  14. Eevee's scream trailed off into nothing as he fell further and further down towards the land. It looked to be nice, at least. Green, pristine, and clean. Full of life. He wondered what kind of Pokemon he would meet here, what kind of places he would see, and what he would get to eat. He wondered if maybe someone here could help him find his way home to Vulpix. As he approached the ground, however, he noticed a rippling monochrome pond beneath him. Assuming a water landing would hurt less, he did everything he could to make sure he landed directly in it. By the time he realized it wasn't water at all, it was too late. He fell further and further into the abyss, rings of black and white pulsing about him as he struggled to breathe.
  15.
  16. When he finally landed, the sky was black and the land barren. Nighttime in the desert, the rift in the sky closing behind him... Eevee was somewhere, but he couldn't be sure where. He decided he would walk around and get his bearings, and maybe record a landmark or two on his Wonder Map. He'd start, he assumed, with the three great mountains that stood alone in the distance. What kind of Pokemon lived there?
  17.
  18. On his way, Eevee found his first sign of how terrifying this strange new place could be. He'd known death in the dark future he was born in, but the dead always simply disappeared. They were taken, executed, and disposed of by the likes of Dusknoir, and nobody ever saw them again. Here, though, a small skeleton gave proof that someone had died. If he had to guess, the Pokemon assumed the traveler had starved to death, or maybe died of thirst. There was some camping equipment here that would be useful, if he could get it into his Treasure Bag. He also noticed two very strange items. The skeleton was wearing one - a zipper-fastened outfit. Probably skintight, and apparently in just his size. The second was a small, shiny bauble of some sort. Whatever it was, it had a tiny piece of tape wrapped around it with writing in large letters. He couldn't understand a word of it, but this thing had to be important.
  19.
  20. "Who were you?" he muttered to the corpse as he shoved the new gear into his Treasure Bag. "And what did you want this shiny bit for?" Whatever didn't fit, he strapped onto his back with some small difficulty. As he continued out into the sands, he found a small well and managed to pull up a bit to drink. The water was warm and probably not all that clean, but it was good enough to drink. When he'd had his fill, he found a little nook in an old ruined building to shelter from the wind and sand in and set up camp there. Erecting the tent and getting the fire going was easy enough, but using Dig to burrow just under the ground to keep the wind further off? Genius, if he said so himself. His fluffy fur could only keep him warm for but so long. With his needs taken care of, he snuggled into sleep.
  21.
  22. The next morning, Eevee saw a pair of large eyes staring down at him. Whatever this was, it seemed to be waiting for his answer to something.
  23.
  24. "H-hi?" he gulped, waving at the huge thing. It was a strange-looking Pokemon. Probably Dark-Type judging by the mostly-black coloration. Green patches on its face gave it a little color, and its red beard and eyebrows might mean it was Dark/Fire.
  25.
  26. It began yelling something that was obviously a language, but not one he understood. Eevee couldn't understand a word of it, but it sounded like a question. "I'm sorry, could you please repeat that? I don't know what you're asking."
  27.
  28. The giant Pokemon groaned, evidently fed up with the whole thing, and left.
  29.
  30. That had been strange. On the one hand, that huge Pokemon was obviously looking for something. On the other hand, it seemed kind of bored when it left. For a moment, it had been really scary - maybe it was a Legendary? That might explain why he couldn't understand a word of what it said - it was speaking some ancient language he didn't know!
  31.
  32. "Or maybe," he mused, horrified at the implication. "That wasn't a Pokemon at all."

  34. The next decade was a simple, if eerie affair. This world was a lot like the dark future created by Primal Dialga, he realized. In time, he also came to know just how lucky he'd been. That giant thing that visited him in the desert that one morning was actually the ruler of this grim world, and could probably have re-erased him from existence. He just happened to be beneath notice at the time. Even so, he learned there were sports of hope, too. A few times, someone took notice of Eevee and gave him a little something to eat. He asked around about the shiny bauble, but few knew what it was supposed to be. It even got stolen a few times, but he always managed to find it again somehow. Someday he'd find someone who knew what this thing was for.
  35.
  36. By the very end of it, he'd heard many cheers in the brighter places for something called 'Jack.' Eevee couldn't say he knew what that was, but they all seemed to like it. It definitely couldn't have been that human whose face was on all of the illegible wanted posters. Or, were those wanted posters?
  37.
  38. If he only knew the truth of it all when he tripped and fell into another rippling pond. This one, though, wasn't the same colors. It was all blue, and it was glowing. Who knew where this one would take him?
