  3. This route is a variation of the main route, located here:

  7. All changes in this route are noted with respect to the original route, and it is implied that you use that as the reference point for everything contained here.

  9. This route involves skipping the Invincibility Star in Kero Sewers, which will cause Mario to be 1 level lower during some portions of the run. In order to make this route work, you must do a version of Knife Guy + Grate Guy manip that does not involve Mario's stats, which is either the 3RC or 4RC variant. From my timing, this route saves approximately 12 seconds in a best case scenario, and around 6.5 seconds in an average case scenario. Therefore, it is always worth going for if you feel comfortable with these iterations of the KG + GG manip.

  67. - Unless you got very good Honey Syrup freebie luck, it's recommended you grab an additional 10 Coin in the 3rd screen by jumping on the 1st platform twice (combine the jump to the coin with re-landing on the platform). This will make up the cost of purchasing the 6th Honey Syrup, and put you back on the normal coin route. This extra coin costs approximately 4 seconds to get.

  125. Notes about the EXP routing in this section:
  126.  
  127. - One extra Blue Bird fixes everything about the EXP route from this point onwards EXCEPT Mario being Level 15 for Czar Dragon, which optimally will not matter if you have two Ice Bombs to use during the fight.

In order for Mario to be 15 in the "Standard" variation, you need to defeat an extra enemy somehow in the Volcano - either by getting lucky with an Oerlikon drop from the Corkpedite, or by having very good movement and getting the Pyrosphere in the room where the star ends. Getting the Pyrosphere will cause the glitch where Mario is flying around the room in a damaged state, but you can still leave by getting close to the exit.
