  9. » nicknames for slot/who calls them that: soo, a short (and somehow memorable) nickname given to her by a childhood friend in first grade; now, it’s just a term of endearment between her close friends. iseul hasn’t actually talked to him since, but the nickname sticks with her.

  30. » personality: when iseul was nine years old, a classmate of hers decided to inform her that she was cold-hearted and boring. iseul responded with a shrug and middle finger.
  31. not necessarily abrasive and not necessarily emotionless, iseul lies on the fine line between. her demeanor can sometimes be mistaken for a feisty, angered aura—but honestly, it’s just her strict compliance to the no-fucks-given rule she established for herself at a young age. whatever scarce words she speaks are laced with a combination of indifference and venom (and more often than not, it’s a brusque jab at some campus dickhead, but he totally deserved it). she walks with an air of confidence, apathy in her unreadable expression and entitlement in her heeled boots. it always looks like she’s on edge—almost anticipating, with a drumming leg and chewed lip—, and because of this, people have come to assume things about her: “she’s a delinquent.” “she’s a criminal, a thief, i mean—how else does she have all that money?” “she doesn’t have feelings. that’s just how some people work, i guess.”
  32. what they don’t know is that’s her shell.
  33. her shell, meaning the concrete wall she’s built around herself and emotions, including even personal information. secretly, she’s expressive; behind closed walls she can be furious over some conflict on campus, or upset over familial problems, or happy enough to sing with her blasting earbuds. but ever since her family’s emotional distancing in her early teenage years, iseul has learned to close herself off from others; it makes it easier. it makes you strong. it makes you prosper. the shell got her out of a tough situation, and because of that, she feels the need to keep it around herself.
  34.
  35. » family: mun taewon, father: 3, age 46 | mun jangmi, mother: 4, age 44
  36. » background: born into a middle class family, iseul was trained to be one thing: successful. sure, her parents love her—she likes to believe it isn’t conditional, but willful ignorance only lasts so long—, but the prospect of their daughter becoming some rich tycoon in the interior of seoul made iseul’s parent’s hearts flutter just a bit faster. got an a on that algebra quiz? great, now study your accounting worksheets. what do you mean, you don’t want to be a businesswoman? don’t you want to make your parents proud? emotional blackmail, however mild, was the norm in the mun household.
  37. iseul still adored her parents. until she turned thirteen, that is.
  38. in the law firm where taewon worked—a high-end company originally situated in america—firings were taking place. and taewon just happened to be one of those excused workers. iseul’s father was furious, refusing to look for other work and muttering the same, unproven words: “they only fired me because i’m korean, right? those bastards in the states don’t like that the firm in south korea is working better than them. racist assholes. i’ll make them pay.” they were all baseless words, of course, exchanged between taewon and countless others infuriated, upset workers. all until jangmi made one comment: “file a lawsuit. sue the company.”
  39. in prospect it shouldn’t have worked; the evidence was opinionated, with barely substantial explanations. it was a ragtag group of average korean workers against one of the biggest law firms on the globe. yet somehow...it did. with the angry, influential media to back them, taewon and his fellow workers battled against that completely shocked law firm. the company filed bankruptcy, extinguished of money from the lawsuit and sporting a horrible reputation from the media. and taewon? the mun family, as well as the other workers’, acquired billions of won. iseul moved from an apartment to a mansion in the span of a week. her dirty sneakers turned into prada heels from the snap of her mother’s fingers.
  40. with stacks of cash behind them, iseul’s parents had no need to pester their daughter into the business field now. conversations between them lowered in number, and lowered, and lowered—until one day, iseul was muttering maybe one or two sentences to her parents a day. taewon’s greed sickened her. jangmi’s complete willingness sickened her. iseul’s shell had been crafted; now the indifference of her parents, the judgemental stares of her classmates don’t affect her anymore.
  41.
  42. » current status: second year at yonsei university, off campus living. limited number of friends (she isn’t exactly approachable, according to other students), and spends most of her time finding ways to use her parent’s completely undeserved money (which usually equates to shopping). mental health is stable, but could definitely be better. her apathetic demeanor rises a few concerns for her professors, but none big enough to remember after a few days.

