  1. Moonshine is an illegally produced alcoholic beverage. There are many different names used for moonshine such as: mountain dew, white lightning and hooch. Moonshine was just whiskey made illegally and traded at night. Early moonshiners were farmers who made money by turning their corn into whiskey. They did it because taxes where placed upon alcohol to make some money for the government. It wasn’t until Prohibition that it began to pick up. People really loved their alcohol so they began to make it in their homes. Most of them got caught, but not all of them. Moonshiners began fighting against the government about it. Even though Prohibition ended with the 21st amendment, moonshining continued because it was untaxed and cheap. It has played a large role in American history.
