensive sir, just a few bits extra. Average is seven to twelve for purchases of this size.”
  70. >Well, it's affordable.
  71. “All right, can I take one of these in oak?”
  72. >The stallion pulls out a notepad and pen from his vest, scribbling down the product number before making his way back to the front desk.
  73. >”Very good sir, I'll ring it up for you when you are ready to leave.”
  74. >Good kid.
  75. >Continuing into the store, you find yourself in the -womens- section.
  76. >Guess it was built with other species in mind after all.
  77. >”Hi daddy.”
  78. >Looking around, you see Hope and Lyra.
  79. >Your daughter is smiling, eye's beaming wide.
  80. >Lyra walks towards you, a softer smiler than her daughter's.
  81. >”Well, we finally found something Hope wants.”
  82. “What? Really?”
  83. >The excited Satyr girl nods and points to a glass case.
  84. >Stepping forward, you peek inside it.
  85. >The case is filled with various jewelry and accessories.
  86. >Her finger seems to be pointing to a gaudy shell necklace.
  87. “You want a necklace?”
  88. >”No! Next to the necklace.”
  89. >She wags her finger left and you shift your gaze.
  90. >There are two very large hair clips inside.
  91. >They look to be just a bit smaller than your fists.
  92. >Expensive too.
  93. “Hope, are you sure you want these?”
  94. >”Uh huh! I do daddy!”
  95. >Rubbing your chin, you look over to Lyra.
  96. >”Heh, she's been here practically begging for them for five minutes. I'm pretty sure she wants them dear.”
  97. >Nodding you look to Hope.
  98. “If we get these for you, you'll have to take care of them.”
  99. >”I will!”
  100. “No, I mean really take care of them. Make sure they don't break, you don't lose them, and treat them well.”
  101. >”I will daddy!'
  102. “Promise me Hope.”
  103. >”Pinky promise?”
  104. >You smile as you extend your pinky out.
  105. “That's right.”
  106. >Lyra giggles, clearly thinking of the OTHER Pinkie promise that you two would use back in Ponyville.
  107. >Hope wraps her pinky around yours and you two shake.
  108. “Okay. They're yours then Hope. Treat them well and don't break your pinky promise.”
  109. >She nods and hugs you, then rushing to hug her mother.
  110. >As if on cue, the clerk appears.
  111. >”Did your daughter find something she likes?”
  112. “Yeah, see those two hair clips. Ring them up with the chest, please.”
  113. >”Right away sir.”
  114. >The stallion unlocks the case and grabs the clips, heading back to the front desk.
  115. >Lyra steps next to you, a small smirk on her face.
  116. >”Chest?”
  117. “A little thing I thought Hope could use.”
  118. >”Mhmm. Did you find anything for yourself?”
  119. “Well, there was this one recliner, but it's going on sale soon. I can think about getting it then.”
  120. >Your wife pulls you down and plants a soft peck on your cheek.
  121. >”Well, I'm sure you deserve a reward for being so patient with us aaand thinking of your daughter~”
  122. >Chuckling, you know where this is going.
  123. >You run a hand down her cheek, giving her a soft kiss before looking to Hope.
  124. >”Come on, we still have to go pay for everything.”
  125. >Your daughter nods, walking behind you and jumping on your back.
  126. >Placing a hand under her thighs, she wraps her hands around your neck.
  127. >Lyra places her hoof in your free hand as you carry your daughter to the front of the store.
  128.
  129.
  130. >”Are they on yet daddy?”
  131. “Almost, you need to stop squirming.”
  132. >Making a final adjustment, you let go and look your daughter's head over.
  133. >You think you may have figured out why she wanted them so large.
  134. >Every stray hair that was blinding her is now neatly fitted in on the hair clips.
  135. >It makes it look like Hope has two bushels of hay sticking out of the sides of her head.
  136. >It works though, considering some of the other hair styles you've seen.
  137. >Besides, she looks down right adorable with her hair as long as it is mixed with the cheek to cheek smile she has.
  138. >”Can you give me the mirror daddy?”
  139. >Handing the little girl the mirror, she looks herself over.
  140. >”Heh, I don't need a haircut now, do I?”
  141. >Lyra giggles, petting her daughter on the head with her hoof as gently as she can.
  142. >”No, not a hair cut. You just need a trim now.”
  143. >Fear sweeps over Hope's face.
  144. >”B-But the hair isn't in my eyes anymore.”
  145. “No, but it is sticking out in a few places. We'll just cut off the extra long strands so they match with the others, okay?”
  146. >She gulps and nods.
  147. >”No hair cut?”
  148. >Taking your daughter's hand, you lead her towards the bathroom.
  149. “No hair cut.”
  150. >Sitting her on the toiler, you grab a pair of scissors and make quick work of the out of place strands.
  151. >Hope quivers the entire time.
  152. >Smiling, you pet her head and hand her the mirror.
  153. “All done.”
  154. >She lets off a confused grunt and looks in the mirror.
  155. >”I still look like a girl!”
  156. >Lyra bursts out in laughter, heading towards the kitchen.
  157. “Heh, yes you do. Now come on, it's time for dinner.”
  158. >Hope jumps off the seat, grabbing your hand while giving you another front tooth-less smile.
  159. >You only pray she doesn't break her promise and keeps those expensive clips safe for a good long time.