  45. » interests/hobbies:
  46. > jogging (gets iseul’s mind off of things for just a bit)
  47. > origami
  48. > shopping: originally, she hated it, but now it’s almost like a way to get jab at her parents
  49. > cooking, particularly stir fry
  50. > singing (she isn’t very good at it, but it’s pretty fun)
  51. > sightseeing the city aimlessly; it helps her relax after a particularly stressful day
  52. » dislikes/fears:
  53. > late, late night (being alone at this time? one of the few times iseul will panic)
  54. > ungratefulness
  55. > being forced to work with/get accustomed to people; group projects are always hell (good luck trying to make her cooperate in this fic)
  56. > sounds from places she can’t pinpoint (drop a book from the other room and she’s going to jump out of her skin)
  57. > heavily emotional/dramatic people (QUEENIE and BABYBOY could get on her rough side)
  58. » skills/attributes:
  59. > staying rational/calm in situations
  60. > problem solving, being able to find solutions
  61. > running long distances
  62. > knows how to pick a lock (middle school was a tough place)
  63. > playing her words wisely
  64. > resourcefulness: quick-thinking
  65.
  66. » trivia/other facts:
  67. > although usually quiet, when iseul does speak, her words are uncontrollable—no matter how snarky.
  68. > absolutely sucks at consoling people. if someone bursts into tears next to her, handing them a crumpled tissue from her pocket is about as considerate as she gets.
  69. > hates cats. hates. them.
  70. > Resting Bitch Face™
  71. > she hates to admit it, but maybe it would be nice to cuddle with someone once in a while.
  72. > judges people by their hair first. by her logic, if you aren’t good enough to groom yourself, you aren’t worth her respect.
  73. > the queen of comical expressions
  74. > adding to that, iseul does have a humorous side. only a few close friends have ever seen it, but when it comes out, she’s sure to add to the life of a situation.
  75. > brings a pocket-sized bottle of hand sanitizer everywhere

  81. » mental diseases/disorders/illnesses: none
  82. » physical disorders: anemia. although not incredibly severe, if iseul doesn’t take her daily iron medication, she’s bound to grow dizzy, woozy, or weak for a period of time (play this to your advantage, bluey, make my gal suffer)

  90. [ Q & A ]
  91. » can they lift heavy objects?
  92. in most situations, yes. iseul’s strength does outbeat most others her size, but she isn’t a female hercules.
  93. » can they run fast?
  94. yes, her morning jogs have become practically ritual.
  95. » can they handle pain?
  96. most types, yes, so long as she isn’t continuously looking at her wound. open gashes make her slightly queasy.
  97. » can they see blood?
  98. yes, in moderation.
  99. » what are their beliefs?
  100. > learn to fend for yourself before you ask the help of others
  101. > “pride is different than dignity. dignity is being able to step outside without your past mistakes looming above you”
  102. > honesty is one of her biggest morals
  103. > values respect over compassion
  104. » what’s their motivation?
  105. although (slightly) petty, to prove to her parents that you can be successful without being morally deplorable. iseul strives to be who she aspires to be without causing the downfall of others, like her parents have. her motivation to survive, however, is just a bit different: to make sure she leaves a lasting, good impression on the world.
  106. » what’s their breaking point?
  107. seeing someone in great pain/death. even though her shell’s held strong, she’s only human. something as drastic and lasting as that is sure to jerk her emotions out.
  108. » what do they want most?
  109. to be successful: to be remembered, not because of her family: to be a morally good person.
  110.
  111. [ C H A R A C T E R C E N T R I C ]
  112. » why doesn’t ROLEX care about anything?
  113. it’s easier that way. at least, that’s the mentality iseul’s shell has instilled into her brain. not carrying the “burdens” of emotions, conflicts, and outside feelings helps her reach her goals faster, with less turmoil along the way. ignoring that high school bully didn’t do anything but make him leave. thin ties with childhood friends made it easier to leave them when they parted ways for college. it’s just her and her personal thoughts; and iseul wants to keep it that way.
  114.

