  1. There, at the podium beneath the tree, stands the Duchess. Currently examining a stack of paperwork atop it, as is her wont. Her bright brass eyes flick upward. The rest of her head slowly tilts to follow.
  2.
  3. "Good evening. And welcome to Providence, both of you."
  4. (Dura Levante)
  5. [21:01:56]
  6. Locke strode up, the smallest of quakes of earth underneath him as he approached. Aptitude with Geomancy, getting stronger every day.
  7.
  8. Those tired eyes lock on the bright, brass-colored hues of the Duchess. Into the pocket, goes his hand. Out with the paperwork. Hopefully, it wouldn't simply add to the pile.
  9.
  10. "Reporting as ordered."
  11.
  12. A glance given back to Akina.
  13.
  14. "I'd tell you how much I'd have, but it wouldn't be enough."
  15. (Locke)
  16. [21:03:57]
  17. Akina had never seen a Nephilim before, but since coming to Sarea she has seen all sorts of species. Though, she seemed to be the only Racoon kin around. "Hi hi. Hi!" She announced once again as she did a twirl, spinning left to right, then jigging in one spot going full circle again.
  18.
  19. "Akina like wings! Wings wings!" She told Dura as they wiggled their tail left to right after her jig was over. Akina would face the Duchess and then smile, shortly after looking to Locke.
  20.
  21. "Akina need neglect potions and have no money but have gems." Akina nods, "Gems gems!"
  22. (Akina Magnolias)
  23. [21:04:15] Sudam Iensane says, "Hello, Miss Levante."
  24. [21:04:46] Locke says, "Looks like we can kill two birds with one stone. Think Sudam and Watt, have business similar to mine, Duchess."
  25. [21:06:07] Sudam Iensane says, "Thank you."
  26. [21:06:13] Glacius Rex says, "no problem"
  27. [21:06:29] Akina Magnolias says, "That looks painful. Painful painful."
  28. [21:08:00]
  29. The paperwork does literally add to the pile as she takes it from him, but she maintains the same flat, level gaze as she often has.
  30.
  31. "Good. Then we can begin-" Or they would have. She pauses to glance impassively at Akina. The leathery wings folded behind her twitch. "A side effect. Don't pay them much mind."
  32.
  33. Then past Akina, to the entering rabbitkin, with a dip of her head into a nod.
  34.
  35. "Initiate Sudam. Good to see you." And another in two. Her expression shifts just enough to allow the arch of a brow.
  36. (Dura Levante)
  37. [21:10:49]
  38. Locke shifts position to the side, after handing over his paperwork. Allowing an unobstructed view of those others present. A boot, casually cants up and thunks against the handle of his axe as the boy waits.
  39.
  40. "Much better than a courthouse, for this to go down in." A fogged breath escapes him, and he'd watch it rise and dissapate.
  41.
  42. "Even if cold."
  43.
  44. A small smile, given to his friends. He wondered, just what would entail with what was to follow. Would either side, learn more of the other? How detailed was the process?
  45.
  46. Time would tell.
  47. (Locke)
  48. [21:11:28]
  49. The Diamond encrusted into her forehead glimmers. Acting as a signal for the excitement she was feeling. She grins at Dura, Hearing that it was good to be seen made her quiet happy.
  50.
  51. "Miss Levante. I've brought to you today one of Saera's up-and-coming alchemists. He wishes to join The Hammer and serve it honorably."
  52.
  53. Sudam elbows Watt lightly. To make sure he was paying attention as she drags him closer to the Duchess.
  54.
  55. (Sudam Iensane)
  56. [21:11:43]
  57. With the mention of cold rex let out a small chuckle, he honestly thought it was a bit warm today
  58. (Glacius Rex)
  59. [21:17:29]
  60. Watt at that point in time seemed to be rubbing his eyes in order to soothe himself for what was ahead, the impact of the elbow seeming enough to bring forth a sharp intake of breath. He needed to focus here, more then usual- and so he would.
  61.
  62. Stepping forth with all the attentiveness and steadiness as a falling log, the atypical wimp with glasses would raise his hand in some form of wave.
  63.
  64. "Hey there. My name is Watt Cauz. It's good to meet you."
  65.
  66. Though, didn't seem to change after that. This was his first attempt at getting brought into a faction like this, of course he wouldn't really have an idea on how to step into this.
  67. (Watt Cauz)
  68. [21:20:38] Akina Magnolias says, "Akina just need sell rare gem. Gem gem."
  69. [21:22:26]
  70. "Ah." She pauses, catching sight of the gem embedded in Sudam's head. "Congratulations."
  71.
  72. And then the Duchess' invasive, non-plussed stare of brass swivels over to Watt Cauz next. There's silence. A few slow blinks.
  73.
  74. "Likewise. A pleasure." Dura slowly closes a folder around the stack of papers on the podium and pans around to the souls currently present in the square.
  75.
  76. "I can't say I have much need for gems. But those wishing to join Providence's military or citizenry, please follow me. Don't have to do this out in the damned cold."
  77.
  78. She takes stock of those that prepare to follow, then turns to make her way north. A spaded tail trails just behind her with a slow, counterbalancing sway.
  79. (Dura Levante)
  80. [21:24:04]
  81. Locke follows suit, with surprising ease. A foot behind the other of the leader, marches second nature to him at this point. He thought nothing of it
  82.
