  1. Hi Everyone, foo here with a very powerful video for you today. We're talking the Pokemon equivalent of WMDs - a catclysmic, high power, high risk normal type attack - HYPER BEAM! This iconic attack has insane damage potential, but requires that the user recharges its exhausted energy the following turn, leaving them open to attack or, potentially worse, allowing their opponent a completely free turn to set up for a revenge sweep!
  2. Despite this worrying flaw, a select handful of Pokemon are capable of wielding this immense power effectively. Today we'll be counting down the top ___ users of Hyper Beam and looking at how they mitigate its drawbacks in different ways to utilize one of the most devastating moves in the Pokemon universe.

  5. A few Pokemon have access to some interesting and enviable abilities that change normal type attacks to their STAB typing and at the same time give the attacks a 1.2x damage boost. Examples of these abilities are Refrigerate, Aerilate and Pixilate. Combining Hyper Beams already terrifying 150 base power with a 1.2x power boost and a STAB boost on top of that, we're looking at some insane power. Not only that, but most of the Pokemon that gain access to these abilities are Mega Pokemon with incredibly high attacking stats to reinforce the damage further. Good examples are M-Glalie, M-Salamence, and the most powerful, M-Gardevoir.
  6. But even here, these Pokemon seldom use Hyper Beam in competitive battles because it comes with such high risk, and the alternatives are still powerful but much safer. However, there is one metagame where Hyper Beam is almost the first choice of attack for such pokemon - 1v1: you and your opponent pick only one POkemon to battle with, meaning battles are super fast. usually only 1 or 2 turns. Hyper Beam gives you the opportunity of 1HKOing your opponent, without having to think about the recharging consequences the following turn. Hyper Beam Gardevoir is a monster in this format and is just so satisfying to use! As long as you get the match up right, you can watch your opponents melt before the almight beam!