  118.
  119. » sexuality: heterosexual, but damn, she’s questioning
  120. » love interest: MARS
  121. » how they act/feel toward each other: the beginning feels like every other crush iseul has had; MARS is attractive, no doubt, and if it weren’t for their situation iseul wouldn’t be reluctant to make a move. but that’s the problem—they’re trying to survive, not live in a perfect romance movie. so iseul bottles her feelings. she discreetly checks him out at points (damn, they guy’s got good calves) and occasionally exchanges a few words with him, but her teensy little crush is kept under the radar. even when him and SUGARCOAT become a thing.
  122. okay, so maybe it’s a bit uncomfortable to be around; the eight of them are living together, after all. after a while, when iseul is gradually warming up to the others, it’s a bit terrifying (but unsurprising) to realize her crush for MARS...is just growing. iseul’s afraid she’s going to mess up something in SUGARCOAT and MARS’s relationship, so she tries to keep her distance: both physically and emotionally. usually, she isn’t the type to get flustered; but if he brushes her arm the slightest, or maybe cracks a joke with her, she’s going to awkwardly smile and swallow down her blush.
  123. now iseul is comfortable with the group, but now she’s questioning if she’s in /love/ with goddamn MARS. it’s a gut-wrenching prospect that leaves her breathless and anxious. MARS is fun to be around, safe to be around; he doesn’t call her out for her “apathetic” demeanor. but with SUGARCOAT and his recent relationship catastrophe, iseul isn’t sure if she should pursue it. god, she’s a mess right now.
  124. (if it works out, get these kids together blu, make some #happiness)
  125. » scene suggestions with love interest:
  126. > “you,” iseul tries to retain her monotone voice, but fails, “you don’t think i’m emotionless? why? don’t i act like it?” MARS is next to her—a comfortable distance away, considering he’s kind of a thing with SUGARCOAT at the moment—, looking at her with curious eyes. “mm, nope. i think there’s more to you. you aren’t as robotic as you think.”
  127. > it’s a dangerous, cold night and MARS and iseul are out late, hunting for resources. after she suggests a spur-of-the-moment plan that sounds actually quite clever, MARS nods and says, “woah, iseul, you’re a genius, y’know that?” iseul bursts into a fit of coughs.
  128. > “i’m—i’m not crying.” iseul is in her closed room, quickly wiping at her eyes and trying to disguise the pain in her voice (god, she just wants to go home). MARS stands outside her door and quietly responds, “even the strongest of us are allowed to crack, iseul.”
  129. > iseul is tired, curled onto the old, ratty sofa with half-closed eyes and warbled words. when MARS says her name—”yeah, iseul, we’re gonna get out of this city, all of us”—, iseul smiles, nods, and quietly says, “soo. call me...soo.”
  130.
  131. » character they are closest to: LAMBO. with his chill, calm aura and iseul’s apathetic demeanor, the two aren’t exactly best friends, but they certainly get along. he’s someone iseul can count on speaking maybe a few sentences to each other and sitting the rest of the time in silence, happy with the company. if iseul has a problem that really is just too difficult to deal with on her own, she’ll go straight to him, even if it means creating a little dent in her emotional shell. on rare occasions, if iseul is feeling particularly talkative, she may even start up a personal conversation with him. whatever the situation, LAMBO is certainly someone iseul knows she can depend on.
  132. » character they are the least closest to: QUEENIE. she’s too bossy and rude, iseul’s too unresponsive and indifferent. with QUEENIE’s loud and obnoxious demeanor, iseul feels like she never gets time to herself when she’s around. QUEENIE loves to pester iseul for her input —”what about you, princess? surely you have at least a few words to say?” —and iseul loves to jab back—”you’ve said enough for all eight of us, sweetie.”—, resulting in a bit of problematic bad blood. just as QUEENIE is at fault for her insensitive prodding, iseul is equally wrong; she hasn’t taken the time to truly understand their makeshift leader yet.
  133. » scene suggestions with group:
  134. > “why the fuck aren’t you freaking out?” QUEENIE is fuming after iseul doesn’t say a word the first day they arrive together in the abandoned city. iseul turns to her, shrugs, and says, “you lose energy quicker if you hyperventilate. and i only have so many iron pills, y’know.”
  135. > it’s a murky day and SUGARCOAT has basically invited himself to sit next to her, a compassionate smile on his face. “man, i wonder why you don’t smile? maybe you just need to find your special someone. i know for a fact that MARS makes me grin every day, no doubt.” iseul can only bite into her disgusting, makeshift sandwich and nod softly because damn, he doesn’t know the half of it.
  136. > “just shut the fuck up for one second,” iseul is on the verge of tears (though she’s certainly not going to show it) after the group has been arguing and yelling at each other for over an hour. surviving together certainly won’t be easy. “and let’s just be friends, please.”
  137. > “remember when you asked me why i don’t care about things?” iseul, for once, has started the conversation with LAMBO. her hands are fidgeting: her voice is cracking: her shell is /breaking/. “so here’s the thing, um. when i was thirteen…”
  138. > something’s gone wrong and a group member is hurt badly. iseul can’t take it: can’t take the way MANNER is softly encouraging them with a choked up voice and shaking hands, or the way the others are desperately trying to fix the problem. iseul’s cheeks are growing wet. for once, she can’t figure out a solution.