  83. If, a bit annoying to hear him walking along in sync.
  84. (Locke)
  85. [21:24:12]
  86. he knew they where not talking to him, but he was curious on what was gonna be said, he was intrested in providance due to its location.
  87. (Glacius Rex)
  88. [21:24:49]
  89. Watt nodded. He was kind of wondering why he could see his breath, brief consideration was there regarding whether or not he accidentally lit a fire in his gut given the types of things he consumes on a regular.
  90.
  91. He ended up stepping forward and following, but it looked like he was checking whether or not his breath smelled or not, very normal.
  92. (Watt Cauz)
  93. [21:28:46] Watt Cauz says, "...Why is your chair facing a bookshelf?"
  94. [21:30:41]
  95. It's not far. She leads the little troupe somewhere to the north, never once glancing back. Eyes forward. The Duchess follows the cliff face along the icy bay and ducks into an alcove - one that you might never know was there unless it was pointed out.
  96.
  97. A door opens and she beckons them in, leaving the could outside where it belongs.
  98.
  99. The interior of the stone room is comfortable. Cozy. Simple. A little office, a few shelves lining the walls with texts, adjoined to a small quartermaster's cache.
  100.
  101. Naturally, she gestures for them to take a seat, then takes her own beside the desk. Her fingers interlace with one another; mismatched, a set of natural green on one hand and the deep green-blue crystal of a prosthetic on the other.
  102.
  103. "Each of you is here, I assume, in hopes to be of service to Providence," she starts, once more opening the folder on the desk before her.
  104.
  105. "Let us start simply. I'd like to know the 'why'. However comfortable you are in discussing it."
  106. (Dura Levante)
  107. [21:32:42]
  108. Sudam stands next to Watt. She looks a bit overjoyed. She also gives a glance to Locke and Glacius.
  109.
  110. Clearly happy they were here and they were joining. Finally more fresh blood she could work with!
  111. (Sudam Iensane)
  112. [21:40:04]
  113. Seated, and with his back against the wall, Locke idly drags a digit along the carved stone that this alcove was hewn from. To feel the warmth seep back into his digits, was a relief.
  114.
  115. He always hated the cold.
  116.
  117. "Suppose it's easier to skip the fine print. I know what I did, better than any after all." He starts.
  118.
  119. "Conscripted into service, as an alternative method to punishment for crimes against the Isegradian empire. Given, the... circumstances I was in."
  120.
  121. "Locke. Previously of 'Aile De Feu', an Aquitanian mercenary group that capitalized on the turmoil alongside the borders." A small pause. Locke turns his gaze towards the Duchess.
  122.
  123. "At first, they had me run explosives, given my size when I was first indoctrinated. Then, into espionage... and what follows suit. Make them think, I was a wayward stray with all ripped away by nearby conflict."
  124.
  125. ...
  126.
  127. "Group was wiped out. Got caught. I... they." There's a purposeful venom along that specific word. "Lost their leverage. And so, I turned myself in, and explained."
  128.
  129. He draws the hands into his lap, one clenched in a fist, the other covering it.
  130.
  131. "So here I am."
  132. (Locke)
  133. [21:44:26]
  134. Watt's eyes shifted between Dura and Sudam for a moment. Now there was a natural question here. Is it a better or worse thing to say that the only reason that he wanted to join the military because a buddy was twisting his arm into it.
  135.
  136. Well, that'd hurt his pride for one, and for the limited amount of possessions he held in the world. He didn't want to risk losing more of himself here...
  137.
  138. He'd let out a breath and tap his fingers on the wooden desk in something of a rhythm. Several excuses came through his head- several none that really registered or stuck around all that much, except...
  139.
  140. "Money."
  141.
  142. He'd decide on, it's what she tried pulling him in with initially, though there was something else. He could expand on it a little more.
  143.
  144. "I need it for treatment, I need it for my projects, and I need a way to earn it, after I got my last home stolen out from under me I'm just here to try and make a better one for myself."
  145.
  146. He'd offer a calm smile, resting his arms atop each other onto the table like some bored kid listening to a lecture, though this was a play for comfort.
  147. (Watt Cauz)
  148. [21:44:37]
  149. the warmth of the room started to melt the ice that had collected on rex's hair, water slowly started to drip from his head
  150.
  151. he walked into the secret cave, wonder showing on his face, he has never seen anything so cool
  152.
  153. The reason for joining providence, was simply it was the best climate that suits his needs. Although it was also pretty close to deliverance, the thing he hated most was the undeath so he would have plenty of chances to fight them
  154.
  155. he waited until the other two spoke then he chimed in
  156.
  157. "I would like to join the providence's military, help protect it from outside threats no matter what they would be. Although I'm not the strongest right now, I believe providence can make me stronger. "
  158.
  159. his voice was calm and collected, as cool as ice. it was not overwhelmingly loud, but it was louder than most people's voices. confidence in every word. as he spoke the ice completely melted revealing his hair's true color.
  160.
  161.
  162. (Glacius Rex)
  163. [22:00:18]
  164. Each of them speak. Each of them, in turn, becomes the recipient of that same slightly-invasive stare. It's probably a little weird. It betrays little, but there is the gleam of intelligence. There is life and thought there. Specifics are hard to glean. The crackling fireplace behind her offers a warmth that she herself does not.
