In short: to heck with the limited range of spells I could have bought in Populous, there are better things I can do. Sure, the tribes' shamans think I'm an affront to everything they represent, but I have more power in my pinky than they could hope to bring down on me.

Being the spark to ignite the flames of civilization in these simple people was rather satisfying, even if I don't think they'll get behind being primitive for a long time.