  165.
  166. "Honesty," she begins, looking especially to Watt and Locke. "Is something I hold in high esteem.
  167.
  168. No good and worthy foundation can be built on a lie." The fingers unlace. She starts to flip through some of the paperwork before her with a soft snort.
  169.
  170. "I am sure there are many things said about Providence. Its purpose and its administration. I will tell you what is at the beating heart of it." It's then she looks to Glacius.
  171.
  172. "Each of us is at our best or strongest through different means. It is a sacred act to pursue what makes us great; and provided all of you serves Providence? It is here to give you its wealth and to help you reach those heights."
  173.
  174. "Whether they be in combat. In research. Or otherwise."
  175.
  176. "If that is something the three of you can truly, wholly be invested in? Then I'd welcome you in with open arms."
  177.
  178. The Duchess, every image of a devilish gargoyle, reaches into her desk drawer. Contracts are presented - two military contracts for Glacius and Locke, and a research contract for Watt.
  179.
  180. Surely it is not at all ominous to be offered contracts and pens by a green devil woman backlit by flame. Right?
  181.
  182. "Sign if you wish. It will be my duty to care for each of you, to serve you as people of this city. Just as it will be your duty to serve the city in turn.
  183.
  184. If you have any questions about the terms of these agreements, or for me. You are welcome to ask."
  185.
  186. (Dura Levante)
  187. [22:06:17]
  188. A paper taken. He didn't think that he'd have to sign another one? But if he didn't?
  189.
  190. Bad news. There was only one way out of his situation, one way to see his home again.
  191.
  192. Forward.
  193.
  194.
  195. Pen comes to rest at the signature line, and his voice joins the scratch of the ink onto paper.
  196.
  197. "Standing orders for the Hammer's forces? Jurisdiction too, I suppose." Two key components of serving in a military unit. What to do, and where to do it.
  198.
  199. "Ranks would come in handy too. To know who's got more sway." A chain of command, established.
  200.
  201. Even though her visage was quite... iconic, he had met far more sinister people, with far plainer features. So the imagery did none to shake the boy. A finished document is slid across the desk towards her, and the pen comes to rest.
  202.
  203. "Six years. All I need to get through." He muses to himself.
  204.
  205. (Locke)
  206. [22:08:26]
  207. her words where profound, her stare a little creepy but something he can look past. he took in a deep breath as he looked over the contracts rubbing the pen against his head as he read.
  208.
  209. he looked up at the women thought going quickly through his head, but no doubt that he would pursue whatever made him great and serve providance. after all once he signed this contract it would be his new home
  210.
  211. he put his pen and sight on the paper as he quickly signed
  212.
  213. he set his pen down and sat in silence as he looked over to watt to see what he would do
  214. (Glacius Rex)
  215. [22:11:21]
  216. Watt stared at the contract.
  217.
  218. And stared.
  219.
  220. And stared..
  221.
  222. And stared...
  223.
  224. It could be said that an internal gunshot was ringing throughout his mind as his clouded eyes jump across the paper in a disparaging manner.
  225.
  226. Fck
  227.
  228. A murmer he mouthed out, his hand covering his mouth as he does so- if he were outside the sight could have been compared to a busted pipe letting out steam. He'd steel himself forward.
  229.
  230. His other hand grasping ahold of the pen, hovering over the dotted line quicker then most. He put down his signature right then and there.
  231.
  232. Watt D.(?)* Cauz
  233.
  234. Bright, bold, his hand writing looked as if it had came straight out of a printing press, there wasn't a style there, no swirls, no flourishes. It looked like plain bread. Much like Watt, actually.
  235. (Watt Cauz)
  236. [22:21:58]
  237. Has she blinked? She's watching them all very closely as their pens hover over their respective dotted lines...
  238.
  239. And yet as they speak, as they sign, there is a subtle-yet-visible relaxing of her posture. The stiffness of her shoulders eases and the Duchess slowly nods.
  240.
  241. The names were written. The pacts were sealed.
  242.
  243.
  244. Though her exterior remains just about as rigid as it has been, there is a subdued, spectral smile.
  245.
  246. "Excellent." She takes the contracts and returns them to her care with a ginger touch.
  247.
  248. "The Hammer is undergoing some...restructuring. Providence has uneasy 'peace' with Deliverance and no open hostilities currently. You both, Locke and Glacius, will be reporting to Sudam for the time being as your superior." A nod is paid the diamond-studded rabbitkin's way.
  249.
  250. "I will see what I can't do to get you all afforded housing. There is a tavern in town where you can stay for the time being, until the paperwork for that is sorted."
  251.
  252. "As for you, mister Watt...you will be reporting to Director Silversword as the Research Director. Are you familiar with her?"
  253. (Dura Levante)
  254. [22:23:03] Watt Cauz says, "Maybe? Suds dragged me here a couple of times before, so maybe..."
  255. [22:23:11] Watt Cauz says, "uh, maybe I did."
  256. [22:23:44] Dura Levante says, "..."
  257. [22:23:47] Dura Levante says, "...Suds..."
  258. [22:23:55]
  259. Dura says it slowly, as if she's tasting the name.
  260. (Dura Levante)
  261. [22:23:55] Chat command attempt: /emote Dura says it slowly, as if she's tasting the name.
  262. [22:25:45]
  263. he liked how she said peace, that means it wont last long, soon his time to eradicate the undeath will come, but for now he will get stronger and protect providance from any new threats that prop up.
  264.
  265. he looked over at sudam and gave her a nod. she will be his suppirior from now on
  266. (Glacius Rex)
  267. [22:27:39]
  268. Watt blinked. The full brunt of the conversation coming to the forefront of his mind.
  269.
  270. She's technically his superior officer now huh.
  271.
  272. "Sorry, I mean Sudam Ieu.. Ieho? Iehin...?"
  273.
  274. His face winced with every failed pronunciation, his tongue was being twisted into knots here.
  275.
  276. "Not very good with Rhinessian names. Sorry."
  277.
  278. Ultimately, he'd offer an apologetic smile towards the rabbit as he let a sigh escape him.
  279. (Watt Cauz)
  280. [22:28:34]
  281. Sudam looks at Dura. Her amethyst eyes showed an ounce of confusion for a moment. She had to make sure she heard that right. The Rabbit-Kin's ears perk up as if they were antennas.
  282.
  283. "You want them to report to me?"
  284.
  285. She questions. "Does this mean you want detailed reports on things they've done or accomplished or do I give that to somebody else?"
  286.
  287. "Oh along with communicating info down to them?"
  288.
  289. She looked kind of shocked. "I'll gladly take the responsibility however!" She looks over at Locke and Glacius with a wide smile.
  290.
  291. Before looking at Watt and Dura. Oh god they were using Watt's nickname for her.
  292.
  293. She looks at Watt. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN!? YOU'VE SAID MY NAME HUNDEREDS OF TIMES?!" She looked ready to maul him.
  294. (Sudam Iensane)
  295. [22:29:47]
  296. Sudame was in charge? Was kind of nice, in a way. Already knew her, already got along. Saw eye to eye, on plenty of things.
  297.
  298. Who knew what kind of fights they'd manage to get into, side by side? Something to look forward to.
  299.
  300. "Heard about the numbers issue. It'll resolve itself in time, I'm sure." A shrug given. Locke shifts to idly thumbing over an unseen shiv in his pocket. Ol' reliable. Each nick and scratch felt, a memory.
  301.
  302. Gaze breaks from the rigid, serious Duchess and the boy looks over towards the rabbitkin, whose diamond upon her forehead was likely shimmering, since it reacted to her emotions. Or, at least joy.
  303.
  304. "Hear that? You just got handed the reins." A small chuckle.
  305.
  306. "Got a place to sleep now though. That's nice, though I expected some sort of barracks in the castle, on the cliff. Or is it privately owned?" He'd question, thinking on it.
  307.
  308. Shifting his weight, there's a groan of wood underneath him, soft cracks of timbers accompanying the movement.
  309.
  310. He expected more questioning. But, in an Isle that was filled with walking, talking corpses, maneaters from other realms, and demons with bloodthirst insatiable..
  311.
  312. Was a boy with bloodstained hands all that much to worry about? Not yet.
  313. (Locke)
  314. [22:34:15]
  315. "Yeah, the Sudam part, but even that's hard sometimes. Why do you think I shortened it to soap suds? You think I have all of your weird primal throat noises engrained in my voice box? That things already ruined by the meds you know. It's why you don't hear me pronounce new words."
  316.
  317. Lord forbid he ever met somebody with a name that didn't sound like a commonly used word. Now that would be a terrible day.
  318. (Watt Cauz)
  319. [22:36:10]
  320. "So many here have had private homes, there hasn't been much need to use a barracks," the Duchess muses, scratching under her chin. "Might be time to shift some things around.
  321.
  322. The Keep is for public use, apart from the stocks of the quartermaster. You'll find a substantial library. Meeting halls. Crafting spaces, laboratories in the tunnels below. I don't keep my home here."
  323.
  324. As she organizes the papers and files them away meticulously, she speaks to Sudam.
  325.
  326. "I won't be offended if you balk at the responsibility. You're combat capable and have been putting in work recruiting. Many here know your face.
  327.
  328. That you take up leadership of a squadron is only sensible. Consider this a promotion, Sergeant Sudam."
  329.
  330. The paperwork is returned to a small locked drawer, and the pens likewise placed back into a tray. Everything in its own space.
  331.
  332. "I do, in time, wish to know each of you better. You are my people and, as I said, by serving you to be your best selves, I serve Providence. And in case I have not made it clear.
  333.
  334. I take my duties quite seriously."
  335. (Dura Levante)
  336. [22:36:43] Dura Levante says, "..."
  337. [22:36:45] Dura Levante says, "Suds...."
  338. [22:37:07]
  339. The Duchess speaks it again. Is that amusement? Confusion? Hard to tell.
  340. (Dura Levante)
  341. [22:42:24]
  342. The encrusted girl looks at Watt. His blatant racism reminds her he was originally from Arlandia. He would regret this one day. But for now for the sake of professionalism and perhaps because she had grown attached to him as a friend.
  343.
  344. She let's it slide.
  345.
  346. The Grey Diamond, Bestowed upon her by the spirt of strength shimmers perhaps offensively bright for a moment as Sudam takes a deep breath.
  347.
  348. "Very well. I will accept this duty with great honor. I will continue to serve the City-State of Providence with not just ferocity but faithfulness as well. Thank you, Duchess."
  349.
  350. She does a little Rhinessian salute in the direction of the dutchess.
  351.
  352. Before her facial expression morphs into a netural state. Looks like perhaps her nickname was going to stick and spread. Watt be damned.
  353.
  354. "Oh! By the way. I may be able to do Churgery soon Duchess. This means that if citizens or warriors of Providence find a rare gem. I could encrust their leylines as mine have been. Just food for thought. My trip back home was very eye-opening so to say."
  355. (Sudam Iensane)
  356. [22:45:41]
  357. "I suppose I understand, for the more industrious types." Locke digs into his bag, and slaps about fifty coins onto the table. They clatter loudly.
  358.
  359. "Doesn't work for the rest of us."
  360.
  361. Scrrrrape...
  362.
  363. And the jingle of pocket change being stuffed away.
  364.
  365. Precious gold, precious, precious gold. Locke stands up from his seat, rolling his shoulders. A small pop, sounding from his back as he does so. A stretch to one side, then the other.
  366.
  367. Dura planned to get to know her citizens better, in time? Would be difficult, given how busy she seemed to be. Well, one tidbit could stop some friction between the ranks, at least.
  368.
  369. "Just don't speak Aquitanian around me, and we'll be just fine." Locke states, in a deadpan, dry tone. Simple, to the point.
  370.
  371. Churgery? Not something he knew about. Did the gem have to go on the forehead? An interesting thought.
  372. (Locke)
  373. [22:47:19]
  374. he stayed silent listening to evreyone lse, he didint want to draw attention to himself so he just thought over evrey word that was said
  375. (Glacius Rex)
  376. [22:50:49]
  377. Drink scooped up.
  378. (Locke)
  379. [22:53:13] Glacius Rex says, "(i can make more if you need"
  380. [22:54:09]
  381. "Credit where it's due. Merit gets rewarded over blood."
  382.
  383. There is an expression that flashes far more clearly across the Duchess' expression. Interest and scholarly intrigue.
  384.
  385. "I do want to hear about that. I think between some of our brightest minds here, we can maybe drum up something..." The fingers of her prosthetic finger flex, then drum against the desk.
  386.
  387. "Fascinating. I'm pleased your trip was fruitful. Likewise, similar to you, if there is anything Providence can provide to your betterment. I am sure you know by now you only have to ask."
  388.
  389. She watches, thoughtfully, as Locke places the meager stack of gold and retracts it back to his pocket.
  390.
  391. "You're in luck. I'm not from the mainland Empire. Wouldn't know how to if I tried."
  392.
  393. "All of you will also need new equipment, by the looks of it."
  394. (Dura Levante)
  395. [22:55:03] Sudam Iensane says, "Can't say I know what Aquitanian is so do not fret Locke."
  396. [22:55:58] Locke says, "Native tongue of mine."
  397. [22:56:52]
  398. his face lit up at the mention of new equipment, he had two broken down pistols he has to constantly fix after evrey fight. His father made them for him before he headed to this island.
  399.
  400. "New equipment would be nice, though I doubt im strong enough to use most of the gear you have
  401. (Glacius Rex)
  402. [22:57:16]
  403. Sudam smiles.
  404.
  405. "When you have time let me know, I can explain it in great detail. If I do need anything I will also make sure to speak up."
  406.
  407. She looks at Locke and Glacius.
  408.
  409. "I hope you guys like powerful weapons and shiny gems. Speaking of needing to be equipped I can make such and gem-set them the Rhinessian way!"
  410.
  411. She halts. "Also! Isn't this funny Locke? I made you your Axe! I bet you would have never guessed I was part of this place huh?"
  412. (Sudam Iensane)
  413. [22:59:38]
  414. he looks at sudam "Yes, powerful weapons are perfect, they can turn the tide of battle if your skiled enough to use them. Though a weapon alone is not enough to destroy deli- Providences enemys. It also takes skill and practice"
  415. (Glacius Rex)
  416. [23:00:11] Sudam Iensane says, "True!"
  417. [23:00:16]
  418. A glance backwards to his axe. Hewn from cobalt, and with the initials of who made it.
  419.
  420. Against the powerhouses that lay in wait upon the Isle of Sarea, new equipment would inevitably be useful.
  421.
  422. "Just need some armor, and rings. Wolfram plates, lighter fit. Should hold up okay for a while." A little glance over his figure. Already eying where he was going to need to refit the straps, as his body continued along the path of development. Hopefully, he was ready for the really heavy-duty stuff before he had the build of a man proper.
  423.
  424. A small smile given to Sudam as she points out that she fashioned his axe. "Sure did. I even put it to the test yesterday. Got into a few fights." A nod. Such was the way.
  425. (Locke)
  426. [23:00:23]
  427. In a swift motion, Watt placed his weapon of choice on the table. It was a delicately made rifle, and it was certainly nothing to laugh at in terms of power. The Faerla himself beamed proudly at the weapon. tapping it with his hand hard enough to map a meaty slap noise- but nothing overly forceful as to damage the gun.
  428.
  429. "This was made by hand in Boundary by the legion boys. I can't thank Rynn enough for the work he did on the Rifter here. My custom made gun safety manual-"
  430.
  431. Which Watt would immediately put on the table beside his weapon.
  432.
  433. "Won em over to the extent that they made this thing for free for me. Though I missed some bits in it about cleaning."
  434.
  435. He would not pick the manual up.
  436.
  437. "Armor's not as nice as this though, but I doubt you give that sorta stuff out to new recruits."
  438. (Watt Cauz)
  439. [23:01:12] Sudam Iensane says, "I'm glad you've put it too work already Locke!"
  440. [23:01:43] Locke says, "I'm getting used to swinging it around. 'S nice."
  441. [23:03:56] Locke says, "Not too bad."
  442. [23:04:10] Glacius Rex says, "good rules"
  443. [23:04:28] Glacius Rex says, "i follow those almsot to the letter, though you can always shoot blindly if you cant see or hear your target"
  444. [23:04:36] Watt Cauz says, "I know right? Apparently though I missed this whole tidbit on cleaning and how you need to look down the barrel when you're doing it to make sure it's all clean in there."
  445. [23:05:02]
  446. Locke suddenly gets a chill.
  447.
  448. Careful staring down barrels, kids.
  449. (Locke)
  450. [23:05:33] Glacius Rex says, "Yah, I personally just shove my finger down the barrle, but you have to keep your other hand on the trigger just incase someone trys to suprise you"
  451. [23:06:10] Watt Cauz says, "Yeah, that's why you keep the safety on while doing it."
  452. [23:06:14] Sudam Iensane says, "Good tips."
  453. [23:07:08] Locke says, "Always clear the weapon first. Seen too many adults mess around with ones in the dirt and have a bad time."
  454. [23:07:28]
  455. "I'll be sure to. Soon, hopefully. I've got my work cut out for me. But new blood makes some things easier."
  456.
  457. Dura is already scrutinizing poor Locke's armor. Glacius' equipment too. They would need to be braced for the unique dangers Sarea posed. The contract was signed. These were her terms of the bargain.
  458.
  459. "Wolfram we can do. Rings, most likely. Between Sudam and myself, I am sure we have what you need for lapidary work."
  460.
  461. There's a moment's silence and pause from the Duchess when the gun is presented. A small wave of nostalgia passes over her.
  462.
  463. "...She." A swift correction.
  464.
  465. "Rynn is a woman. Not that she's ever bothered to correct anyone. I recognize her handiwork. It remains some of the best on Sarea I've seen in a firearm." Her ears twitch and she blinks a few times, stowing away a memory.
  466.
  467. "Armor we can fix, of course, when you prove your salt. The resources themselves will not be an issue."
  468. (Dura Levante)
  469. [23:08:25]
  470. Sudam's jaw DROPS.
  471.
  472.
  473. "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat."
  474.
  475.
  476.
  477.
  478.
  479. (Sudam Iensane)
  480. [23:08:29] Dura Levante says, "..."
  481. [23:08:32] Dura Levante says, "You weren't aware?"
  482. [23:08:34] Locke says, "He doesn't know."
  483. [23:08:49] Dura Levante says, "Honestly. I was a little surprised when I found out."
  484. [23:08:53] Sudam Iensane says, "I- I wasn't. I assumed they were some stoic man who tried to murder undead."
  485. [23:08:58] Dura Levante says, "They didn't go by 'Rynn' in those days."
  486. [23:09:03] Dura Levante says, "...That was..."
  487. [23:09:07] Sudam Iensane says, "I mean- I've never really talked to them. But Meteor has fought against them."
  488. [23:09:16]
  489. Dura mutters, furrowing her brow. "Fuck. How many years?"
  490. (Dura Levante)
  491. [23:09:16] Chat command attempt: /emote Dura mutters, furrowing her brow. ;;;"Fuck. How many years?";;;
  492. [23:09:18] Locke says, "Her armor and voice gave it away for me."
  493. [23:10:25]
  494. it started to get to warm in this room for him, he took a step back and raised his hand to his head, a blast of frost shot out of his hand hitting his head, his air going icy white as he walked back to the seat
  495. (Glacius Rex)
  496. [23:10:28]
  497. Watt blinked, he'd then demonstrate his glasses- in which he'd take them off, and put them on.
  498.
  499. "I can barely see with these on, you know? And hearing..."
  500.
  501. He'd look over towards Sudam. His good friend and pal. The explosive mage.
  502.
  503. "...Well it never came up for me. I didn't really call him mister or nothing, still. I'm glad you recognize their work. It's really one of a kind."
  504. (Watt Cauz)
  505. [23:10:35] Watt Cauz says, "HER"
  506. [23:10:53] Dura Levante says, "You'd be hard-pressed to offend her. Really."
  507. [23:11:10] Sudam Iensane says, "Oh go- By the Sultan it's COLD."
  508. [23:11:12] Watt Cauz says, "When she is, she shakes it off easily when I see."
  509. [23:11:25] Glacius Rex says, "sorry, it was to warm in here"
  510. [23:11:31] Sudam Iensane says, "I- I understand."
  511. [23:11:35] Dura Levante says, "I'm sure it goes without saying - but do not give her any grief."
  512. [23:11:45] Dura Levante says, "- And please, try not to make it too cold in here. Not a fan."
  513. [23:11:47] Sudam Iensane says, "Watt, What can you see."
  514. [23:11:50] Dura Levante says, "Yes. I'm aware of the irony."
  515. [23:12:51] Watt Cauz says, "White. Not the color green. Or red. Or yellow."
  516. [23:13:07] Glacius Rex says, "you should be able to see me well then"
  517. [23:13:08] Dura Levante says, "...Do those glasses not work?"
  518. [23:13:08] Sudam Iensane says, "What color is my hair?"
  519. [23:13:27] Watt Cauz says, "They'd have a certain tint if they were for colorblindness."
  520. [23:13:33] Watt Cauz says, "Besides those are expensive."
  521. [23:13:37] Dura Levante says, "No, I meant more in general."
  522. [23:13:45] Dura Levante says, "Less so colors - definition? Depth of field?"
  523. [23:13:49] Sudam Iensane says, "Oh snap! I almost forget. Miss Levante. Me and Watt are going into the Wyld today. I'll make sure to bring back some interesting news."
  524. [23:14:33] Watt Cauz says, "Oh. I think at one point I was nearsighted but things got worse with time. Stopped being an eye thing and more..."
  525. [23:14:47] Watt Cauz says, "-Oh sh*t the Wyld."
  526. [23:14:56] Dura Levante says, "Ahh...Extraplanar travel."
  527. [23:15:00] Dura Levante says, "It's always so bracing."
  528. [23:15:00]
  529. A tug at the collar of his shirt, reveals a portion of an armored plate fitted to his body. Riding just along the collarbone, and combined with the bulk of the jacket over top, it was hard to tell Locke was wearing any armor at all.
  530.
  531. Specifically cut to hide it's presence, and painted dark to not catch the light. No crossover to make extra noise. Sure, it'd stand up to conventional attacks and ammunition well, but he knew after a few bouts that he'd need the sturdier stuff after all.
  532.
  533. At least that'd happen, soon enough.
  534.
  535. In fact, there were a lot of things hidden on Locke's person. A brief glimpse of a dark, cherry-wood grip on some sort of firearm, tucked into the youth's waistband.
  536.
  537. Funny little guy.
  538.
  539. It got cold, so Locke fixes his clothing, a small frown on his face.
  540.
  541. "You're going into the Wyld? Huh.. didn't know people just.. went there. Tell me how it looks when you get back."
  542. (Locke)
  543. [23:15:21] Sudam Iensane says, "Yeah, I'll make sure to let you know Locke."
  544. [23:15:26] Sudam Iensane says, "And it's kind of hard to get there."
  545. [23:15:40] Watt Cauz says, "We should talk regarding that. Specifically about supplies and stuff.."
  546. [23:15:43] Locke says, "So how are you getting there?"
  547. [23:15:47] Sudam Iensane says, "A tree. "
  548. [23:15:52] Sudam Iensane says, "I don't like it one bit but."
  549. [23:15:54] Locke says, "You're going to climb it?"
  550. [23:16:05] Sudam Iensane says, "It's for the sake of- No we get put into a cocoon like a butterfly."
  551. [23:16:05] Dura Levante says, "Well. If there are supplies you need. We do have some stocks."
  552. [23:16:05] Glacius Rex says, "May i join you? i like adventureing every now and then. might be able to help a bit"
  553. [23:16:23] Watt Cauz says, "...I mean Portalmancy is based out of weaving from what I remember."
  554. [23:16:33] Dura Levante says, "Generally speaking."
  555. [23:16:33] Locke says, "Eugh. Bugs."
  556. [23:16:36] Dura Levante says, "Not always."
  557. [23:16:36] Sudam Iensane says, "I would let you come Glacius. But it is far too dangerous and I'm not the one who is leading the journey."
  558. [23:16:43] Sudam Iensane says, "Last time. I got killed."
  559. [23:16:46] Sudam Iensane says, "Brought back."
  560. [23:16:56] Sudam Iensane says, "Against my will and had truth stain my existence."
  561. [23:17:00] Watt Cauz says, "You're messing up on your therapy Sudam."
  562. [23:17:00] Glacius Rex says, "i understand, proabbly best for me to stay here"
  563. [23:17:06] Locke says, "Normally people pack the really fancy gear before they go on ventures."
  564. [23:17:08] Watt Cauz says, "Remember, it didn't happen."
  565. [23:17:13] Sudam Iensane says, "Oh your right. What Permission said."
  566. [23:17:15] Sudam Iensane says, "It didn't happen.I"
  567. [23:17:18] Sudam Iensane says, "t didn't happen."
  568. [23:17:27] Sudam Iensane says, "Anyways, I think these three need some armor."
  569. [23:17:43]
  570. the mention of her being dead but coming back shok him, she was like the undeath, he took a breath in and quickly pushed the thought out of his head
  571. (Glacius Rex)
  572. [23:18:21] Watt Cauz says, "Already got Wolfram, there's not really much better then it in my paygrade..."
  573. [23:18:38] Sudam Iensane says, "Oh. Then those two need some!"
  574. [23:18:56] Watt Cauz says, "Wait."
  575. [23:18:59] Glacius Rex says, "wolframe is far to heavy for me"
  576. [23:18:59]
  577. "...Right. I'm sure you don't need to hear me reminiscing." She snorts through her tusks and rises from her chair, hands braced against the desk.
  578.
  579. "Glacius. Once you think you are strong enough to handle a new weapon, we can get you what you need."
  580.
  581. "Sergeant Sudam. I'd enjoy a report when you're back about the Faewyld."
  582.
  583. "Mister Watt...perhaps we can discuss your eyesight problem. I prefer my people at their best." A strange weight to those words.
  584.
  585. "And mister Locke - "
  586.
  587. Nope. The conversation stops right there like a record scratch. Dura grows stiff.
  588.
  589. "...I'm sorry. Did you say you died and came back?"
  590. (Dura Levante)
  591. [23:19:48] Glacius Rex says, "its best i leave before this conversation goes any farther"
  592. [23:19:53] Glacius Rex says, "i dont want a reason to start a fight"
  593. [23:20:15] Dura Levante says, "...You are dismissed if you wish, Initiate Glacius."
  594. [23:20:21] Glacius Rex says, "Thank you"
  595. [23:20:24]
  596. Sudam takes a deep breath.
  597.
  598. "It was horrible. The truth mage manipulated reality and put me in a loop of exploding into hundreds of bits before putting me back together in the manner of a second."
  599.
  600. "I'm not sure if it was real or not. Permission told me it didn't happen as Truth magic has odd properties."
  601. (Sudam Iensane)
  602. [23:20:35] Dura Levante says, "..."
  603. [23:20:37]
  604. There might've been a precursory reach for the handle of Locke's gun. It didn't happen.
  605.
  606. With the green devil in the room, he didn't think it was necessary. That, and Sudam wasn't cold like the other walking corpses. So, he thought there was a story.
  607. (Locke)
  608. [23:20:39] Dura Levante says, "Did Persimmon do that to you?"
  609. [23:20:43] Dura Levante says, "Or was this someone else?"
  610. [23:20:49] Sudam Iensane says, "No. It was in the wild."
  611. [23:20:51] Watt Cauz says, "Hog rider."
  612. [23:20:56] Sudam Iensane says, "Yeah. "
  613. [23:21:02] Sudam Iensane says, "The mage rode a giant fae boar."
  614. [23:21:25]
  615. A few beats pass. They are tense. Then she relaxes, exhales, and nods.
  616.
  617. "Right. I see."
  618. (Dura Levante)
  619. [23:21:42] Sudam Iensane says, "Trust me. If I was undead. I would kill myself."
  620. [23:22:00] Dura Levante says, "...There are things, though they are few."
  621. [23:22:08] Dura Levante says, "That can displace the soul like that without undeath."
  622. [23:22:10] Dura Levante says, "It's complicated."
  623. [23:22:12] Sudam Iensane says, "All I know is- I was manipulated with wretched wild magic. "
  624. [23:22:17] Sudam Iensane says, "It was- God awful."
  625. [23:22:26] Dura Levante says, "No. No, I imagine not."
  626. [23:22:33] Dura Levante says, "You seem to have handled it well. Given the circumstances."
  627. [23:22:41] Sudam Iensane says, "Anyways! I'll make sure to have that report. "
  628. [23:22:47] Sudam Iensane says, "Sorry if I scared Glacius."
  629. [23:22:51] Sudam Iensane says, "Tell him I'm fine."
  630. [23:22:52] Dura Levante says, "My thanks, Sergeant. "
  631. [23:23:08] Locke says, "Mmh. Growing less fond of the other planes with each passing day."
  632. [23:23:21] Dura Levante says, "They are, more often than not, trouble."
  633. [23:23:29] Dura Levante says, "But in certain ways, they are valuable tools."
  634. [23:23:35] Sudam Iensane says, "I agree!"
  635. [23:23:35] Dura Levante says, "Paedion, for example."
  636. [23:23:44] Sudam Iensane says, "Oh. Paedion... "
  637. [23:23:55] Dura Levante says, "And the creation of Mithril - really. I could go on all day if you let me."
  638. [23:24:04]
  639. Sudam's ear twitches.
  640.
  641. "Can't that be smelted with only one thing?"
  642. (Sudam Iensane)
  643. [23:24:11] Locke says, "Dangerous places, with big rewards."
  644. [23:24:40] Dura Levante says, "With only one thing? No, no...Mithril is a combination."
  645. [23:25:06] Dura Levante says, "Do you know the art?"
  646. [23:25:20]
  647. Watt tapped his armor. Was..
  648.
  649. Was it Wolfram even? He got this from Sudam herself, but she was bragging about getting new duds. And given she was the same rank as him until like.. two minutes ago...
  650.
  651. It wasn't until Dura had spoke towards him that the Faerla got knocked out of his stupor. About his sight.
  652.
  653. "Don't put it too high on your list of priorities, Miss Dura. This is a problem I'm hellbent on fixing on my own terms. And I'm well into making progress. My apprentice is making sure of that."
  654.
  655. Watt shifted his eyes towards Sudam.
  656.
  657. "When are we heading over again? I need to figure out who I'm giving this stuff to."
  658. (Watt Cauz)
  659. [23:25:37] Locke says, "( Suds' Duds new drip line"
  660. [23:25:55] Sudam Iensane says, "Well. Yes and no? I've never exactly heard of Mithril in detial."
  661. [23:25:57] Sudam Iensane says, "detail*)"
  662. [23:25:59] Watt Cauz says, "(CASH MONEY CASH MONEY CASH MONEY)"
  663. [23:26:08] Locke says, "(In Sarea, it's either drip or drown"
  664. [23:26:16] Sudam Iensane says, "But I'm willing to learn about it. Because I'm obessive enough to try and help us get some."
  665. [23:27:34]
